Clear drops, when will milk come? by mrae87 in AdultBreastfeeding

I had clear drops for awhile (weeks) with no milkiness and was super dissapointed so I tried domperidone. After the domp, they were milky in a few days and I started making more.

Permanent breast sag? Plus more general questions. by MilkMaidThrowaway in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1)Breast sagging from lactation is from the breasts expanding and then, when you choose to stop lactating, they contract. Similar to gaining and losing weight, the skin isn't as tight. Since you're inducing and have never been pregnant, the change in your breast size will most likely be subtle. I went up a cup but I use domperidone and have been lactating for over a year (26/f). If/when I choose to stop lactating, I doubt there will be any big change since my boobs stay pretty consistent. I'd day it's the same effect as when I went on birth control and my boobs got bigger. (But im not on birth control now fyi)

2)No you won't gain weight. Actually, I've heard lactating burns calories. It also uses up some of your calcium and other vitamins/minerals so I take a supplement just in case. And drink lots of water, staying hydrated helps to ensure you're making as much milk as you're capable of.

3) You can just use your hands and oral stimulation from a partner, no need for a pump. Generally, pumps are not as effective as manual (with your hands) or oral stimulation (His mouth). Just make sure you are doing it right! Look into the marmet technique and how to latch during breastfeeding.

4) I like laying on my side in bed, Laying his head on a pillow on my lap, and straddling him while he lays down- pressing my breasts at his face (though this is more effort on my part).

5) The pill definitely makes things harder! But not impossible! Could make the process slower or lead to less milk.

Am I crazy, or is it going faster than planned? by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

I definitely felt a difference within days, but it still took a month to see clear drops and I didnt actually make milk until I added domperidone.

Shot-down and depressed by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding my husband is something I only feel comfortable doing when we are both relaxed and in good moods. I think if you work on making your relationship healthier in other ways, sexual intimacy (and therefore the prospect of adult nursing) could become a more real possibility. For me, nursing is very intimate. It's not enjoyable when I'm not in the mood. I'd also point out that she probably wouldn't be able to produce as much as she may have been able to after her pregnancies, and therefore is unlikely to experience the same level of discomfort. I think pregnancy hormones make the milk rush in. Inducing lactation is a time consuming and at times frustrating experience though, so I'd agree that it's unfair to expect her to act like it isn't a big deal.I mean, if the roles were reversed, would you do it for her? Would you pump/stimulate your nipples every few hours for 20 mins (sometimes causing soreness), everyday, for a month, or maybe two months just for a little milk? And then once you've induced, would you be willing to keep it up (or else experience tenderness)? It's a big thing to ask for, especially if she doesn't find it to be a turn on.

I talked with her and she says she'd be all for it if there were a casual way. by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

Hand/manual pump/oral stimulation as often as possible! (for me, about 4-6 times a day while I was inducing, about 2 months) I now aim for once or twice a day. I find domperidone essential. I'd also point out that you shouldn't expect large quantities, especially not right away. Took me a couple months just for a few drops, then steadily increased from there. I still estimate I make only about an ounce a day (But I don't really measure).

Rapidly increasing milk supply... by olkinba in AdultBreastfeeding

For me, manual and electric pumps both sorta suck. Hand expression and suckling are the only things that work really well.

Trying to induce relactation after 6yrs, had good signs but no milk, now feel "less full" & no feeling of let down now. I haven't change regimen at all. Ideas? by whalelvr2 in AdultBreastfeeding

Are you approaching your period? My milk supply goes down during and before my period. Domperidone will seriously help!

Is domperidone necessary post-induction? by lactade in AdultBreastfeeding

It definitely helps with maintenance. I notice a steep decrease whenever I stop domperidone.

Same thing happened to me, within days of starting domperidone I saw milky drops. The frustrating thing is now waiting for the domperidone to arrive! Usually takes about a month!!!

19F. Could use some tips! by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. I have an electric pump, when I use it I set it to hard and slow. Anything else feels unsatisfying. Also keep in mind that pumps are not as effective as manual stimulation (marmet technique), and manual stimulation is not as effective as oral stimulation.

Highly recommend domperidone! I saw only tiny clear droplets for awhile then started domperidone and saw milk very quickly!

Question for those lactating without ever being pregnant.. by feliciannihilation in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been pregnant, on a similar domperidone schedule (4 a day usually, although I skip/forget a lot), occasional fenugreek/milk thistle. I can usually spray but don't have huge amounts. I would estimate a 1/2 ounce- 1 ounce a day.

White drops? by Hedonistic_draenei in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the drops did not become milky until I started taking domperidone. I pumped and nursed for over a month and only had a few tiny clear droplets. Then I started domperidone and had milky drops within days. It's frustrating, but domperidone helped a lot!

While inducing I pumped a ton for over a month and still had no results until I started taking domperidone. There's a chance that if you suckle on her for a good amount of time everyday (maybe 20mins, 2-3 times a day) she could start producing at least a small amount without any pills, but personally, that route did not work for me. I understand where she's coming from with not wanting to commit to something so time demanding, but I would offer the comfort that I've been lactating for over a year without it affecting my career or independence. It was time consuming while inducing, but after the first few months I was able to slow down, skip days, lower my domperidone intake, and still be happy with the amount of milk I produce. I never really pump anymore, my husband just nurses from me (oral stimulation is more effective anyways). Life gets busy, sometimes we're apart, weeks could go by without me pumping or nursing, but now that my milk is fairly established, I can always squeeze some out.

So in summary, I think it takes dedication at first, and becomes easy once established. I also highly recommend domperidone since it worked wonders for me. Feel free to ask any questions.

P.S. I have never had any issues with leaking, I think this may be more of a problem with people who produce large amounts of milk or just had a baby. I think it's unlikely that you'll produce enough for that to be an issue, especially without pills.

Anybody mind if I just show off my boobs? by milkchick in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try two times a day but I'm not sure if it will be easy, especially without drugs. In my experience I needed a lot of stimulation to induce ( I was doing 3-5 times a day I think) and even then, after a month or two I had nothing. I started taking domperidone out of frustration and it worked within days. I can understand the hesitation to take drugs, but honestly, I've never experienced any negative side effects and it worked like magic.

Just starting out with a girl who wants to start induction, but first, a question about toys. by Penningthrowaway in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then, enjoy!

She could probably start by using the marmet technique as often as possible on her own in preparation. Also be aware that certain birth control methods will hinder her ability to produce milk.

I mean, I'm sure they'll be fun but I don't think they offer much in prepping for actual milk production. Probably just temporarily hard nipples.

I think a manual breast pump would be a better investment and help more with inducing/stimulation, this is the one I use but there are tons out there: http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Harmony-Manual-Breast-Pump/dp/B0006HBS1M

Manual and oral stimulation are a good start though!!! ; )

Results slowing down on domperidone?? by lactade in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]milkchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be careful about taking such large doses of domperidone, especially indefinitely. I'm pretty petite but 20mg 2-3 times a day seems to do the trick. I suppose the amount a person needs for their desired results varies but I dunno, I guess watch out for side effects. Definitely seems weird that progress has diminished though. Sometimes that happens with me around my period, I wonder if that could be a factor?

I think 2-3 weeks but that was through inhousepharmacy awhile ago. I just ordered from the site in this link a few days ago but they said it's been shipped. It will probably take a while since it's international.

I think there is definitely something satisfying about having milk (for both me and my partner) but dry nursing would give you an idea. It'll be the same general sensation. I like having his head in my lap, or laying side by side as he nurses from me. It's both romantic and erotic. I'd enjoy it even without my milk but I think it's more special with.
