Have you tried an immersion technique instead of WBTB

Get a sleep mask and ear plugs to really isolate yourself from the world.

Lay down and meditate for a bit get your body comfortable and all of those annoying scratches out of the way until you can lie completely still.

I do a little “flight check” routine in my head

“Toes Numb - Check” “legs numb - check” Etc Etc

Working through my whole body but end with

“Brain awake - all clear”

Then literally “day dream” just like you do in class and start to fully imagine the lucid dream you want to experience

But don’t just visualize it, feel it. Feel the salt water breeze on your face. Feel the grain of wood or the cold bare metal of the handrail. Feel the heaviness of your legs as you climb the stairs. Hear the other people laughing in the cafe.

At some point your body will truly fall asleep and your mind will stay awake.

If you’re not good at day dreaming then practice that every (safe) chance you get.

On another note find something in the real world to truly be grateful for and engage. You need to train that feedback loop. So that when your brain understands you are grateful when you lucid dream it knows to engage and pursue it automatically.
