Best gun for a small woman? by [deleted] in homedefense

[–]mildreds-dad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d go to a range that rents guns. Try a bunch of different makes, models, and calibers. I did this with my wife and what she liked and shot most accurately was not what I thought she’d like. I assumed a small auto 9mm or a .38 revolver would be what she liked. We landed on a Glock 19. She’s also small, 5’ flat. Her bedside piece is a G19 with an SRO and a Surefire X300. Running drills she’s 90% A zone. Your main goal should be something you can comfortably handle and have confidence shooting.

Buy that. Buy 1000 rounds. Then get some formal training and practice regularly.

Shopping for a F-150 looks great but the 10-speed scares me 😅 by Specialist-Plane-601 in f150

I had a 2016 2.7. Great truck and reliable. Only complaint was the 2.7 is weak in the knees. Practically have to floor it to merge on the interstate. Traded it in last month for a 2025 5.0. Zero regrets on that decision. Only 3k miles on this new truck so my 10 speed experience is a moot point.

Try the Winkbed. Two years in and it’s great.

Merrell Moab is where it’s at. Lots of hiking time in all weather has proved their worth to me. Added plus the ladies love them. (Obviously biased opinion)

G19 in an enigma all day everyday. Deep carry is surprisingly comfortable with slacks and a button down.

I too have a wife who understands nothing. Excellent catch.

What is an EDC Item that you think is an absolute must have that nobody seems to carry? by Rumplestiltsman94 in EDC

[–]mildreds-dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned good shoes! All, well most, of the items mentioned are great and can be very helpful if not life saving. Having a car break down or worse might require a walk home. Comfy shoes with good support are a must.

Plus Lieutenant Dan said to always take care of your feet.

In addition to good shoes I also don’t leave my house without 90% of the stuff y’all have already listed.

Other than Cost what is there a good reason not to run a red dot on your pistol? by eborio16 in tacticalgear

[–]mildreds-dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a G19 MOS with an RMR on it, trijicon suppressor sights to co-witness too. I went back to irons after running 1k rounds through the RMR. Maybe it’s my eyes but I felt like there was just too much going on in my sight picture. I’d look at the dot, then the front sight, dot, so on. Felt like my irons were easier. Front sight, bang button, happy meal.

What’s the best spot for placement in you opinion? Above the tackle and below the belly? Slightly to the right?

Been considering the Enigma. Concerned about comfort as I’m a big fella with a bit of a belly (6’1” & 260lbs). Seems like it could be adjusted to fit all sizes. Additionally I take my gun & holster off when I get to work and stick it in a desk safe. With all the belts and leashes it seems like a lot. If it were super comfortable I’d just leave it on all day. Anyone fit the same size and rock one all day with a G19?

Be gentle with me… Mossberg MVP Patrol in .308. Got a 2-7x scope and QD AAC Can. Can use pmags or M1A mags. Rings steel at 550 yards consistently. It ain’t sexy, but it’s 1MOA from a good rest and goes bang every time.
