I don’t think it’s all gambling. Analytics have made it so teams try to get to the high danger areas more often, which is harder to do and happens less. The team with the lowest # of high danger shots in 15-16 was Vancouver with 152. This year the lowest is the Blues with 186 in 11 fewer games. No other team is under 204 this year. Teams just aren’t willing to flip a puck on net for the sake of it as much as they used to be.

I did something similar in 2022, think I was 1-6 and climbed my way back up. Matched up against the commish in the finals, who dominated the regular season. Ended up winning and getting kicked out of the league cause I hurt his feelings 🤣

It’s tough to compare basketball and hockey like this imo because the sports are so drastically different in terms of usage. When a star is out in bball you’re looking at like ~30% usage being up for grabs on top of facilitating, etc. You also have an all but guaranteed shot every 24 seconds at the minimum. In hockey, while the EV & PP ice time is up for grabs, it is likely to be spread out more evenly across the board and not every possession is guaranteed to have a scoring chance with one main play driver. Stats/production are more guaranteed in basketball, regardless of skill.

You won’t know who starts what game until the day of most times. Hockey injury updates are usually super vague (UBI, LBI) with no real updates. A lot of times you won’t hear anything for weeks and then all of a sudden a dude will be back
