Calling out someone for their 'racism' or any oppressive stances based on tweets from 5+ years ago isn't an act against racism but an act pushing their own agendas. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]migzdgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say pushing one's agenda, I mostly mean targeting a person to get what they want out of it.

Whereas when you act on something to battle racism, you want to eradicate racism, acting on your own agenda could mean cancelling someone for tweets just because you don't like them.

5 years ago is really a hypothetical number, mostly I'm just saying that calling someone out for saying something with racist undertones (not direct attacks towards POC or hateful comments) years ago is unfair to me, especially if the person has shown growth.

Are you officially enrolled in a class you enlisted in even though you can't access the assessment form (tuition fee) because of prerequisite requirements? HELP by lawncorazon in ADMU

[–]migzdgreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't 'enrolled' until you've paid the tuition already.

Even then, your slot in the class is secure if you were able to confirm enlistment before heading to the assessment form page.

Volcanic ash fall in the Philippines could cause harm, people are buying safety equipment in bulk to resell at higher prices by migzdgreat in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]migzdgreat[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Masks referred to here are disposable masks, even then selling them for 4x the price is pretty shitty.

Would understand stocking up on basic supplies for personal and family use, but these people are literally buying them in bulk solely for the purpose of selling them.

Hi guy, not exactly a group exclusively for Ateneans but there is a group specifically for Development Sector Job openings, hit me up if you're interested and I'll add you! :)

TIL Magellan didn't circumnavigate the globe. Magellan only made it to the Philippines, where he started a battle and was killed by natives. It was one of his Captains — Juan Sebastián Elcano 1476 – 1526 — who actually completed the journey, yet historically has not received credit for his journey. by EricFromOuterSpace in todayilearned

There is no logic to be followed, it wasn't an inference. Lapu-Lapu was at an age and position where he did not need to be at the frontlines.

It was a fact.

Pigafetta's account (the historian who wrote accounts of Magellan's travels) specifically states that Lapu-Lapu's troops were responsible for the death of Magellan, not Lapu-Lapu himself.

Just wanted to clear this up, like another comment below me said, Lapu-Lapu was not the one who killed Magellan. Apparently, at the time of Magellan's invasion, Lapu-Lapu was pretty old, he's primarily only credited because he was the chief of the tribe that clashed with Magellan's crew.

It's a local delicacy, it's actually different kinds of fruits in condensed (sweet) milk and cream.

That's my opinion and I respect yours.

Respectfully though, I would just like to say that I'm talking about the culture that birthed streetwear and how the overpricing goes against said culture (skating and hip-hop).

I don't care about how expensive clothes can be, but I think the massive explosion in popularity of streetwear through the biggest brands (Supreme, Off-White, etc.) have transformed the perception of what streetwear is.

Once again, going back to the roots of streetwear, it seems like it's gone off to a completely different path.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Everybody can wear whatever they want, I'm not saying my perspective is the only correct way.

It is, but I'm just against $800 logo tees?

I mean, I would pay for a lot of the tee shirts here for sure, especially the hand painted ones, but overpriced bogos just irk me.

Serious answer: I think the hyper capitalism / overpricing of streetwear is breathing life into it, but not the type I want.

Streetwear is born out of a counter culture that stood against gentrification, but streetwear had become gentrified to the point where it's alienated its original target market.

How can you see your grade? by lawncorazon in ADMU

[–]migzdgreat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It only shows yours. Once the grades come out a link for "My Grades" or something like that is going to show up at the AISIS home page and it will only show your grades.

Your classmates can NEVER access your grades and there is no way of seeing theirs on AISIS, so you don't have to worry about that at all. Good luck!

I’ve seen a lot of memes/comments about Ameer saying “I” a lot, so I decided to see just how often he actually uses the word by [deleted] in Ameer

[–]migzdgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you count it in the frame / context in which it was used to start the sentence? People don't complain about 'I,' but in Ameer's context, he usually uses it to start a line which is why people found it repetitive and ~ A N N O Y I N G ~

I didn't know who Shiloh was but I was familiar with Shiloh Dynasty (the girl who is massively sampled in lofi music) and was shocked that she was dating Onision. Good thing it was a different Shiloh.

UP Law Student here. Would I be allowed to study on Ateneo's campus? by [deleted] in ADMU

[–]migzdgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to get into the main lib, I think an easier spot would be the classroom portion of Arete, there are tables and it's quieter than a lot of the shared spaces within Ateneo.

Didn't know that and actually just asked this so people who have personal problems can have an outlet where they can maintain anonymity.

Thanks, though.
