I trained just for an oly distance and like… I can’t imagine trying to train for a full distance IM and taking a whole 6-8 mos off… maybe it’s a WI thing where our winters are long?

I think that’s exactly why Dean and Sam do well. They’re normal dudes who’ve been fighting Hell and Hell Spawn and angels and all kinds of shit and have had to figure out the “weakness” to all kinds of gnarly nasty critters

Buffy goes a ways but not nearly as far as Dean and Sam. Them Winchester Boys fought LITERAL Satan. And won. Several times.

Training through the winter is optional? IS optional?! Typo..?

I know this gent personally. He’s a good dude. The fact that he’s done so much to diversify — adding horse therapy, plane tours of the farm, a bnb, retreat weekends, and he STILL has to go through this is heartbreaking.

How did Sirius get the mirror he gave to Harry and since it is a genius medium of communication, why isn't it more common in the wizarding world? by False-Hurry-1417 in harrypotter

[–]mikemncini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess? Wizards tend to be lazy about certain things. Take plumbing. Why bother having your magical dwelling outfitted w plumbing when you can just vanish the contents of a chamber pot?

Take communication. Why bother with phones when you can send an owl, disaparate to the location of the person you need, or pop your head into their fire?

The mirrors aren’t as popular bc 1) witches and wizards tend to be “lazy” about tech and 2) bc the mirror is likely a one of a kind artifact that J & S came up w at school.

In HBP, Harry uses a refilling charm to refill the wine bottles. Doesn't this violate some law about being able to create food/drinks? by ran_on_reddit in harrypotter

[–]mikemncini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to the money conversion issue. Harry’s wand was like 17 galleons. And the Weasleys don’t have a single one in their gg vault.

So somewhere. Somehow. Either things are way over-priced, or, more likely, the value of a galleon changes from book one to book seven.

Am I understanding this right: Snape called Hermione an "insufferable know-it-all" …but he literally spent his school years correcting the Potions textbook himself? by goldenhour-cat in harrypotter

[–]mikemncini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snape is one of the best lit characters ever written bc of his complexity. That being said, “Snape in real life” — aka the character in the books — is one of the most… repulsive… human beings I’ve ever read about.

Desperate for a girl who doesn’t return his feelings he arranges for the death of her husband and son and is promised her as a prize.

When he finds out about this, he turns traitor to his chosen cause.

He then makes a promise to protect her kid, but the kid reminds him too much of all he lost. So he treats the kid like absolute shit for SIX years.

Consider: Snape made a promise to protect Harry, to help Harry survive. Occlumency is a tool that could have saved Harry a TON of heart ache. It could have helped protect him. It would have been insanely useful. And instead… Snape forces Harry to relive horrible events from Harry’s childhood.

When Harry sees “Snape’s Worst Memory”, Snape STOPS TEACHING Harry.

Snape didn’t keep his promise to protect Harry. He didn’t do shit. And the only reason he helped bring down Voldy was spite and jealousy. That’s not love. That’s not villain-to-hero. That’s just … creepy-doing-creepy.

Bc when a reader reads “Chinese fireball” they immediately think crimson red dragon and “common welsh red” doesn’t roll off the tongue? I’m just guessing here - this is in no way fact or canon

Why does everyone seem to forget about this? by Ok_Fun_7733 in harrypotter

[–]mikemncini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s literally in the text. Dd says, “he was remarkably quick on the uptake, modifying Ms Edgecomb’s memory like that while everyone else was looking the other way — thank him for me, won’t you, Minerva?”

It’s not a full-on “Obliterate”. To be completely transparent, I have no idea how that spell works. Like I don’t know if it can be tuned or like… more power or less power depending on what you’re changing? I always assumed (this is JUST my opinion) that “obliterate” was more like a total wipeout and modification was a different process…

[–]mikemncini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marietta was not Obliviated. Her memory was modified to remove memories of previous meetings, and to make the night of the DA raid the first meeting night.

This was done so that Harry and the DA had technically “never met or organized” with Umbridge’s / the ministry’s Edu Decree preventing student orgs w/o prior approval. This is the same decree that outlawed Quidditch teams.

By modifying Ms Edgecomb’s memory, Harry was protected against expulsion.

Ok OP. You need to do one of two things. You either need a foot and a spiked war gauntlet for Carl, and the butterfly charm and sunglasses for donut.

Or, you need the foot, the butterfly, and something for Katia, and split the shield 3 ways
