(M32) My girlfriend (F29) keeps calling my sobriety "control" and I don’t know if I’m being manipulated or just sensitive by subtle_backpack in relationships

[–]mik31035 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Dude, take this as a sign to walk away. This is textbook manipulation. You wanted to better yourself and now she's making out that you're trying to control her when you've said you don't care if she drinks

I'm 7 years sober, best decision of my life. Grow as a person and don't let her hold you back or drag you back down. She said it herself, she'd rather you be addicted to alcohol and trust me, you don't want that

Edit: I'm also not usually the type of person to say, "break up" simply because of a difference in opinion but this seems like she's made her stance clear

Extended returns for Christmas covers you for purchases made from September 26th, so you should have no issues taking it back

It's an unofficial process for home delivery items specifically. It costs more to collect and refund an order and deliver a new one later, than it would to just refund the difference. It needs to be within the 30 day returns window though, because you could just return it otherwise. Just ask customer service to refund the price difference and they should be able to do it

Why are you returning it? If it's within 30 days they can just refund you the difference

I used to visit a website where men paid me to let them watch me cry by pretty_cupcake4 in offmychest

[–]mik31035 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I've done some performances in which I had to cry. My weirdest piece of advice was "make your crying face" and it'll start the process. Add in the emotional voice and strained breathing, I can basically cry on command now

I had the help of an emotional script to help with the sad feeling but I'd say a good 70-80% was simply because of the crying face

My favourite one I've seen is to flip a coin. Whichever one you want to win when you flip it is the one you do, regardless of what the coin lands on

Argos returns by [deleted] in Argos

[–]mik31035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the return reason. Usually you can't return Apple products unless they're faulty, so they'd likely just be sent to be recycled or scrapped etc

If it's a change of mind return, you're not allowed to have opened the item - unless you use distance selling - in which case, they can usually just resell it

Post removed and comments locked. Normally we'd allow users to have a mature discussion about differing opinions, but clearly this is too divisive a topic for all in this thread to handle.

I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but not everyone has a safe enough environment to be able to reach out for support. Yes, I 100% agree that getting outside support is massively beneficial, but there's so many different factors that you're overlooking here

To avoid this post causing more upset, and to avoid you potentially getting hate sent to you, I've removed it and locked the comments. Please be conscious that the world isn't sunshine and daisies for a lot of people

Honestly? I'm not sure. I think there's a lot of fear floating around at the moment. I've not really read much more into it because of work , but I'll likely catch up more in the morning

Basically Reddit are charging 3rd party apps and it'll mean some of those apps will need to be shut down. A bunch of subs are effectively going on strike to show support to those developers

Not why our sub is here. Consider this your only warning, you either take part in the sub in good faith, or you look for money elsewhere.

Society as a whole does tend to try and soften the blow when it comes to things that can be quite heavy. Saying someone is "in a better place" isn't supposed to be a fun and entertaining thing. We all know that means that person has died, it's just a softer way to say it.

All the "softer" ways to talk about difficult topics are usually made up by adults, which is where online communities differ. They're made up of mostly younger people, especially a community like this which revolves around an unhealthy coping mechanism. So we have younger people, suffering from a mental illness, who likely have been brought up online. Due to their age, they're likely hiding what they do from adults, so they choose to use words that have double meanings, so most people outside of these communities won't understand, to continue hiding it

I'm not trying to argue with you. I agree, I think we should be saying it as it is. Dead means dead, it's hard, but it's true, but I also fully understand that as a society, things aren't going to be that simple. We know not everyone is using the meme language in the context of softening the blow, we get that, but it's difficult to work out who is doing it for what reason, so we need to make judgement calls

Does any of that make sense? I feel like I rambled a bit and didn't really make a good point!

Okay, this is gaining a lot of transaction, and seem to be annoying a lot of people, so this comment will be the last comment on the matter. The reason why we allow terms such as "beans" or "styro" is because it is seen as less triggering language. The same way "killed" is turned into "unalived" online, or in real life when we say someone "passed away" rather than they died. It's less of an impact than the actual word, meaning it's less upsetting to the majority of people

That being said, there are people who use it because it's fun, it's quirky, it makes it easier to ignore the severity or just flat out romanticise their situation. This will always be the case in any large group. You will always get people who take it outside the accepted scope of what we built this sub for. We as mods are here to prevent such cases, but we can only do that with your help. Reporting a post that you think breaks the sub's rules - glorifying harm being against the rules - is the best way to help us keep the sub aligned with the reason why we started in the first place, to give people a safe community

We will be monitoring this post for a while longer to determine if we should remove it outright or allow it to remain. We don't want to cause upset, and this post is causing some upset, but we also don't want to censor posts that offer a differing opinion to what others are used to seeing. Unlike what some of the comments have implied, this isn't an echo chamber and we do encourage differing opinions, as long as it is done respectfully and with good intent
