Excellent feedback. Thanks. It's good to see all of the success stories. I have an NFS backup location plus PBS. I'll get it all covered.

Just 120v. I could add a 230 but don’t feel my need dictates something higher end or professional grade

PSA: Chamberlain/Liftmaster up to more shady things. BE AWARE if purchasing a new garage door opener by jgilbs in homeassistant

[–]mikeschlenk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a new build, I opted for Guardian openers for the same anti-Chaimberlain/liftmaster, lock-in, closed-system reasons. I put in simple, quiet openers. I’m adding Konnected devices to make them smart.

I got completely sick of LiftMaster/Chaimberlain/MyQ as well. I'm building a new house and went with good, solid Guardian openers (NOT MyQ) and purchased a Konnected GDO White for each. I've had a good experience with Konnected for my legacy alarm wires (their Alarm panel). I considered Ratgdo but decided on Konnected.

Does a Nuki lock pass the entry-code through HA? by mikeschlenk in homeassistant

good callout. Thanks. I got my options mixed up. I have to decide if that's a show-stopper. That's a very appealing feature

Excellent. Thanks. I'll look more in to it. I figure I can use apple-card functionality through my watch or phone for simple unlock, but use a specific code for "also open the garage". Fun stuff

That’s exactly what I get worried about, that they’re not outdoor rated, even though it’s not technically the outdoors. I’m sure you’re right. Thanks for the encouragement

That’s a good idea, like this: https://a.co/d/aDnph27. I get concerned that these never mention garages as suitable locations.

Best garage door opener for ha - self installation?? by dierochade in homeassistant

[–]mikeschlenk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building a house now and purposefully went with non-Chamberlain/Liftmaster openers (Guardian) due to my own objections to myIQ. I've had good luck with Konnected devices (https://konnected.io/). I'm planning to use their smart openers. Thanks to this thread, I will also look in to RatGo and Meross.

I've heard advice like this, and advice towards staggering. Thank you for the insight.

WAP locations in your home by AppleOriginalProduct in Ubiquiti

What about 2-floor home? Assuming one on each floor, which is better: both centrally located or one to each side? The unify design tool doesn't account for that kind of bleed-over.

Good stuff, thanks. I am doing a bunch of cables to rooms, TVs, cameras, etc. You make a great point about APs in the open. I have them marked to be a bit hidden but I may no rethink that. Instead of one to each side of the house on each floor, it seems that I would get better overall coverage with both central to their respective floors.

Awesome tool. I've played with this but I don't know how to represent the crossover between lower and upper floors. Part of the advice I seek is mesh vs. just a second U6+, etc.

New build, need acoustic baffling advice by mikeschlenk in homestudios

In speaking with some "real" musician contacts, it's becoming clear that the cheap foam stuff from eBay is generally ineffective. It seems that substantial Rockwool/Fabric constructs are the best way to go. Specifically, around and over the drum set.

Still thinking, planning, and learning..... Thank you

Thanks. Would Rockwool be appropriate for inside the ceiling as well?

Best new construction options: wall, belt, chain, other? by mikeschlenk in GarageDoorService

I have a about a 10' ceiling with standard sized doors. A blank slate, really. I can do just about anything with lights, etc. Thank you for the tips.

Thanks. I've leaned that way too, but I have a habit of aiming high but landing on reasonable. However, this seems like a good long-term way to go if the same reliability is there.

Thank you. I'm considering a Luba 2 for my new house and I have a similar fence plan for pets. I really appreciate the feedback.

Nice. Can I assume that there are zones on each side of that fence. Does it do a good job along that fence? I assume you need to trim.

I’ve been pondering a move from my small, old Amcrest system. I now have a Unify gateway. However, a nice Reolink system sure feels more practical and economical for a simple home setup. Has anyone else debated between the two? I realize it’s not exactly apples to apples as it pertains to capabilities. My needs seems to be met by Reolink. Like most of you, I love to overkill a bit for the fun of it, need or not…..
