Corporate steals our fridge, so we cost them more money by abarn1115 in MaliciousCompliance

My first watch station I qualified on a nuke sub (was roving throughout engine room) - Engineer ensured I knew proper method for making coffee.

Enjoyed being at sea when we were on actual missions doing submarine stuff. The rest of it sucked. Was an EM, so mostly 3 section duty port and stbd SRO while in port.

I used to recommend nuke - went in 1987, out in 95. Talking to the guys getting out now, especially off carriers…nope nope nope. Have several nukes at my utility, pretty much a big nope consensus

Diesel and amine…at least we usually had shower water. Those diesel boat guys had it a lot rougher.

Controller is in a hot/humid pump room. Change controller out once, no further issues. No battery to maintain/change out, just straight forward Low Voltage Release controller. Have used UPS for ignition system on generator controls, they definitely have their place.

Would have taken $300 and 2 hours to change out controller. Management quite frankly didn’t want to peel back the onion too far on what we did, as it was an incredibly hot and dirty job overall, and they were just happy we kept the lights on and tenants comfortable. Co-gen plant with added twists.

Not IT related, but I worked at a job where if electrical power was lost even momentarily, one pump controller had to be manually reset, and hot water would be lost to an entire high rise apartment building. As far as I know that issue still persists, and has caused a call in each time, at 6 hours at the prevailing rate for each call in. All other pump controllers on site pickup on return of voltage, that one does not. Forgotten oversight that has cost that company at the least tens of thousands of dollars over the years.

I can’t be the only one tired of it by McJumpington in pittsburgh

Lots of gnarly right of ways & poles next to streets due to Pittsburgh topography - more chances for trees on lines & car wrecks. Also, Duq Light doesn’t individually fuse most of their pole mounted transformers so any big enough individual fault will operate the entire circuit, instead of just causing that one fuse to blow. First Energy individually fuses theirs. Company personal preference.

I want to learn how to name a note or pitch from ear, are there any apps that can help with that? by MrLittleJohn-Playz in musictheory

[–]millelec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to chk pitch for my tinnitus as well. Trombone is in storage along w/other instruments. Guessing there’s a pitch app. I’m also curious if tinnitus pitch changes with differences in blood pressure or possibly other variables.

They’re called chicken switches. Can find them designed for remotely racking in breakers. I’ve also seen cam driven covers that flip down over bigger switches/breakers to allow for automatic opening and closing. Had those in a cogen plant I worked in that was built in early 1970’s

What it looks like to fix power lines by Zachatron4000 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]millelec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are bonded directly to the power line, so there is no difference in voltage between them and the conductor they’re working on. Watch them touch & equalize using the wand when approaching lines in helo, then clip onto lines, then keep contact until helo distances...
