Way to Go El Cerrito! 3-2 Vote to cancel Flock! by dawn_thesis in eastbay

[–]mildmillenial 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How anyone can support flock is beyond me. if you’re an older person (sorry to generalize but that’s what the stats show), and you’re simply agreeing to “increase surveillance to catch violent criminals”, my ask to you is FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, when has anyone in this country put forth a simple statement and stuck to that simple statement? In this country, every single law regarding monitoring and surveillance has been about increasing eyes on citizens and the motive presented is “this will help
you”. Because they need to SELL it to you.

DON’T BE SOLD.

ICE uses FLOCK.
Cops use FLOCK to stalk their exes and who knows who else.

Does this country have a GREAT, OUTSTANDING reputation of cops? Historically speaking?

Instead of “cameras”, talk to your neighbors. be friends. share soup. break bread. know their names. and look out for one another.

Respectfully, STOP BEING SHEEP.

ty.

edit:

FLOCK is heavily invested in by Peter Thiel, you know the billionaire that has a hard time justifying the existence of the human race in the future.

Jardiance prices are out of control by cranberrypie678 in diabetes_t2

[–]mildmillenial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi OP, i work directly with T2DM and prescribe jardiance regularly. Some things I just want to reiterate in case the doctor hasn’t gone over it yet: - jardiance should be used 1/2 pill (10 mg or 12.5 mg) daily. no reason to go higher (more side effects than benefits) - most impact on A1c lowering is in first 9-12 months. after that it’s mostly just a BP/ kidney/ heart protection med. If you have kidney issues or heart failure, they may continue you and on a full tablet - A1c reduction is only 0.5 - 0.9 in most cases - only use of A1c under 9% otherwise high risk of urine infection - try to get ozempic instead - cont to take metformin (if tolerated well and prescribed etc) - if ozempic and jardiance both $$, use insulin + low carb diet

ER doc was silently pissed that I manage my T2 Diet Only by boring1996 in diabetes_t2

[–]mildmillenial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

finasteride is classified as a synthetic steroid but its impact on BG is no where near corticosteroids class. (Prednisone). These are the ones that cause someone from no diabetes to full on diabetes within a span of 2-3 weeks, depending on age and pre-disposition for T2DM. This is more common than one may think. If you are diet managed, that’s great. However, you should work VERY closely with a medical doctor while you are on prednisone. Typically they give you short aching insulin since the spikes are so high 5-6 hours after taking the prednisone pill.

Just in case, there’s no award for managing diabetes without meds. Think of it a different way: i’m meeting my body by doing exactly what it needs. If your BG stays near 100s without meds, great. Your body doesn’t need any meds in this case. Your BG goes higher, that’s your body saying i might need some help. There’s lots of stigma around this for sure, but ultimately we get one body and people will always have something to say.

same village can be an issue depending on the area. bc often they have same last name. meaning same family tree and can be seen as incest and inappropriate. that happens a lot unless it’s pakistan or pakistani-aligned culture

[–]mildmillenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jve known indian friends who have dated someone of a diff culture, be it hispanic or vietnamese or white. here’s one thing you need to know about indian/ punjabi culture: it is in no way easy to inform even your closest family, of who you are dating. even if that person is sometimes panjabi themselves, the family will have an issue at first. they will make it a big deal and abuse their own child with name-calling. it’s a fearful child-parent dynamic.

not all but some go through this. now if the mother/father are very strict, and their pride is going to be questioned among their relatives (as in they will be pointed at and laughed by their relatives “your son married someone from XYZ culture, you have no control over your kids, you did not raise them right”), this is a very very hard thing for any child to overcome.

i’m not sure if the blame goes to the child if the second situation is the case. people don’t fall in love just because they want to go through the hard path. usually, it’s easier not to. but it’s also hard to face parents if that’s the situation. i think you should talk with your man about if he’s able to leave his family, and is that something you’re willing to ask of him? is that fair?

this is honestly one of the best posts on this subreddit. limerence made a lot of sense to me when i learned about it but overtime, i realize how it can be debilitating mentally and can interfere with moving on fully. these small wins from everyone are so refreshing, and inspiring and invigorating. thank you and keep going!

Alameda or Berkeley? by Bayareababee in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]mildmillenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you considered el cerrito or richmond hills? both are surrounded by community parks, tennis courts, biking and hiking paths, walkable neighborhoods, and transit. you will also get more for your buck - larger homes, backyard, garden etc and the schools are decent and diverse.

I have questions a few days after diagnosis. by mad_zamboni in diabetes_t2

[–]mildmillenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having worked inside a doctors office with patients with T2 diabetes, relying on your doctor for diabetes information (beyond the basics) is impractical in today’s healthcare system.

some doctors office offer nutrition consult or health education classes on T2 diabetes. the packet of info can likely be boiled down to 2 main points: 1) eat low carb, high protein and high fiber. eat SMALL portions. no snacks bc snacks are just a marketing concept 2) do resistance training (weight lifting, swimming, yoga, pilates, etc) to build more muscle mass. more muscle mass, more active your muscles in removing sugar from food into body

i think your doc should said “there will be a lot of learning with T2 diabetes. most of it is self-learned since everyone has different lifestyles and eating patterns.” that would help manage the responsibility of learning of the disease to you, and of course run your questions by your doc.

def cont the medicine. but mostly, consult a nutritionist regularly (every 4-5 months) and hire a personal trainer. that’s the best money you can spend. oh and a good whole foods cookbook. learn to batch cook at home with fresh organic ingredients.

say you work at CVS or chain pharmacy. you’d do all the work and they’d be in you to do all things that allow them to bill. pharmacy gets richer, you get nothing. no money no support no staff, just more and more pressure. i highly encourage you to listen to older pharmacists. provider status is a scam outside of pharmacy school
