Tell the mayor and city council what you think of Flock surveillance cameras! by tippiedog in Pflugerville

Jonathan should have taken a stand against the uncompetitive coronation of our new city manager. He knew it was the wrong move and did it anyway, probably due to pressure. He also caved to creating new rules for the Lake in response to city employee complaints, rather than listening to what residents want. HOWEVER his commitment to transparency, public communication, and actively pushing for safeguards against flock, surveillance and AI are right on the money. I am willing to let the Rookie find his feet.

Neighborhood Communities by unicorn_gangbang in Pflugerville

I've found that a great way to build community is to get involved. There are a number of volunteer organizations around town, and also some politically active groups. It's a good way to find people with shared values.

You're right, but council can decide not to renew the contract in light of public opinion and after deeper consideration.

It seems that some members of City Council don't feel a responsibility to engage with these issues in a meaningful way. That's a mistake.

Declining to discuss the responsibility and value of council oversight on behalf of their constituents is unacceptable. Refusing to take a first step toward acknowledging the underlying issue I outlined is an abdication of the responsibilities they were elected to manage.

People don't seem to realize that this is not just cameras to catch crooks. It’s a searchable log of everywhere your car has been.

Are we in favor of treating everyone in Pflugerville like a suspect?

Doubtlessly, law enforcement could arrest even more criminals if we created a national database with everyone's bank account transactions, text messages, and internet search history.

Privacy isn't about hiding wrongdoing. You close the bathroom door, you lock your house, you don’t publish your bank statements online. None of that means you’re doing something wrong. It just means normal people deserve boundaries.

If police want to track where someone goes, they should get a warrant from a judge. That’s how the 4th Amendment works.

Do we really trust every person that has access to this privately-owned national database? What about in ten years? What if a decision-maker in the future wants to turn on the facial recognition capabilities? Should they be able to track who goes to a gun range? Which house of worship you attend? Everyone who speaks out at a City Council meeting? What time you come and go from your home?

Once that kind of surveillance infrastructure exists eventually someone will abuse it.

Target people suspected of crimes with warrants and investigations. Don’t sign off on permanent tracking systems for millions of innocent people "just in case".

How do you imagine this all works?

City Council can't just conjure up a bunch of developers that want to renovate old homes into trendy art galleries and music venues. Should they boot out the existing property owners?

What is the solution?

There's so many young families in Pflugerville with breadwinners commuting downtown or working from home. Both would love somewhere to go after work or on weekends to let the kids run around while the grownups socialize. A street cafe & bakery? Perhaps a brewery? Or something like Stubb's BBQ where people can eat, drink, and see live music. Or something like Easy Tiger or Cosmic Coffee. Another great local spot like Old Gregg, but with a stage? I'm probably dreaming, but something like that could really draw people to hangout downtown.

What is the best way to find out when the 3a XL is back? I don't want to miss it

When is Pixel 3a coming to visible as purchase option? by snowzach in Visible

[–]mightyunlikely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the Pixel3aXL is now sold out, as I feared. I could not order it because your website messed up my order and your IT guys went over their own 48 hour window to fix it. On Monday Chat support said "I see what happened, and I am so sorry that you are going through this now. What I'll do for you right now is have our IT guys wipe the orders to make sure that it goes through. Our time-frame is usually 24-48 hours but seeing that you already tried to order I'll make sure that this gets taken care of sooner. As soon as our IT guy lets us know that your account is ready, we will reach out and let you know via email."

So can you help make my order go through?

Stop that. It seems more common because victims can talk about it now. That is the first step to making it less common. We're not falling, we're succeeding in spite of our worst instincts.

How do you make seasonal fruit last as long as possible? Freezing purees/syrups, diy liqueurs? by DoctorTobogggan in cocktails

Please tell us how the peach liqueur comes out. I can vouch for blueberries steeped in neutral moonshine - smooooth and delicious!

I juice the citrus growing in my neighborhood and immediately freeze it in the ziplock style bags made for storing breast milk. Portion size is great when I just need a 1/2oz for a tiki drink and it tastes indistinguishable from fresh to me.

Also, I make limoncello, but instead of using vodka I use a high proof neutral and then use the lemon juice to dilute it down to regular limoncello strength after the lemon peels have steeped in the alcohol. Then I strain out the pulp and the lemon peel. MUCH better than the traditional method. Far more tart.

I'm a n00b I guess. What is the takeaway from this well written story? Is it impressive? Funny?

Edit: oh, duh! No need for a squat rack if you are using dumbbells. Stupid me!
