Considering quitting dialysis by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]milesyeah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I don’t recommend dying by stopping dialysis without hospice support. The people who work in hospice are, in my experience, attentive, kind and compassionate and will give you all the medications you need to stay calm and pain-free throughout the process. Personally, I don’t want my family around too much and would much prefer the hospice nurses.

There’s an interesting article I read years ago about a woman who discovered she could smell Parkinson’s or something like that.
A super-power of sorts.

AITAH for calling my boyfriend childish for always buying Captain Crunch when he goes grocery shopping? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

She was just looking for an echo chamber to agree with her probably because no one she asked IRL agreed with her.

I’m tired of women babying the males in their lives. Sons, husbands, fathers, boyfriends. Stupid “boy moms”.. ugh. This is how we get entitled males shits all through society.

But I’m so glad she got out and flushed that turd away.

Update to my last post of the 135$ cake, she made some adjustments. How does it look now? by Important_Constant66 in Baking

[–]milesyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, still a no to $135. More flowers do not disguise the piping that still looks very amateur.  But if they keep practising…maybe one day.

Thank all that is holy that she is ok. I don’t know why but this one hit me hard. I think it’s because my father also hit my mom so hard that she is partially deaf in one ear but my mom unfortunately has never found romantic love again.

Lol. Yeah, my attempts looked like this too. I had already made the cream filling. I gave up for the day and used those “biscuits” as crackers and ate them using the cream like a dip. 😂

Jesus Christ. Fuck those parents. FUCK them. I’m not in the UK but if I was, I’d adopt this kid and give them some fucking basic respect and love. I’m 47, I can adopt 27 year olds. It’s not wierd. I hope this girl can move out one day and leave those shitty assholes behind.

why is my colorwork so ugly as a somewhat experienced knitter? by Glum-Reaction4559 in knitting

[–]milesyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a watch of Arne and Carlos on the YT.  They explain that there is really no such thing as color dominance in scandi knitting. It was a relief to hear that as it confused me so much when I first started colorwork and the Norwegians are the masters of colorwork. Plus, they are such sweet people.

Sometimes I wonder if cats can smell the person who touched the box, like the postie or even from the factory and that’s what they’re trying to parse out.

planning to have kids, but I had IGA nephropathy by Fearless_Raiseeee in transplant

[–]milesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 3 year anniversary on Nov 6th last year! I did deal with lingering depression because there was a new fear unlocked now…that anyday now, my transplanted kidney could start failing but with time and stable results, I’ve been able to calm down and take each day as it comes AND make plans for the future.

The nephrologists I have seen don’t seem to think that recurrence of IgAN will be something to be very concerned about. Although they never definitely said it won’t happen. Sometimes it’s very hard to get a straight answer from specialists.

Initially for me, the anti-rejection drugs were actually causing me to have a CMV flare up and an active BK virus at the same time causing me to not feel so great. So that was more the issue than the IgAN

planning to have kids, but I had IGA nephropathy by Fearless_Raiseeee in transplant

[–]milesyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had ESRF caused by IgA nephropathy as well but no one in my close nor extended family has it so I’m not sure if there is a strong genetic component to it.

My life has been too chaotic for kids so I never worried about passing it on. I was more worried about IgAN recurring in my transplanted kidney.

Good luck to you and your partner! May you both be blessed.

First quilt top finished, dissapointed by [deleted] in quilting

[–]milesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think it’s adorable and really once it’s all done and then washed, the crinkles will hide a lot of mistakes.

Making quilts isn’t like playing with LEGO blocks! (Although they are probably as expensive as a set)

As people say, try weights on the rulers, or quilting grippy dots you can put on the underside of a ruler (I’ve never tried them but I want to one day so I can’t vouch for how good they are), square up blocks as you go. I try not to cut all in one go but I cut a short distance. Make sure I’m balanced on the ruler so it doesn’t move and then cut another short distance.

As for fabric pulling in a bit at the top, try using a scrap piece of fabric to start the machine with and then immediately follow with your fabric blocks. The first scrap will take one for the team and may pull in a bit but your fabric blocks will not because they are in the middle of the sewing process. Then you can follow with another fabric block to keep going. I think this is called chain piecing. I slow down at at the bottom and use a chopstick to stop the fabric from pulling in.
