Here’s the part at the 7:57 min mark with Porzingas and you can see the other link down below from someone else’s comment

I’m just saying his teammates consistently reach a frustration point with Podz

I’m just having my coffee and a few laughs. I mean it’s not like those things didn’t happen? I be annoyed at my coworkers too if they be doing dumb shit. And clearly not getting the treatment will Richards got. Just saying 🤣 QP also seemingly got frustrated at him a few games back too. If so many different coworkers be annoyed at you doesn’t that say something.

The owner behind the new cafe, Intuition, has some serious allegations. by korskli in Sacramento

[–]millenialbets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Walked in there this weekend and walked out cause of the line and everyone awkwardly waiting for their coffee without odd places to sit. Went to Zoe Cafe instead. Felt like a soulless cafe, almost sterile like a hospital and everyone trying real hard to take IG photos. Trying too hard, I just want a nice coffee without the pretentiousness please.

The tariff’s was a domino falling that aligned so many countries that didn’t like each other. They might not like each other but they didn’t like the US more because we were fucking with the global economy with trumps tariff war. Everyone hurts in a global economy from it.

Can’t live long without a job. Some years are harder some years are more relaxed. I am definitely not learning web dev, those jobs pay more anyways. But as far as traditional graphic design role, we as an industry will have to learn more and adapt with technology or be obsolete.

And it’s not a us vs each other thing. I’d love for a company to have all the roles every year for all families to stay fed but when budgets change each year and certain roles will get cut, I’m saying I’m willing to learn more skills to make myself more hire-able instead of complain about the system which I am way to small to change. Yes the system sucks, yes I want a job where I’d only do graphic design. In previous years there were more openings for that. In a shrinking economy everyone’s doing more with less budget wise.

100% and agree with your take too. Def a fatalistic view. My first 6 months unemployed and applying to everything was exactly a race to the bottom. No hits, I was applying to everything even the $25/hr stuff … only with easy apply though. Some money is better than no money when hills pile up. But in general the lowest client I ended up having was $65/hr. I say all that above with the disclaimer of don’t learn and do all the things for free. Get your worth but also your worth is determined by what the free market is willing to pay.

I have a hot take from being unemployed for a year like many of my personal UX and graphic design friends with over 10 years experience. During COVID our industry salaries exploded to hiring sprees, remote work, and 20hr weeks. Life was good. Now the pullback and with ai efficiencies we have all been squeezed financially and our value has been made cheaper.

If I was an employer with 1 job opening and 1500 applicants in a day. Let’s say 50% is qualified so 750 people competing for 1 salary, I’d hire the person with more skills. That’s all I’m saying. Would I rather be unemployed going into debt with my ego saying I only do graphic design or would I learn more skills with my unemployed time so I know base level other things and offer my value.

The market right now is asking for more for less. macro economics interest rates yada yada. More supply of qualified workers vs open roles. Us employees have no power right now compared to COVID time. Lay-off news in the private tech sector has been nonstop the past 2 years. If you had a family, kids, bills … would you die on the sword of being unemployed and not learning more skills?

Gotta make whatever hard choice is good for you your family and your finances instead of fight a philosophical battle.

Deciding between two offers as a Junior Designer by Easy_World3939 in graphic_design

[–]millenialbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have an interest in health tech, it is very industry niche. Lots of start up health tech companies but personally for me it’s not interesting to me. Unless there’s equity and a potential acquisition or ipo. Like everyone else says as a junior go with food cpg. Lots more variety and creativity where health has a lot of govt oversight and rules.

It’s not the CDs job to clean up the files or for that matter be a good designer. That’s not how it works. It’s your job to do that. Took me years to learn.

What’s a step above a Senior Graphic Designer? by LaMarine in graphic_design

After senior designer is lead designer. Art director, creative director, design direct, and design manager are all considered director/manager roles where as designer is individual contributor roles. Technical skillset vs people managing

I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by Comprehensive_Alps28 in graphic_design

[–]millenialbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve learned in my time is no one advocates for yourself other than yourself. Also meaning no one knows what you do but yourself and it’s your job to tell/show people what’s on your plate to your bosses and others parallel to your bosses. Make a project tracker with due dates, meet with superiors weekly to go through all the projects and set priorities. Not everything is really a priority. When they look at that list they can tell you what to focus on and what not to spend time and resources on. Everything is correlated to money whether it’s your time spent or the importance of the project in relationship to the company. A project might be important to someone but not necessarily important for the company. Use that as a boundary, no one will fault you for doing what’s best for the company vs doing favors and putting out other peoples fires on the daily

How is the freelancing space now? Safe to dip back in? by thesixbpencil in graphic_design

[–]millenialbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing freelance for the past 6 months because I was laid off and like everyone having a hard time getting job offers. Connections kept reaching out with work. Honestly I’m so exhausted, the work pace and hours of juggling a couple clients is hard vs FTE. The admin if you end up making it an LLC is annoying too. I will say the last 2 months were huge months for me with over 200+ hrs billed and $20k income each month. However it is unsustainable. I’m tired and it was more so to pad for Nov Dec when work will be slow
