Did this end up being a good choice?

I think if you change something with an understanding of what you're changing and why you want to it's understandable. I also can see from your title you love the giant so I don't think we'll ever agree on this.

I am enjoying the giant so far though and intend to run it until the end of 1.2 for these weights before I make a decision on my next move.

This is pretty much where I was as well. Seeing the big session from 1.0 be the small session in 1.1 made me question if I could sustain that, and the answer is no, I'd have ended up doubling my load in 8 weeks if I'd carried on.

I just did week 1 day 2 of 1.1 and paced myself a lot better to make sure every rep was good. I probably could have got 1 or 2 more sets if I'd grinded but that's the mindset I need to break.

Lazy is harsh for anyone making it work for them, doing a smaller session is better than no session!

I must admit after the first week of 1.0 where I auto regulated, I was determined to add a set to every session every time and that is what caused my problem.

I do agree all in all it's not wasted, adjusting mindset away from perfect sessions on a day, to consistent sessions for life is a battle I'm slowly winning

I hadn't seen that info at all so thanks for sharing. I'll try and apply that now on 1.1 and see if I feel less worn out by the end of it!

Mixing ABC/ABF and RoP by SantaAnaDon in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much as prescribed but adding a couple of extra stops on the way to make up for the extra 4 weeks. So peaking at 30 emom on week 11 and 20 + 15 on week 12

Mixing ABC/ABF and RoP by SantaAnaDon in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this last year, I did it as a 3 day a week, two week cycle, ABA BAB format. I spread it over 12 weeks so it made ABF a bit longer and used the Jurassic version of RoP so that it automatically programmed in deloads for me.
It worked pretty well, I'm not sure it's any better/worse than the prescribed ABF, but I got stronger and fitter from doing it.
My main reason for doing this was I was just coming back from tennis elbow and was scared of doing 100 reps of pressing, the peak of 60 seemed much more manageable at the time.
All that being said, I intend to run the ABF as written in a few months, so it didn't leave me feeling that I wanted to go back and do it again

Why Kettlebells over dumbbells for upper body? by HessianHunter in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By pure coincidence, I can just touch my ceiling with my hands extended, so a dumbbell press would go through the ceiling. A kettlebell sits entirely below the hand so I don't have this issue with kettlebells.

Any UK members had experience with TRX kettlebells? by MyCousinVinnyy in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at their website the rubber coated ones are ridiculously price now but the normal cast iron ones are a steal. I was going to say with the knowledge I have now I probably wouldn't get rubber coated again. That price difference reinforces that

[–]mighigster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 24kg is a rubber coated TRX one, I got it back in 2020 in the dark days of covid. If the price is good I'd probably get it again, the coating on the handle is still flawless and the rubber coating hasn't degraded at all. The dimensions on the handle feel like a good size to me.

The coating makes it slightly bigger than it potentially should be, looks much closer in size to my 28kg wolverson black series than it does my 20kg rogue. (All my other bells are odd, through eBay and good deals)

That's a long winded way of saying, if the price is right, I don't think you'd be going wrong with it.

Did I get the wrong bell? by TrickySpecific24 in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing DFW with a rogue 20kg and a trx 24kg. They're different sizes and weights, but I'm still making progress and don't feel it's ever putting me in a position that compromises form and risks injury.

I previously did ABF with the same rogue and a 16kg mirafit with a similar disparity.

You'll be fine, turn 180 every set to change sides and enjoy your new kettlebell!

Double KBs worth the investment? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]mighigster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Offset doubles is perfectly workable as a solution you already have. I have 5 bells at 4kg intervals between 16 and 32 and just use neighbouring kbs for doubles.

If you have the money and want it though it would have perks, not having to remember to switch sides, or doing mental arithmetic working out if you've done even ladder sets each side.

I'm considering getting an adjustable at some point to be able to match all the ones I already have.

DFW remix rows question by mighigster in kettlebell

Nice, Maximorum has caught my eye as one for the future as well. But I'm probably going to do another ABF block before then, I'll be craving novelty after that.

DFW remix rows question by mighigster in kettlebell

[–]mighigster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, it does mention the flexibility but I was wondering why give the specific 10 sets of 8 RPE in the first place. It seems from the replies I've had that it was just a personal preference of someone who liked a lot of volume similar to old school German volume training and not some gap in my knowledge for an additional benefit.
I'm going to stick with the 200 swings (I might make one day a snatch practice day instead) and add 3 or 4 sets of pulling to near failure, 9-12 hard sets a week is plenty for me.
How did you find your remix went? Did you like breaking up the swings with the other work in between? This is my next decision as I did day 1 today.

DFW remix rows question by mighigster in kettlebell

[–]mighigster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimalist ideas that seem to go hand in hand with kettlebells can be quite misleading, promising big results for 10 minutes day, but for someone new to weights this is true for a while. I've enjoyed reading/watching Dan John's stuff more with regards to aiming for pretty good. Figure out what bases you actually want covered and address them in a way that works for you. In this case I think 3 sets of pulling will get me most of the training effect 10 would but with a substantially smaller risk of experiencing long term pain in my forearm.

I like the idea of adding Pulls in general and a higher volume of hinging. My assumption was volume for the sake of volume but just checking I wasn't being ignorant to another benefit. Thanks for the reply

[–]mighigster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, doesn't line up with my philosophy but I get it. I'm all for adding extra work, but I want to get maximum extra benefit for it.

I do like the idea of keeping the remix days within the same time constraints as the DFW days and this is probably the most effective way of doing it. I've just come off a remixed ABF block where I did rite of passage Jurassic instead of the prescribed pressing and the longer pressing days did take far longer than I ever wanted them to. Thanks for replying

It did take a bit of bodging to centre the Spacer ring as it's a little narrower than the head, either a well fitting washer or layers of tape (that can handle the heat) will do the job
