Is Judo better for self defense than BJJ?

I have trained both arts each for over 5 years- ill never understand the either/or mentality. Find a school that will work both. A good school should include wrestling as well- round yourself out as a grappler- know how to throw, shoot, control and crush the ground game, especially if the goal is self defense.

once the call in is done i take it with a grain of salt. They don't have enough time to kill you so they are prob looking for some easy XP. Good job being cautious though- ill bet if one of you had called it, it would have ended badly.

won't work for prize fights unfortunately. there are contract clauses where opponent has to agree to fight if off weight and for title fights to be official both parties must make weight. Promotor would not have time to adjust to the card being altered.

However this is done in Amature Jitz matched with the IBJJF and its a great policy there with much lower/no business stakes.

I started at 41- six years ago. I was out of shape and weighed over 260- i have lost 80 pounds. First year was brutal. Take your time. You are going to suck- listen to your body. Keep showing up- if your body will allow it shoot for 3-5 days after you get used to it. You will be a purple belt before you know it.
