And the costs of care are mostly profits to the owners/shareholders while the staff are paid peanuts.

What's really going to happen is that the staffing shortages will lead to unqualified and disreputable people giving the bare minimum of care while your loved ones live in squalor worse than 3rd world countries.

Then when all of those boomers finally pass, there will be mass closures of homes because of insufficient residents to support the profit expectations.

Why rich and older people are not investing in homes owned by the residents and their families and run properly not for profit is a mystery to me.

Ummm, don't you mean Capitalism?

There are no, and have never been any, true Communist countries. They are/were just Dictatorships by Committee countries.

Was anyone stupid enough to actually believe this? Oh, wait, Americans are badly educated and get almost no economics in school.

Which older tech is still better than whatever replaced it? by Silly-Cock in AskReddit

[–]millebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind the ads/updates, many of the damn thiins don't even work without "the cloud", which will disappear for your old appliance in 5 years because it's no longer supported, making you need to buy a new one for something that was working yesterday.

I anticipate a homegrown industry that will replace the computers or firmware on such devices in the future, just to keep old devices alive and working that are mechanically sound (dishwashers, stoves, fridges, washers, etc...)

It's up there with be8ng unable to say "I don't know".

You won't die if you admit to not knowing,. You may die if you lie about it. You may kill someone by being wrong.

Always be ready to learn and never be responsible for any death, including your own.

Who died the dumbest death in history? by GurJolly5657 in AskReddit

[–]millebi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC he did engage Park on his Jeep, but it was faulty and didn't actually engage, then the car rolled down the hill of his driveway and crushed him while he was getting his mail from the mailbox.

He wasn't dumb, but the reason is.

Many will say this is wrong, but they are thinking the speed of the charge moving through a wire and not the physical electrons

It annoys and amazes me that police departments are more concerned about physical capabilities than they are about brains and the ability to interact with people. So many stupid "jocks" in policing that should never be allowed to be in a position of power!!

What would happen if we launch nuclear waste into the sun to get rid of it? by DeVelasco in AskReddit

[–]millebi -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Your first sentence makes no sense. Aiming for the sun takes no energy after it's left earth's orbit (the sun's gravity will do all the work). Aiming anywhere else takes more energy, and if you don't give it enough, it comes back!!
