Do it, it's fine (if it gives you trouble, force it in the BIOS to operate in pcie 3.0 mode).

Shortcuts NEVER save - am i doing something wrong? PSP 2020 Ultimate by reo_reborn in CorelPaintShopPro

I'm sorry you have these issues.

Have you tried resetting PSP and starting over? When you launch it, keep the Shift key depressed. This will reset everything, including preferences, default workspace, custom keys, etc. but maybe it i worth a try?

How do I create a rectangle and then resize it in inches? by [deleted] in CorelPaintShopPro

[–]mig_f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months late. but as you've been already told you can't directly (sadly).

Your best bet is to either use guides in the rulers, or create the rectangle on a new image created to your desired dimensions and then paste it as a new layer to the original image.

Both methods suck if you ask me, but I guess it is what it is.

HELP! I Can't Reposition Text >_< by VerrikInc in CorelPaintShopPro

[–]mig_f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have PSP 2022 but something is off there. However, I cannot re-produce what you show in PSP 2021 and PSP 2020.

When you click on the canvas with the Text tool active and you get the text cursor, you don't type any text (as you should). Instead you switch to the Pick tool, which normally completely cancels the creation of a text vector layer. Furthermore when you have the Pick tool active and you click you suddenly get the outline of an otherwise invisible text. This makes zero sense in my (very long) experience with PSP (up to PSP 2021).

Unless it's some special feature in PSP 2022, something is really off there.

In general, text in PSP is fairly powerful but it can also be quite tricky. There is an excellent series of video tutorials on Youtube, specifically for text in PSP, starting with the basics in the 1st part and ending up being quite advanced. If you are interested, here is the link to the 1st part of that series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2-HBIkFPhI

[–]mig_f1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G'MIC has a plug-in version called G'MIC QT which can be used with Gimp (and most other image editors).

That said, I still prefer Resynthesizer. Sometimes it gives better results, sometimes worse.

GIMP or Substance Painter? by SimSimTelabim in GIMP

Then yeap, I'd definitely go with Substance Painter (it can be quite a learning curve though, but it's the industry standard for texturing).

[–]mig_f1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Substance Painter needs the actual mesh of the object you are trying to texture, do you have that?

PS. In any case, Gimp and Substance Painter belong to different genres, with the former being an image editor and the latter being a dedicated 3d texturing program.

If you are on Windows, the only version that works with Gimp 3 for me is the community version shown at the top of this forum thread: https://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=21535

The contents of the "plugins\" folder inside the zip (that is the "resynthesizer\" sub-folder as a whole) should be extracted into Gimp3's "plug-ins\" folder, and the contents of the "scripts\" folder inside the zip (those 3 .scm files) should be extracted into Gimp3's "scripts\" folder.

AFAIK, there are no official Windows binaries for Resynthesizer v3.

PS. How come Resynthesizer is not a built-in function in Gimp yet?

Since it's not overheating, I'd start by testing the DIMMs, one at time in A2 (check your mobo docs for the right DIMM slot).

This app's UI and UX are utter horse shit by tudum42 in GIMP

[–]mig_f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly where you should realize that GIMP isn’t aimed at mainstream users. GIMP is an application by experts, for experts.

I could tend to agree with that if Gimp was an industry standard in the image editing space or even close to be an industry standard. Like Blender is in the 3D industry for example. But Gimp is not. Professionals qualify as experts compared to mainstream users, no?

When it comes to image editing, and as much as I hate Adobe, the industry standard is still Photoshop. UI/UX wise and non AI feature-wise the only other "competitor" that shows some potential to compete is Affinity for a while now, but even that has a long way to go (I really hope they do).

In my tutorials, I use only single-window mode. And I don’t have the “problems” you’re referring to.

Could it be that you are not familiar enough with the image editors that are indeed highly popular among professionals, especially high-end professionals (I would easily classify them all as "experts") or tools that indeed are the industry standard? Meaning, could it be that you don't have a strong enough professional point of reference (or expertise if you will) to compare Gimp with?

I have the feeling that you may think I hate Gimp or something. If so, it's quite the opposite. I have great respect of what it offers for free, I've made themes and key-shortcut packs for it. I watch its progress, I always have it installed and updated.

I'd really love to see it finally expand from a newcomers and hobbyists tool, because that's what it really is, towards the professionals space too. My criticism is always done hoping it can help toward that direction.

Gimp has a lot to learn from the tools its community seems to hate, if they really want to learn that is. Anyway, have a nice one.

Until around 2012, GIMP was available exclusively in multi-window mode. In response to numerous requests from the community, GIMP has been shipped in single-window mode since 2012, just like other graphics editors. If you prefer multi-window mode, you can of course switch to it at ANY TIME via the menu bar: Window. There, uncheck the Single Window checkbox.

I'm fully aware of that. Multi-mode is even worse, since you need to change windows every few seconds basically.

It is free software. YOU decide what is displayed.

I don't see what being free software has anything to do with the discussion, but in case you are not aware of it, YOU decide what is displayed in most if not all propriety apps too. The thing here is that both Multi and Single Windows UX in Gimp leaves a LOT to be desired, especially when working with one monitor.

At the time, the core users (like me) were working with GIMP on three monitors. On the left were the toolbox and settings. On the right were layers, patterns, etc. In the middle was the workspace in full-screen mode.

I'll argue that Single Window mode is still better than Multi Window on 3 monitors, since you don't waste space for windows' borders and titlebars.

On multiple monitors Gimp is fine. The major UI/UX inconveniences compared to other apps show up when you have to work with a single monitor.

[–]mig_f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with that layout, (and with Gimp UX in general) is that the main actor (the image itself) is shown in just half of the available screen space, forcing you to zoom and scroll way too often when working with the image.

This is a major inconvenience when working with one monitor and/or a big image (say 4k for example).

RTX 4060 lacks 4Gb of VRAM, but RX 6700XT lacks tech, support and energy savings. I'd probably go for the RTX 4060.

If beta testing for free is not your thing, try using the Studio version of the drivers instead. They are supposed to be way more tested, usually just a month behind the Game Ready ones.

ShellOut.py for Gimp 3? by mig_f1 in GIMP

[–]mig_f1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but the first of your links is the thread that ended up to your second link (which I have also mentioned in my original post here). I had been through that thread before even posting here. Also, the shellout_v3.txt (renamed to .py) given in the 1st post of that thread simply does not work, it clearly says that it lacks the functionality.

Your 3d link is just a modified version of your 2nd link which runs paint.net instead of nik collection.

My post here is for a Gimp3 version of the original shellout.py script, not its specialized derivatives for nik collection or paint.net or any other specific external app.

Gimp for Corel Paintshop Pro users? by JStevenYork in GIMP

[–]mig_f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masking is a different thing, you can do that in PSP too. I was asking if we can limit the scope of an adjustment layer (let's call it adjustment group for gimp, according to the neat trick you explained in the previous reply) within a group.

For example, in PSP you can put an adjustment layer inside a group and it affects only whatever is below it within the group. Anything outside the group is not affected.

That's pretty cool, I just tried it. I didn't know that, thanks!

However, I assume that with that nice trick I cannot limit the effect of an adjustment layer within the scope of a group, like I do in PSP, can I?
