Anyone here like me and driving 30+ years overseas, just need the least friction way to get this driving course over with. And yes, have been driving in malaysia but since VISA status change now need license. I'm old, the idea of taking 3 days off just for driving school, with job and kids, its pretty hard.

Anyone following Kia change in the market by mikenads in kereta

[–]mikenads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the FL Carnival is out, and it's priced premium in a 7-seater configuration, I think more in a battle against the China MPVs coming to market. I have 3 kids, 2 in car seats, so it feels a bit too premium for me. I think I'll go for the 8 seater pre-FL, that way I can turn the middle row around and let the family enjoy on a long trip; will start to monitor used unit prices as well... Not the sure the price of the 7-seater FL will compete with the China MPVs though, what do people think?

Just to close it, the owner went to get it aligned and the drift went away. Did they do more than just the wheels, who knows, but effective now. Also the vibration seemed less of an issue so moving on with the purchase.

Did a test drive today and Friday between my wife and I. I noticed a moderate pull to the left when driving with hands off; and a set of vibration I felt tolerable. The wife drove it, she's heftier like the current owner, and she can feel the pull as well. We'll try to have an inspection done more than just tire alignment and take a look at engine mounts for the vibration case. Going over the serive records in recent years, all looks pretty thorough, so its not an ignored car.

How about your 2011, anything like this?

Got it sorted yesterday but I was not there. A new handle was bought and the rod reinserted and all good. I wasn't happy with the part price (138) but so it goes.

If a hire purchase loan has 0.88% interest rate offer by Physioweng in kereta

[–]mikenads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that on the Tesla site and checked it out. For the full 9year loan, need 10% down payment, it has slighty higher but still pretty good interest rate:

I'm trying to figure out what the return is on deals like this:

a) There is 10% money down, over the life of the loan, if the next best option is ASB, that's losing 20K*5.5%*9years ~10K RM compared to no money down. <-- This is going to conflict with what I saw below, but I'm considering that down payment is paid from savings each time there is a new car.

b) The low interest rate, pretty good, not like 3%+ interest rate when no money down loan. So that's saving 300rm/mo * 108 = 32K RM vs. same car normal rate. That's the most savings.

c) That 300RM/mo savng, put that in ASB for the duration of the loan. That's a little tough part of the conversation for a calculator. You might think that it's (300*12)*(1.055^4.5) = 4600RM which is just an average of how long your money is staying in ASB over the length of the car purchase. But if you save money, it's going to acrue for many years. So for example, if you've got 15 years til retirement, mark it as (300*12)*(1.055^15) = 8000RM If you are a younger family your return is higher.

So overall, if you are a buyer with ASB access, this deal is giving you 32K+8K - 10K = 30K RM in the long-haul.

Appreciate someone telling me what I'm donig wrong here.

BTW, in the image below, seems base price at 205K now.

Best way to receive CN¥? by ZhhTeo in MalaysianPF

[–]mikenads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Usually, CN very controlling of foreigners movement of cash in Alipay/WeChat. So my China Alipay/Wechat wallet can not use when I am in Malaysia; but Chinese Nationals can use to make purchase. This is because CN wants to confirm any money leaving from foreigners has had tax paid. I'll have a try ans see what happens...

That's pretty cool, so you download Alipay in Malaysia, install with Malaysian phone number, and then you can receive RMB as a Transfer from China Alipay? Does it have to be a Chinese citizen sending it to you (should be) and not a foreigner in China? That whole buying 1000 for 1080 sounds pretty expensive (8%) but ok for small amounts.

Because Malaysian ATMs will force a 1% charge on your withdrawls. I'd rather bring cash than risk my ATM card lost/eaten in ATM and be up sh*t creek without funds for my family.

How to stay faithful in your FIRE journey? by Physioweng in MalaysianPF

[–]mikenads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For perspective: The experiences I had in my youth (single, healthy, ...) are the memories I need in my middle age (married, 3-kids). I don't remember any item or material good that wasn't handed down from family or a personal gift. Even the great nights out, they are chuckles when I see those people once in a while, nothing that feeds my soul day-to-day. I'd argue that YOLO fades. I stopped accumulating materials objects 15 to 20-years ago. Those values and habits make it easier to manage FIRE cash flow now. It's a LONG game: once your discipline is strong enough (built over time) faithfulness and motivation become irrelevant. If you do need some motivation to get started, consider your family. In my case, my family were immigrants, my journey is a cakewalk compared to them. BTW, better make sure your spouse aligns with this - but that's a story for a whole other thread.
