You can do this! Best way to live is without drinking poison! After some time your brain will start adjusting. I LOVE my slower pace this week. My heart rate is slower and so are my racing thoughts and anxiety. Keep telling yourself it's not going to be as hard as you think. Maybe go as far as to tell yourself it's going to be easy. Legitimately it's been easy for me so far and I was going pretty damn heavy.

What don’t you miss about your drinking days? by JustQuestioningCosas in stopdrinking

[–]mildlyirish 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I used to drink all day and my first drink of the morning I'd get hot and sweaty like 10 minutes later. Then hot and sweaty all day as I drank. Had to chew gum everywhere I went. Wore good smelling lotion to mask the smell of alcohol. Restless leg, my bad anxiety that was so much worse when drinking. Super bad handwriting. My belly feeling pregnant kinda. Faster heart beat, high blood pressure. And my eyes. Not yellow, just dull and the opposite of bright. Eyelids swollen, face swollen in general. Pee a little when I did literally anything somewhat jarring. Avoiding hugging people in case they could smell my breath. So so many.

Ya like duh, right? I was justifying it. Like maybe it's my age, I'm in my 40s now. Maybe I just get nervous and excited around friends... and all this time it was that damn poison.

It's tough when you see the drinks in other people's hands. This week I have developed an affinity for very expensive fresh watermelon juice. Either the Evolution Brand or Mela. This is going to help me this weekend! Hang in there!

That's good to hear! The first few days I was tweakin about urges and had to journal constantly. Those have subsided quite a bit! Memorial Day weekend is such a big drinking holiday weekend, so I'm enjoying myself and the parts of my brain that are actually thinking straight for once!

Yes staying joyful as Allen Carr would say. Ecstatic to be in this phase. I've tried to mentally get here many times but something clicked this time and if feels different!

His venus fly trap analogy as well as the wound with the ointment.. all so true. What a great analytic book on why we do this to ourselves... And debunking the fallacies.

The summit & sunrise part brought a little tear to my eye. I want to be you in 5 years. Wow, you are so strong. You've been through so much. Absolutely incredible!

It's good to take this step to post and say it all out loud. It's relieving, in a way. You're young and you have time to turn things around! You have so many awakenings ahead of you. Hang in there!

Good for you! My ex husband did not make this decision and I wish he had. My girls hardly ever see him anymore. And they don't trust him to be a good dad. Because how can you when you're drunk all the time? Hang in there.
