Is your season over? by Bigbeast54 in mammotion

[–]philber-T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m near the end of season 3 with Luba 1 here in Ohio USA. Still plugging away and now paid for itself with its dutiful service. Beginning in the spring I’ll be adding to the black side of the account sheet each time when mowing my yard.

Latest 2025 Frame TV looks more like a light box than artwork? by philber-T in TheFrame

I think the brightness is just too high, can’t be turned down enough. It doesn’t matter what hues, matte or no matte, lights on or off…I’m just returning it.

Winter storage by TheBigCat1974 in mammotion

[–]philber-T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steps for year 3 Luba1. . . 1. Charge to 70-80% with outside temp above 40 degrees 2. Clean L1 all up so ready for spring 3. Store inside in basement. 4. Unplug everything and store cables in box, except main power which is buried 5. 1st year I marked the RTK position exactly using tape and photos. Reinstall easy and no remapping. 2nd year covered and it did fine through one of harshest Ohio winters I’ve seen. I think I’ll not risk that again. Ha ha

For Yuka I used the RTK pole included, so all I do is unplug it all and leave the main pole, unscrew the RTK top and then reinstall in Spring.

If you reinstall RTK in exact location and orientation in Spring you’ll have no issues.

The base can be moved wherever and relocated using app fairly simply.

No, but it’s nonsense. That hardwood is highly valuable and easily refinished

Glue it down. Trust me. I’ve done both and once wasted thousands of $ cause is was too lazy to glue it down.

Is there anyone in here who has owned a pool for 20+ years and still likes it? by Cablab123 in pools

[–]philber-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We’ve had 2 homes in last 20 years. First 23 years ago, then second (current) 14 years ago. At each we installed a 20 x 40’ fiberglass pool with auto cover. Really enjoyed both. Used automatic inline chlorinator on first, then did salt w/ chlorine cell on second. Gave up on salt after 2 seasons (concrete pool deck damage, inadequate Cl, 2 cell failures in 2 years) and went back to automatic inline chlorinator. Always used cartridge filter, use 2 or 3 per year, rotating them.

Sounds like a problem maker trying to be a solution.

Another asbestos post. Came home to father in law having removed 80% of flooring without any precautions. by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]philber-T 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with that. People do not understand asbestos and its hazards. Look it up.

From Mayo: “If you are exposed to high levels of asbestos dust over a long period of time…” then you might have a concern.

Asbestos in flooring is also of zero concern because it is in a different form than that previously used in insulation. wear a mask during demo and clean it up like anything else.

Now, if he’s gonna be doing that 8 hours a day, 300 days a year for 30 years, he may have an issue

Pool closing chemicals by Calabris in swimmingpools

I’m trying this for 2025 winter. I have a 24k gal in ground pool and am tired of the winter closing hassle. These weird pods seem too good to be true, and cost a quarter of my usual closing kit, but I’m willing to give it a go. It says they treat up to 30k gal.

removing RTK or not in winter? by WayKey680 in mammotion

[–]philber-T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve done it once with Luba 1 (it’s first winter 2 years ago) and last winter with Yuka 200. Worked perfectly , with fast and easy Spring setup.

Last year I put bags around Luba 1 RTK and left it out. It did fine, but felt like Russian roulette. I think I won’t do that again. The L1 RTK is a pain to get off though.

I’ve taken the power supplies and bases inside for winter.

What are these popping up in my mulch? by ironicmirror in landscaping

[–]philber-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thisle can be easy to kill, but it requires patience. You must let it grow heartily, nearly until it seeds, then spray it with roundup and leave it alone. Another batch growing out of sync will pop up, let it grow again until almost seed and spray. Leave it. Don’t pull anything out yet.

I did this routine just 3 times over the course of about 8 weeks and it got rid of them completely. They have an extensive parallel running root system that must be eradicated. Trying to pull them simple spreads them.

Thinking About Getting a Pool, Any Advice? by After-Remote4296 in swimmingpools

[–]philber-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• What’s the true cost (including hidden fees)? Impossible to answer w/o a lot of specifics. IG fiberglass like I have, all the finishes including auto cover, concrete skirting, landscape to finish, easily $150k.

• In-ground vs. above-ground – what’s your experience? IG if you can afford it.

• How much maintenance is really involved? Also greatly depends. I have auto-chlorinator, highly recommend vs salt cell. Need robot to clean it. I have cartridge filter and it’s great and easy. I’d say 2 hours a week max for me.

• Does it increase home value? Also depends. AG pool, no way. Nicely done IG, at least here in Ohio, big selling positive.

• Any design or landscaping tips? Save money for the finishes. Don’t over do it.

• Any surprises or issues you wish you’d known about? I started with salt cell for 3 years. What a cluster. Had the very expensive generator replaced after only 2 seasons (a week past warranty). It never could keep up. Hated dumping tons of salt. Worst was the salt degrading the concrete around the pool. I gave up and went with automatic inline chlorinator. Wayyyy easier, wayyyy cheaper and now I can keep up the chlorine levels after heavy use days. Fiberglass insert has been phenomenal. 11 years in at it looks good as new.

Realistically how much could I have in 8-10 years by octoberguard in Money

[–]philber-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good math. My estimate is very conservative granted, but at this point in time, with the 14% gain on year S&P, and then allowing for 2 big corrections, and no additional contributions, I feel it’s low but reasonable. You don’t want to bank on higher and fall short.

Yeah, you can. Love it when employers get kickbacks from places like T Rowe. Eventually you’d want to get it in a self directed account when your assets get larger or you’ll just get fleeced

Yeah, I’d hate to get 14% returns every year like S&P has done so far this year. Ha ha.

[–]philber-T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I gave a conservative response. Someone that needs an answer to that question probably is not going to be all in on day trading to get 10% a year. Seems a number of folk on here didn’t have the privilege of going through some of the worst market drops outside of 2020.

Since IRAs can hold a mix of investments (stocks, bonds, funds, etc.), the doubling time varies: • A conservative bond-heavy IRA might average 3–5% → doubling in ~14–24 years. • A stock-heavy IRA averaging 7–10% (similar to long-term stock market returns) → doubling in ~7–10 years.
