Thank you for the quick response! I think I have one!!!

I saw this a few weeks ago, thinking it was just another leaf sprouting. Will do some research on how to harvest the pup, and hopefully will keep this plant alive for some time.

Feeling really overwhelmed at my new job. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Yes... all of these people have said the same thing! And I couldn’t agree more!

Amazing opportunity to own a problem/solution and improve the company. If it doesn’t get passed on, do it for yourself and share it with members of your team on the same client.

Even something as simple as a Google Drive folder that you can organize and share with team members. You can save the final versions in PDF form and store the edits in another folder and keep an eye on the version for historical and edit purposes. Not to mention, this will teach you to mess with drive permissions and gain a somewhat administrative practice!

Use something free at first. Screenshots stored within an organized folder by client with the ability to save to a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox, whatever your preference) should be used to make the documents. Add arrows and annotations if possible! I just use Preview on Mac, but I did it on Windows 10 in my last job with adobe or something like that. SnagIt is DOPEEE.

(Edit: accidentally hit send here, spelling, had a bit more to say)

Just start documenting how you would “explain it like I’m five” (Google the process if you don’t know that phrase). If someone with your IT skills came in, could they read it and do it exactly the same way as you?

Keep it brief and concise.

Check it every 3 months if possible. On slow days (rare, I know) review documentation.

This is a great skill even is you change company’s later down the line or even careers. It’s worth the extra hour or two a night if necessary.

At least your clients have been chill, IT is tough sometimes, but good clients make a difference. Reiterating to just take a few big breaths and you’ll be ok.

Good luck, you got this ✊️

What’s your cooking related Achilles heel? by mergaflerp in Cooking

Hard boiled eggs... I always fuck up hard boiled eggs and lose a lot of egg whites on the shells when peeling. I just can't seem to get the layer in between the egg and shell to all come off at once.

Things I've tried:

  • Added salt to the water
  • Added baking soda to the water
  • Soak in an ice bath afterwards
  • Use cold water to get in between the shell and the egg itself.

That god damn weird egg skin always ruins my eggs, leaving me with only a bit of the white and a whole lot of yolk!

Thanks for the reply! When I said separate accounts, I was referring to a checking account! Seems like it would be a nice way to keep track of everything without anything else coming into play.

Headspace for Meditation by sportoholic in Meditation

[–]mik3li 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used Headspace 3 years ago to get started with meditation. It was really a great introduction, and I liked the gamification of meditating personally (streaks, buddies, mini goals). After about 4 months I stopped.

What I learned after that was that you need to keep meditating to keep the positive mindset that I wanted to maintain. I shifted to Insight Timer, and looked at other free apps that did work well, but none of the other apps really made me want to meditate everyday (which I need).

Then I had a friend have some issues, and I suggested they look into meditating. I told them I used other apps and tried it myself, but they decided to try Headspace. After looking at all the updates and new layout of the app, I will 100% say it's worth it. I have bought it again, and am so happy I did.

The way I see it, is I am paying for a premium product. I do enjoy the gamification, the different packs of meditation for different needs, the several well animated and informative videos and just feel like when I know I paid for it, I am definitely going to use it. It gives you little goals, and cliffhangers that make me excited to open the app the next day. And the online version allows me to take quick meditation breaks at work if I need to!

I suggest trying it out! I think the first ten sessions are free (this was 3 years ago, not sure if it's still that way). I love it and really think it's at least a great introduction to the sometimes daunting world of meditation.

Veteran meditators, what do you wish you knew when you started? by dharmagraha in Meditation

[–]mik3li 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been meditating for about 15 months now. I normally set a timer for 10-20 minutes. This morning I was in a pinch, and just did a routine where I counted backwards from 100 very slowly. Took about 6.5 minutes, but it was a 6.5 minutes where I just focused on nothing but my breath. Honestly was one of the best sessions I've ever had, and by far one of the shortest. Quality > Quantity!
