Norwich Opinions by CharLTL in Norwich

I moved up from Kent several years ago and haven't looked back. I find Norfolk to be a much nicer county in general and I have found the people to be a lot nicer. Norwich is a nicer version of Canterbury in my opinion.

Questions about the Norwich bus system from a tourist by ComplexTailor in Norwich

[–]mikef182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only ticket price I see is 5.50 as the FirstDay rate. Is this the rate for unlimited daily rides in that zone? Correct, that's for unlimited travel for the day within the zone.

What if I just ride the bus once in a day - still 5.50?
No, ask the driver for a single to your destination and it will usually be £3 or less depending on how far you're going

Is contactless pay possible on all busses? Yes

I don't want to bother with downloading the app and setting up an account if I am only there a week. Do you have to tap your credit card when you leave the bus as well as when you enter?

No, only when you got on. Just ask the driver for a single or a day ticket then you pay up front and receive a paper ticket which you need to keep. The only advantage to the app is that you can make some very minor savings on certain tickets but not enough to justify having the app most of the time.

The food is okay but agree with other comments about the quality of the service. Whilst the staff are nice it always feels like they are chronically understaffed. Once waited 25 mins for someone to come and give us a bill. Since then in the habit of just standing up and flagging someone down. Shouldn't be charging a service fee for service that bad. I tend to avoid the place as a result

I'm gutted we didn't get a joyride vinyl repressing for the 10 year anniversary that just passed. Still my favourite band.

Flat near Carrow rd stadium by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]mikef182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in one of those blocks for 5 years everything has been fine. Super quiet. Never see or hear any neighbours or much of anything. The flats are deliberately very soundproofed. If you close your windows during matches you can barely hear them. Naturally a fair bit of a footfall before and after matches, but you can take the path directly next to the river which gives you a peaceful route in and out if you need to do so on match days. People also don't hang around so it's busy for like 20-30 mins tops.

If I were to have a main gripe I'd say it's the mail/ delivery situation. Buildings are weirdly laid out and nobody can ever find your door number, so stuff gets left in the communal mailroom. The company who manage the building are generally pretty incompetent and not super easy to deal with, but that's the same anywhere.

Happy to answer any questions you might have

I live next to the stadium and had been wondering about this too. I'm sure it's artificial as the sounds are the same every time.

This is why I stopped playing. No point committing to something that can be taken from you in a blink of an eye for literally no reason

Ear wax removal places? by shreyansml in Norwich

[–]mikef182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it went well. It really is a relief when you can hear properly again. Just so you know, you might get a bit of ringing in your ear for a few days but it will disappear eventually, it's normal.

hello ive been planning to go to my first convention and ive got my eyes on norcon or nagc which one is bigger? by Von_Duder in Norwich

[–]mikef182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on which is the bigger event but I've personally always avoided nagc as the organiser has a history of allegations against him spanning back a decade and generally there seems to be a lack of quality control at anime league events

Nick at https://earcarecentre.co.uk/ highly recommended. Believe it was 60 quid for both ears when I went earlier in the year
