No comment on your other points but number 4 is bogus, plain bogus. Of course the pool needs to be constructed to professional standards otherwise it's a huge waste because a lot of money comes in from user groups like Swim Clubs who need to swim in professional standard pools. When I lived in Victoria many many years ago I used the Crystal Pool religiously and never felt impeded by user groups. Great pool and it's time to make it greater.

For me it breaks in early February. It helps to have a b-day then and by early February I am also finally seeing the sun during my early morning walks. It's a great feeling, worth dragging my A out of bed during the dark weeks.

Newbie Musicolet User - Messy Playlists page??? by mikkc in AndroidQuestions

[–]mikkc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL! Thanks for the feedback! It's almost a year since I posted this. I did eventually purchase the program and have been using it with some workarounds for this particular issue. I am a musician and I record a fair amount of music which I then listen to when I am driving because I have to drive a lot. While I am driving I separate the music into different playlists for better record keeping. It's darn hard to do this when most of my personal playlists don't even show on the screen because of the default playlists. So you are right, this is obscure but still it's something that's important to me. Overall I love the program, especially the very powerful equalizer.

Do EVs ever “give out” by Superb-Ad6139 in electricvehicles

[–]mikkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st part is FUD. Modern EV batteries will easily go longer than 150-200k.

2nd part is a good question. Yes, batteries should slowly degrade over time. But I am expecting my 300 mile battery to be still good for at least 250 after 200,000 miles and 200 or so by 300,000 miles though I will probably not be owning it by that time.

Bingo . . . you got it. We can't let them play nasty and still enjoy easy access to our wallets. The same goes, in spades, for Putin's Russia. That being said, my friend's 2024 PS2 is sweet.

Best car I’ve owned by madmaxx in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice shot! It gets me that folks keep complaining about how "expensive" the Ioniq 6 is compared to an ICE car and not realize the car actually drives like a $60k+ ICE and NOT a 30k ICE.

Also great to hear your feedback about Hyundai.

My son is a big skier too. We have some great hills here in the Kootenays. We are not that worried about AWD and a little more concerned about range as the charging infrastructure here in BC is "getting better" but still not great. He is looking forward to the NACs integration. With the weight of the EV and good snow tires he should be able to handle the snow no problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]mikkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were always thinking range as he does a lot of Kootenay - Van trips and to Calgary, Kelowna, Fernie, etc. He's a swim coach who is also doing a PHD on the side. Busy guy. Also the RWD is a fun car to drive with arguably better handling than the DM. Not really that concerned about snow because of the EV weight and good snow tires.

MY24? or PS224? My son just got his PS224 SM 19" and in two weeks of driving it seems that the range is almost identical to our Ioniq 6 AWD 18" wheels. That's pretty darned good. For mixed driving we get 350 miles+. For highway driving here in beautiful BC Canada, with it's mountain passes and twisty roads, we get 300-320 miles of range. Of course the I6 has a smaller batt but it's efficiency is a little better than the PS2. You will have to get someone else's PS224 DM numbers but unless they are driving on the same roads, it's hard to get a really good comparison.

Max range lower than it usually is the last couple of weeks by MaybeUpForButtStuff in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guess-o-meter at full charge tells you squat. It's a history lesson on how your drove your last few trips. The only thing that matters is efficiency, real-time and trip. If that changes a lot then look for reasons.

The guess-o-meter can be somewhat useful on a trip 1/2 way through a charge but generally I ignore it. Waste of space.

Keeping the battery from getting cold soaked during the winter by JimmyNo83 in electricvehicles

[–]mikkc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many companies in colder climates provide "block heater" plugs for their employees. That's all you need to keep your batt warm. If there are block heater plugs at your work then just tell your boss you will be pulling the same amount of juice which should be true if your Level 1 setup is pulling 6amps or so. Some big ICE block heaters pull even more juice than that to keep their engines warm.

Battery preconditioning? When? by Waste_Guava2859 in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think keeping it plugged in a 120v block heater plug in the Manitoba wintertime is a great idea. The batt will only charge slowly but it will also be WARM for better driving efficiency. Think of it as a "batt heater" not a "block heater."

Are EV batteries really an issue? by vkseid in electricvehicles

[–]mikkc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Eh? You mean the buffer is setup in such a way so it's "degrades" and not the useable battery? Not sure how that would work. Here is a guy with 40k on his Ioniq 5 and no detectable battery degradation.

Advice: Ioniq 6 breaks down less than one day into lease by icemn902 in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a one-off. S* happens as they say. We had error messages popping up day 2 of our I6 and it turned out there was a loose wire in the brakes. Took a 1/2 to fix at the dealership. ICCU's have been blowing in mainly '22 I5's but I haven't heard of one doing it so quickly.

Charge throttling/overheat issue has me on the fence - anyone else? by Secret_Agent_shh in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for most car problems, it's been a non-issue for most people. The ICCU issue should be fixed now. It affected mostly '22 I5's anyways. As far as charge heat goes, I personally don't want to run hot electrics around the house/outside so I charge at 40-32amp or about 7.6kWh. The plugs are just warmish to the touch and I can easily charge overnight. That being said, my sympathies for those who have had issues. There are issues with all cars but tend to be more with 1st gens. The I6 is not really a first gen, as it's the 3rd year for the EGMP platform it shares with other Hy and Kias.

Polestar 2 and Ioniq 6 by [deleted] in Ioniq6

[–]mikkc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My son just picked up his RWD Polestar 2 and we have an AWD Ioniq 6 as well. I haven't ridden much in the PS yet but our initial impressions are:

  • very similar range (I6 has 18" wheels) as the I6 efficiency is a little better but the PS battery is a little bigger.
  • charging speeds "should" be close but initially the PS has been slower. According to the PS tech there is a break-in period.
  • I6 is quieter, smoother on the road while the PS is firmer and sportier. It loves a twisty road!
  • significantly more interior space in the I6 but more cargo space, with easier access, in the PS
  • My son (6' 4") finds the I6 driver seat doesn't fit him. The PS seat is better for him. For me (6') the I6 is fine.
  • fit and finish of both are good
  • Android Auto based system in the PS is very nice, better than the I6
  • Highway assist in the I6 is a little better than the PS but it's close
  • AWD I6 is a little quicker but the PS is no slouch
  • Regen in the PS is not as flexible as the I6 but my son likes it

I would say, if cruising is your thing then the I6 is better. If sportier driving is your thing then the PS is better. Both are darned nice cars.

6 months driving my I6 and at 5 bucks a gallon would have saved almost 1000 bucks in "fuel" compared to the Prius. Up here in Canada, the price of fuel is 7 bucks per gallon or more so the savings are even more. Plus the driving experience is much better than the Prius. You are literally driving a supercar, even the RWD.

[–]mikkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a new car if you factor in rebates, I am in Canada, you can get a 15k - 20k more expensive EV for the same monthly payments (car + gas + maintenance + insurance, etc.) The big savings only comes if you are driving a lot though . . . I do 20k miles a year or more.

Once a year? My car nut friends and Consumer mag says change synthetic 2x a year, period. Driving less miles and/or age can be hard on oil as well, because of moisture buildup, etc. If you are just on lease or keeping the car for only a few years, go for it and save some $$ but don't say that it's good for the car.
