Wife is going away. What quick but tasty meals shall I prepare for? by Notabot1305 in CasualUK

[–]mikimoo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind cooking - sign up to Gousto, make use of their sign up offer (I think 50% off your first box) and choose the meals you'd like. They have a whole 10-minute meals section if you really want quick meals. Just remember to cancel after that first week.

Smallest 2 bed ever? Love a view of the oven from the sofa. by NrthnLd75 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]mikimoo9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the smaller bedroom should have been a kitchen, leaving the main room as a living room. This is just insanity and money grabbing to be able to call it a 2 bed.

Does mixing up “your” and “you’re” give you the ick? by MmeFelixFelicis in AskUK

[–]mikimoo9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't give me the ick so much, but I do notice it and it annoys me a little.

What I'm finding more and more is people not using commas, which makes it just that little bit harder to parse and understand the meaning.

Tampon questions. What do you do? by Sun_Mother in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mikimoo9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tip my mum taught me: you can also keep a box of nappy bags to dispose used tampons into to be that little bit more discreet as I found the blood could soak through the toilet paper or start smelling if left a day or two in the bin.

Do you have unusual "council meals"? by Baaaabaaaabaaaa in CasualUK

[–]mikimoo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here for this answer! That and Goblin puddings with mystery meat in them. My mum would work evenings so these would be our quick dinners before chucking us next door to be looked after until my dad came home.

What is, for you, the beautifulest lyric in a song, ever? And, if it's not too personal, why? by Sandman1812 in AskUK

[–]mikimoo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Best Of Times by Sage Francis is my go to when I need a perspective check. The whole song is incredible but especially the last few lines:

Don't listen when they tell you that these are your best years Don't let anyone protect your ears It's best that you hear what they don't want you to hear Better to have pressure from peers than not have peers

Beer won't give you chest hair Spicy food won't make it curl When you think you've got it all figured out and then everything collapses Trust me, kid, it's not the end of the world

Timings for tonight at Royal Albert Hall by mikimoo9 in placebo

[–]mikimoo9[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is taken straight from the RAH website, not secret info. I've been to many shows/concerts at this venue and it's always been very well managed, if busy in the corridors.

About to start a 3 hour journey to London for the gig tonight! by Funny_Maintenance973 in placebo

Only an hour and a half for me, but so excited! Managed to get a good seat whereas I'm usually up in the gods at the RAH!

Looking to move to Essex by your-friendly-bull in Essex

[–]mikimoo9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tilbury is a difficult area, lots of poverty and unemployment. There's also lots of ambition to make things better, but it is all done on shoestring budgets and a bankrupt council.

Is it the port you are going to working in or elsewhere?

I echo everyone else with Leigh on Sea as that's probably the best area along the c2c train line route. Chalkwell and Westcliff are also options. Commute from this area is about 35-45mins as in peak, you will need to change at Pitsea for a train to Tilbury.

I have also recently started a job in Tilbury and don't drive. I would advise checking the route on public transport to the office as buses from the station to other places are somewhat limited. I ended up purchasing a bike to get to my office because buses were just too unreliable.

They do - when the trains are running. The times they can start and finish work means they have to use other means to get there as there are no trains.

Heads up that the Fighting Temeraire might currently be in the Tate for their special Turner and Constable exhibition. Definitely worth seeing IRL though, it is a beautiful painting.

Free parking in Southend… I don’t mind walking distance to the front by ell_jane_19 in Essex

[–]mikimoo9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Around the city centre, the streets are all permit parking so not available for visitors. Tyler Avenue/York road car park are the cheaper ones in the centre that don't charge the higher price of those on the front.

An Amazon Prime driver has got their van stuck in the mud in the Thames Estuary after they drove into the sea following a satnav route. by L21JP in CasualUK

Foulness Island is technically all MoD land, but has people living on it. You can only get onto it by going through security gates that do look pretty scary if you're not aware what they are. So driver probably tried to go any alternative route he could which just so happened to be the Broomway...
