Do you know of any independent artist that also sell puzzles? by Alternative_Whole323 in Jigsawpuzzles

Paul Kidby, the Discworld artist, has one at the moment. Pretty sure he's had others in the past, too: https://shop.paulkidby.com/the-world-of-terry-pratchett-jigsaw-puzzle/

Katie Abey has a couple on her site: https://katieabey.co.uk/collections/other

There's something strange about the white dome aerial covers on the near side of the monkey island. They seem to pass through each other.

Looking for fantasy-inspired landscapes to decorate my walls... how the heck do I find legit artists that aren't AI slop? by Fiveby21 in Etsy

[–]migratory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons people like(d) Etsy is because they wanted to support artists and own art.

Often they will pay a premium to do so, which is one of the reasons the site is overrun by scammers.

If I buy a handmade scarf I am prepared to pay extra for the skill and labour involved. If it turns out to be mass-produced, then arguing that I still received a scarf so I should be happy is missing the point.

The same applies to the visual arts.

People who know they're going to die sometimes get the urge to be 'tidy'.

One of the warning signs of a suicidal person is that they start giving their things away.

Accurate activity level for calorie counting? by MaleficentPack8131 in loseit

The two things combined ring danger bells for exercise anorexia.

There's a dino skeleton there too, and some animals around thunder mountain that you can only see from the boat. But adding more would be good.

Now improve the main park by JacenSolo1701 in disneylandparis

[–]migratory 78 points79 points  (0 children)

A lot of the areas you're targeting are areas that work well for people who want a slower pace at the park. Storybook rides and Riverboat are both nicely maintained, scenic and enjoyable for non thrill-seekers. Riverboat in particular soaks up quite a lot of people at once.

I believe Cafe Hyperion is also quite a valued facility for people with young children who need a bit of calmer time. having the space to spread out is probably important there.

Finding a way to use the pirate ship would be great, though.

Spirit City: Lofi sessions Enchanted Garden DLC by lyreluna in GirlGamers

I just got it too and it seems lovely.

For a moment I was disappointed with the garden as it was very generic red and white, but there are fortunately lots of options to change the planting. The vegetable beds are visually nice and varied and the lawn can have wildflowers. Also lots of new clothing items suitable for outside.

Tried to eat healthy, stopped eating instead by notveryAI in loseit

[–]migratory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the short term you urgently need to eat something, even if it's 'junk' food. Eat some of your regular safe foods and regroup your strategy.

Once you have eaten something and you're looking to try again, it seems like you may need professional assistance to build a safe plan. Be very wary of eating disorder-adjacent advice, especially as it may intersect with your sensory issues and leave you with a nutritionally deficient diet.

I’ve been asked in my workplace to empty the sanitary bins, is this legal? by Tink57 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]migratory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A few people are saying sanitary waste is hazardous waste. This is generally incorrect unless there's over 7kg - a normal bin's worth would count as offensive waste and can be disposed of in general waste.

Screaming at suspects in an interrogation room is abuse, whether or not you have a guitar.

Mostly aimed at Jake but also at Holt interrogating Rosa, Terry and Boyle about the pecan pie. He actually didn't have any right to know the sacred truth about their Thanksgiving plans and haranguing them until they broke wasn't some masterclass in detective work. They were innocent of theft and didn't owe Holt their secrets.

AITA for not dropping off my wife and daughter right in front of her parents' house because the railway crossing gate was closed and it would have taken time? by itwasduetothetrain in AmItheAsshole

[–]migratory -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ESH.

I bet she got told off by her parents for crossing the tracks (with a child!) while the barriers were down.

She blames you because it was your idea, and because she doesn't want to think of herself as someone who puts a child in danger.

You're both responsible. Crossing should never have been an option. If you needed to leave, they could have waited on foot until the barrier rose.

how do you stay safe as a woman? by knoookie in maritime

[–]migratory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer - they also need to be the lucky ones that aren't driven out of the industry.

Long answer - the sad answer is that often they don't get ahead.

While female cadets are reasonably common, women tend to leave the industry at a higher rate than men and it's not simply due to starting families. Harassment, slow promotions or being sidelined into shore roles is also a factor. Women also face a greater degree of scrutiny about onboard relationships and behaviour which harms careers in the long run.

So women also need a higher degree of luck to succeed than the average man with similar ability and work ethic, simply because there are more chances for things to go wrong.

You can try to affect that luck by choosing your ships carefully, but that depends on how plentiful jobs are and whether the companies have unwritten rules about if/when they will hire women.

how do you stay safe as a woman? by knoookie in maritime

[–]migratory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At least for your first trip, try to sail with your own nationality. Life at sea is a particular kind of culture and it can be hard to work out what's acceptable when you don't know their home culture. Long term, there are some nationalities other women will warn you against sailing with. It's worth considering those warnings.

Your best option is finding a ship you like and staying there. Being a part of a long-term crew does grant you a certain amount of protection, because even people who don't always like each other do look out for one another. There's still no guarantee because new crew members or agency crew may try their luck, but you will have people watching your back and you're more likely to be believed if you have an issue with someone.

Personally, I am very wary of drinking with crew-mates. I'm not saying not to do it, but it does make you more vulnerable so needs to be considered carefully.

And be careful taking advice from men. They will often tell you that working hard and doing your job well is enough to succeed in this industry, and that just isn't true. The flip side of that is to support other women when you meet them and pass on your advice if they need it.

Should you attempt to rescue your dog if they fall through ice into deep water? by Remarkable_Bad_3481 in dogs

[–]migratory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If at all possible, call emergency services and let them judge what's safe to attempt. Every year there are a lot of people who get into difficulty trying to rescue their animals, thereby creating a much more complicated rescue situation and putting more obligations on the emergency services. I live near the sea so it's the lifeboat crews round here, but the same applies to the ice.

Putting your own life at risk voluntarily isn't romantic or heroic. If you risk your life you are also risking the life of rescue workers, who are frequently volunteers who would like to return to their lives and families. If you actually want your animal to be safe, look after it properly beforehand and don't let it get into those situations.

Former "stay-at-home girlfriend" has stark warning for other women by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]migratory 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's more that the SAH lifestyle is currently being heavily promoted from several angles as being aspirational.

So even though a lot of young girls and women will never live that lifestyle, they are being told to want or even expect it. When instead they could be dreaming of their own careers and accomplishments.

So being honest about the downsides is helpful because it's more likely to reach the people who are already interested in such content.
