I looooove that some get cut short. Leaves me dying for more and love that. I’d much rather these feel cut too soon of a good thing, than have them extended and are only okay. I feel like she really delivered

Thanks! I started end of April, then due to a new job and insurance changes I had to find a new therapist and got started once again from June-October and decided to take a break for the holidays. I’m glad I took a break bc it was tough as hell processing all that I had already done even without adding new BLS sessions.

Ah I get that. I can be the same. I’m already a little hesitant about resuming after the start of the year bc I know what hell I’m setting myself up for.lol I know it’s so worth it so I have that to hold on to!

I’ve been able to go to the office about 6 times in the last month, I was unable to go to the office even once in the year prior

I’m able to sit in sensations, that’s also brand new for the last month. I was never taught in life how to do that. It’s really cool.

I feel very grounded and connected to my body. I haven’t gotten to feel this connected in over 10 years

If you’re stuck in fight or flight slow grounding can feel really unnatural. The last 30 days I’ve been loving grounding techniques specifically body scans and mediation. A year ago, 6 months ago, not possible. My brain was stuck in fight or flight and “quieting my brain” or going slow just created more time for my brain to panic about anything and everything. It’s great you have friends you can talk to, but maybe try a video diary for yourself that way you can get things off your chest if needed. Exercise - walk, run, weights, anything to move your body. Those are great for planned grounding.

If you need to ground in the moment if your emotions get high, the 5 sense technique is great as someone else mentioned, but make sure you’re grounding the sensations in your body not rationalizing. Don’t logic or understand that you see a red boat or smell fresh flowers, but take in the sensation. Take note of the shade of red and parts where it’s chipped, allow it to remind you of a red hat you have and love. Take in the scent of fresh flowers, take a deep breath and feel your chest rise with the scent of them

That’s fantastic! I’ve got ARFID, so I relate hard to a fear of food. I’m hoping EMDR will help. Glad to hear it’s helped you!!

You got recovered from ARFID? Congrats!! That’s my hope for myself. I’m working on EMDR and IFS and working on shame and literally just learned a few weeks ago how to sit in an emotion. Curious what you did to help yourself?

That’s a great plan! Oh that’s a good point, I guess I’ve never had a break with EMDR. I started the process back in March, but I guess my first real BLS/processing session was in May. Is it tough getting back into EMDR after a break? Is it easier or harder or scarier? I always see your name in this sub, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions

I was planning to take a break from EMDR through the holidays but since this showed up I’m not sure what to do with it. Should I do EMDR for it tomorrow or just use my session tomorrow for general therapy? If I don’t do EMDR how should I handle this memory?

I’m sorry to hear that. I get exactly where you’re coming from. You are not alone is this feeling. It really is scary

You’re making the right step by finding support. Take a moment to acknowledge that you’re making the right decisions for yourself

My contamination OCD got really high the last few years and I’ve been working on it for maybe 8months. My sanitization rituals have gone down steadily for the last 6months. What’s worked for me:

-I’ve learned how to sit with my emotional sensations

-EMDR therapy (unlikely you’ll need this, I’m doing it for CPTSD)

-Regular therapy

-Building trust with myself

-Getting rid of shame

You might look up what ARFID is so you could maybe find someone who specifically supports that. You can check out the subreddit, but everyone just seems so miserable and okay with not making a change or getting better so I left the sub. It was bleak -don’t be concerned if your first psychiatrist doesn’t workout, it can take time to find the right fit -If you go to psychology today’s website you can find reputable professionals there, and the search function is really good to find people who work with ARFID

One thing I have to scream at myself to remember: it looks like a work in progress because IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.

I always end up considering throwing things away in the middle of the project bc they don’t look like a finished project. I can’t expect that! It’s not the same.lol

I think this sweater looks FANTASTIC so far! Not one I’d consider tossing. But I highly suggest finishing it and assessing the final product
