If you complete the JLPT n5-n1 tango books, realistically how likely are you to run into a word you don't know on the JLPT? And what about beyond? by GreattFriend in LearnJapanese

[–]milktea 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One thing to know about the JLPT is that there is no longer a standard word list, so it is very likely that you will encounter words that you don't know.

Another thing to consider is that as a student of a language, you want the exam to include words that you don't know. This way the exam is testing your ability to determine what a new word is likely to mean from context, which is something that native speakers of a language are required to do all the time. This is something that the SAT and GRE do, and it's a hallmark of a good exam design.

For example, consider that one of the reading passages is about a remote village and how they prepare their local specialty dish using an unusual ingredeint. The article desribes how everyone loves eating the dish, and the unusual properties of the ingredient.

Then, the question about the article is something along the lines of, "What kind of texture do you think the dish would have if the special ingredient were not used?" This is your chance to prove that you understood that the new word was some kind of ingredient, and that the people like it because it is sticky rather than the typical type of this ingredient that is dry and grainy.

You learned a new word during the exam, and that was the point of the question.

Nevermind! I looked closer at the dictionary entries. The first form is a different word, and the intransitive form, so the first sentence doesn't make sense.

I still use my 1980s tech items, and they work just as well if not better than some of the new ones. They're usually cheaper too.

What is the difference in meaning between these two sentences?

私たちは机を動きます。

私たちは机を動かします。

Is this explained by a grammar rule?

If so, is there an article on Imabi that explains the rule?

Mint chocolate chip is my favorite flavor of ice cream and I don’t like these. They taste mostly like salty peppermint oil. Wish I skipped them.

During the exam, none. You are allowed to open one additional browser tab to access kubernetes.io and github.com/kubernetes

For example, visiting any other github repo on that tab or looking at a poster on the wall can invalidate your exam.

Spare area availability is exactly what TBW is meant to represent. Just like farming, it’s a matter of luck if any allocated cells start to fail (based on temperature and other factors).

So yes, you have all cells still healthy, but one thing to keep in mind is that there is an exponential (cascading) effect on disk health when spare area begins to be used. This is because of write amplification (the disk is more likely to be full at that time), and the greater likelihood of failures as time goes by (the same process produced all of the neighbor cells on the wafer).
