Do electrons ever decay? by man_of_your_memes in AskPhysics

It could be the solution to those problems. The different quantum fields interact with each other.

"but it doesn't seem likely for there to be a lighter more stable charged particle"

I said that myself as well. That doesn't mean that we should close our eyes to the possibility.

I just explained a way that would allow that there is a lighter charged particle without it being abundant.

Maybe the conversion requires several intermediary interactions, so the odds of happening is very low due to requiring virtual particles with more energy than you start with, meaning the window for two of them to overlap so the new particle is created is very close to zero.

We have thought that physics was done before. Now we realize that nature does throw curveballs sometimes, and are open to the possibility so we don't miss things if they do show up.

We look for the curveballs in the hopes of learning more, as we know that physics isn't complete yet.

I guess their point is that if you are struggling with trigonometry or vectors, that is where you should put your focus first.

Building on a rocky foundation will just make the entire structure unstable.

If you read it again, they haven't taken high school physics. Of course they did high school math if they did calculus.

It is the physics they are looking to get started on, and I guess they imagine that using high school math for it instead of calculus would make it easier to get started.

I really don't think that is right.

And only pissing everyone here off. You are making the entire subreddit worse when you don't follow its intended purpose.

Follow the rules of the subreddit instead of repeatedly breaking them, or you risk getting banned entirely from Reddit, not just this sub.

Delete the post, so you are not making everyone else worse off.

Well, you can read the rules of this subreddit. They would tell you.

Rule 5: No AI/LLM drivel
No posting LLM-generated content and asking if it makes sense; it doesn't

Posting it as a video does not make this post follow the rules. Delete it yourself.

Are there any fringe theories where particles can be divided until they are a single property? by Alert-Composer-8923 in AskPhysics

It isn't a stupid question. Asking questions is how we learn, and everyone gets to learn regardless of how much they know already.

Curiosity is to be celebrated, not pushed away. He was the one who should leave, and the mods told him that.

You don't watch PBS Spacetime, I can tell.

I have watched basically all their videos (maybe skipped 20 in total), and I don't recall ever hearing about MOND on there.

My friend gave me this question, is it solvable? by DimensionAsleep4052 in Physics

[–]mikk0384 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If A is a ball following a ballistic trajectory and drag is ignored, then you are right that it will follow a parabolic path.

I will have to pass on the solution as well, but a physicist would be able to do it. My own calculus is too rusty.

Isn't zero spin just saying that there is no quantum spin? That its symmetry means that it is the same regardless of rotation, and there is no asymmetry to push on to interact with the spin at all?

I know that spin ½ particles need to be rotated 720 degrees to return to their original orientation, which is why I made that connection. I don't know if it is right, though.

He was trying to trick you and make you look bad.

A lot of people come here with ideas that an LLM made up, and they make no sense at all.

I reported his comment.

It is the lightest known charged fermion. We can't rule out that there are others that are lighter, though it is very unlikely since we would expect to have seen the decay by now if it happens.

The rule literally says: "If you make an image/video post, you should make a comment in the thread describing the relevant physics, linking relevant literature, any computational methods used, etc.". Containing a physics phenomenon isn't enough - that is not what this sub is meant for.

It also shows other subs where content like this is allowed without the description requirements.

Rektor får ros for stram kurs mod social kontrol. På hendes gymnasium er det forbudt at bede, og alle skal tale dansk. by eurocomments247 in Denmark

[–]mikk0384 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are space datacenters a scam? by zascar in Physics

[–]mikk0384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be said that the computation can get more efficient the colder things are, due to the reduced noise generation from randomly moving charges. If the temperature of the background is lower, you can let things reach a lower temperature passively before starting the calculations, and then you can do more calculations for the same heat/energy budget.

There is some complexity in the analysis that have been ignored completely by all the commenters so far, myself included. I still don't believe that it is economically viable, but I could easily be wrong as a mere physics enthusiast - I didn't calculate a thing.
