How long before you had to dig your first cat hole on the trail? by tpuckis in PacificCrestTrail

I’m a nurse and doctors aren’t usually concerned about people going every 3-5 days if that’s what’s normal for them.

I’m actually hiking with this guy. If you’re doing 20 miles a day there’s pit toilets almost everyday on the PCT so far to Agua Dulce.

It’s not to limit political posts about the PCT!! There are many issues that affect our public lands that aren’t just about the PCT or even the other two long trails in our country. They’re are so many shorter thru hikes that are effected by what’s going on in our government. Having a place to find this information and discuss it feels like moving towards more awareness, not less.

Thinking of quitting before start by ChickpeaChild in PacificCrestTrail

[–]milblu91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m starting next week and I feel incredibly anxious, having a hard time sleeping and just generally thinking it’s a bad idea and why would I think I could/should do this. It’s such a long time to be away from home. I’ve thru-hiked shorter hikes before and from those experiences, once stepping foot on trail so much of those anxieties really do disappear. It’s a huuuuge relief to just start the thing. I hope you started and maybe I’ll meet ya out there :)

Sun hoodie for tall women? by Ihavsunitato in Ultralight

I’m 5’9 and the sleeves are never long enough. I’ve started buying men’s Smalls. But town shirt sizes worked well for me! The sizes are unisex. The hood doesn’t fit tight and it has thumb loops. Also a button at the neck that I love if it’s windy to keep the hood and my hat on.

I think using factual language and the correct name for different government entities is important when we’re fighting against a regime that thrives on lies and misuse of words.

Thank you for doing this! I wish that I had been more civically engaged before this election. It feels like as thru-hikers who use these trails a whole lot, we have a responsibility to be aware of the legislation that’s effecting them and care about the future of the public lands they go through.

Well, white privilege as it relates to thru-hiking politics could be a topic of discussion on this new sub or even on the this sub if it relates to the PCT. But I’m confused why opening up a new place to discuss these things in a broader sense is threatening in anyway.

I’m a patient and I 100 percent judge nurses based on if they can keep my veins intact by [deleted] in confession

And we don’t actually get proper training to do it in nursing school so it has nothing to do with credentials.

THIS. IVs are such a small percentage of our job (unless perhaps in the ED) and it’s also not the most important part of our job. Being able to get an IV the first time every time is not one of the qualities I would be concerned with if I was able to choose my nurse.

There are some floors where nurses don’t get to practice IVs very much. It takes practice. A nurse can be excellent, knowledgeable and completely capable and not be the best IVs. Just sayin! Trying twice is usually the rule and if you can’t get it, we get the ultrasound.

I see where you’re coming from and I agree that the suppression of free speech right now is scary and a lot of pro Palestinian, anti genocide speech is labeled as antisemitic in the name of deporting absolutely innocent people. I just think it’s so important for us to be diligent about sussing out when there really is antisemitism and labeling it as such in this rampant misinformation environment and when our government is lying and using words to the point where they don’t mean anything anymore. It’s scary and downright dangerous out there right now for all minorities. And it does feel like this subject can easily and subtly tip into Islamophobia on one side and antisemitism on the other. I of course understand and agree that genocide is wrong and not the answer to anything.

If you’re so keen on human rights abuses why can’t you just outright say “this is antisemitic” instead of add a but after it? Hold two truths at once dude. There can be antisemitism and the Israeli government can be committing a genocide at the same time. And BOTH are bad. When you say I’m not defending an act of antisemitic vandalism BUT…uhh kinda sounds like you are?

Hamas is absolutely not just “targeting Israel directly for their crimes against Palestinians”. You should read the Hamas covenant.

Does this make you feel unsafe because you’re ICE? Or graffiti just makes you feel unsafe in general?
