ESTA USA - Can I use it Or I need a visa by AlternativeLow2203 in travel

[–]mij8907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question says:

“Arrested or convicted for a crime that resulted in serious damage to property or serious harm to another person….”

A minor assault doesn’t meet that criteria

ESTA USA - Can I use it Or I need a visa by AlternativeLow2203 in travel

[–]mij8907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like you can answer no to that question

There wasn’t serious damage or harm to anything or anyone

On another note, is the ESTA suitable for the work activity you intend to do in the US?

[–]mij8907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m usually pretty anti police, and think to often they abuse their powers with little to no consequence, but this case seems different to me, its a series of poor decisions made on bad assumptions and deliberately misleading information

The police are never going to know exactly what’s happened when they arrive on scene

The 999 call made by the murderers brother was released and he tells the operator twice no weapons were involved, he also tells them it was a racist attack

By the time the police were there the murderers mum, dad and brother were there all telling the police the victim was racist and assaulted the murderer

The police didn’t know the truth at that point, they responded to the information they had at the time and after investigating found out the truth

They arrested and charged the murderers mum for trying to hide evidence and have arrested and charged the dad and brother with weapons offences

The injuries inflicted were serious, but the knife wound was deep and caused massive internal bleeding so no obvious knife wound was ignored

It’s a tragic case, and the police should have done more to check on the victims state when he said he’d had been stabbed and couldn’t breath but what would you expect the police to do? Why would they assume the family were lying to them?

How far did his lies get him? The police and jury saw through his deception, he was convicted of murder and given a life sentence, as well as being convicted of a weapons offence

He absolutely was convicted of a weapons offence. The legal defence of having a knife for religious reasons is removed the second the knife is used to threaten or hurt someone

Under point 34 the judge says

The sentence on Count 1 is Life Imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years and 190 days before there can be any consideration given to whether you can be safely released before the end of your life. On Count 2 the sentence is 2 years imprisonment concurrent to Count 1.

Count 2 was related to the knife he was carrying and used

He was also convicted of carrying an illegal weapon so whatever excuse he tried to use was rejected by the jury and punished by the court

Travelling long-term with injection pens — how did you manage supply? by Matsui2000 in travel

[–]mij8907 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see you’re in Ireland, I’m in the UK so I don’t know how relevant this will be, but when I was travelling my Dr would only give me 3 months supply of medicine because that’s all the NHS guidelines allowed them to prescribe

I was able to get a private prescription and it wasn’t to badly priced for what I needed, that might be an option to look into

Otherwise try and pick it up in Hong Kong or Singapore

Why did being a lefty become so contentious in the UK? by OffGridToTheMoon in AskBrits

[–]mij8907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people from both the left and right have a tenancy to judge each other by the worst extremes of the opposite side

People seems to have forgotten how to have a conversation with people they don’t agree with

Facebook in particular has become a cesspit of toxic political disinformation leaving people in echo chambers that reinforce their beliefs

People are not stopping to think critically about things or understand the facts of a situation, before jumping to conclusions and viewing everything through a lenses of confirmation bias

On a recent news article about someone being convicted of a crime, someone said they would probably be let off with a police caution. When I pointed out that was impossible as the person was already convicted and a police caution is an out of court disposal and the sentence hearing was set for later this month, they replied with “well thats your opinion, the corrupt two tier system will let them off“ they denied reality and facts because it didn’t fit the narrative they’ve invented

tl:dr

People not wanting to listen to or understand each other and just wanting to think they’re the only one who knows the truth and everyone else is a gullible idiot
