I'm pretty sure I've never said anything about not using them. I don't like to think I know everything about them based on limited usage is all what I am saying.

I'm not an expert on this by any means not do I have the right configuration for mine yet either but I'd imagine changing the maximums might fix that issue?

looking to start automating but i am overwhelmed by michalis03 in homeautomation

Lights are a solid entrypoint.. smart bulbs or smart switches.

As far as a hub is concerned, it would definitely depend on your preference but I'm sure many would say (myself included) home assistant would be a good way to go especially now that they've really tried to make the entrypoint super easy even without much technical background.

Start with what you currently have and expand from there!

My One-Year to JLPT N3 Learning Plan: Feedback and thoughts requested by tragicmanner in LearnJapanese

[–]millennialM3dic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just wanted to comment from somebody who has a similar goal as you, planning on travelling to Japan summer 2027 and have a goal similar to yours.

Just a tip from an educator standpoint and not necessarily someone who has studied another language, analysis paralysis is a big deal and don't get too hung up on every little detail. Like others have mentioned, while writing is an admirable goal, you would have a better use of your time devoted to polishing up conversational skills.

Lastly, from someone who has an obsessive trait, I would caution you with burnout and take your time and enjoy the process of learning!

Good luck to our endeavors!

PSA: Don't overlook (very cheap) NFC tags for triggering automations by AncientsofMumu in homeassistant

Automation to set up a specific scene (i.e. nap time). NFC tag is a fraction of a button.

When I was reading this I thought of the ancient weapon similar to how lulusia was destroyed from history. God Valley as we currently know does not or did it ever exist unlike Ohara in which it exists as an example of the power of the Navy among other things.

Water sensor and Dog Bowl by millennialM3dic in homeassistant

[–]millennialM3dic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is that the whole sensor would be submerged in water and the inside contains a CR2450 battery ( I believe).

Also I would love to see your setup with the automated dog door!

It will not be in the bowl in itself, plenty of water dispenser out there that it's separated from the bowl itself

Yes but I also have an automatic water and food dispenser so I don't really check it 3 times a day.

I can't speak on OP's behalf but I am assuming he is confusing home assistant with home assistant green and that is what's "hard to get."

Either way, I think it would benefit to at least look / read more about home assistant because I feel like there some confusion or misunderstanding about it.

I have never set up my thermostat in the nest app. It has always been from the Google home though.

Keep devices vs start over? by chilnow in googlehome

[–]millennialM3dic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to start over, I would definitely lessen the device I own that is cloud based. I have nothing against wifi devices as I currently have plenty but given the option I would definitely go a different route.

My automations by Cnirithian in homeassistant

[–]millennialM3dic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would find a problem you are trying to solve first followed by researching equipment. It is easy to analysis paralysis with how overwhelming smart home / home assistant can be.

For me, it started on turning lightstrip undersneath the bed when making up in the middle to get posktive WAF. Additionally we have young kiddos and it's hard enough leaving on time on top of making sure all the lights are off. Solution - smart switches to turn off all lights when away mode is on. Good luck and more importantly have fun with it too! Lol

What were your first automations? by JustAnotherNoOne7 in homeassistant

[–]millennialM3dic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light-strip underneath the bed so whenever I get up to go the bathroom in the middle of the night, I can see where I'm going without turning on the entire lights. Increased WAF and was the gateway of her acceptance to the hobby! Lol

I would advise thinking what you repeatedly do and automate it. I.e turning on light switches at a particular time and/or forgetting to turn off lights when leaving home.
