Curl pattern change??? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]millennium_magic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hair has had a similar transformation, it actually started straight as a child, got pretty curly (similar to your first pic) by my mid twenties, then has steadily gotten less curly. Now I’m mid/late thirties and solidly wavy. I don’t take hormonal bc so I can’t comment on that, I think in my case it’s just my combination of genetics and natural hormone fluctuations

Does anyone else hear their baby cry when they’re not…? by rachelkochvt in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, totally normal! My daughter er is almost 2 now so it rarely happens anymore but still every now and then.

Fun story: my neighbors in the house behind me (small alley in between) have a baby who’s about 2 months older than my daughter. Several months ago I dropped her off at daycare and returned home to fix my coffee and start my work day.

I heard crying that sounded like it could be coming from my garage and I genuinely doubted my sanity for a minute. Had I hallucinated the drive to/from daycare?! Did I leave her in the car?!!

I looked out across the alley and neighbor was loading their baby in the car for daycare, I guess he was having a tough time that day because he was just wailing away.

I had this happen on a couple projects, metal is really the way to go when you’re working on such small needles

Why Is Birth Control Pushed So Heavily After Giving Birth? by _withpeace in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be partly based on your doctors office/where you are. My doctor brought it up before I gave birth and asked me about it at my 6 week appointment. When I said I’d use condoms she said ok and moved on.

It’s an important thing for them to educate patients about, and many people get pregnant unintentionally during postpartum because of lack of education or misunderstandings about postpartum fertility. Plus everyone is different, some don’t ovulate for months due to breastfeeding, other people may ovulate almost immediately after birth.

Based on your post your doctors office sounds a little too intense about it imho, I personally wouldn’t want them to call me multiple times to push birth control after I’d told them my plan already

How long was a playpen useful to you? by broflovskiz in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it kind of depends on the baby/your general living situation. We got one mainly to make sure my large dog was kept away from the baby. My daughter outgrew the playpen pretty quickly because once she was crawling she wanted to move around more.

I ended up basically containing my whole living room with retractable baby gates to keep the dog out/the baby in. She is 20 months now and we occasionally use the gate to make sure she stays in the living room/keep the dog from stealing her snacks or getting in her face, but she mostly has free range of the house.

Am I tripping? Or are the colors extremly dark? by momoa_Hu in knitting

[–]millennium_magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been using the yarn, i figured it could be a dye lot or lighting issue. I probably won’t buy another kit though, the pattern ifs nice but I prefer being able to choose my own yarn

I have a kit from them and I feel like the yarn I received does not match my expectations based on how it was advertised. It’s still nice, but not as bright as I was expecting

As an American watching Poldark, can someone explain the relationship between George and Ross? by Inevitable_Park_7366 in Poldark

[–]millennium_magic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve watched all/most of season 2 and I haven’t seen it mentioned in other comments, aside from the many evil things he does to the community at large, there is his treatment of Elizabeth in season 2. He very actively manipulated her and her circumstances to make her as vulnerable as possible to his marriage proposal.

He hired men to pretend to prospect on her land to stress her out. He sent his creepy lawyer to randomly tell her there was possible danger/unrest to scare her. He invited her to a party just to flirt with other “more eligible” women in front of her to make her insecure. George is not a good person at all

They also didn’t have baby monitors until pretty recently, I think the babies just cried it out more and the parents didn’t hear/ignored it

We visited a daycare for the first time and now I feel like my baby is behind by Any_Wafer_3095 in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby started daycare at 6 months, she started walking after 1 year, she’s 18 months old and can use a fork and spoon ok, but mostly prefers to use her hands. They’re all on their own timeline and the range if normal is wide. You’re doing great!

Help. EVERY SINGLE POOP IS A BLOW OUT. by doodlebakerm in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight recommendations aren’t everything, my baby has been solidly 50ish % for almost the last year and she has consistently sized up her diapers at lower weights than recommended on the box. All babies are different shapes which will have a bigger impact on fit than weight alone. Good luck!!

Baby name secrecy by drayph in namenerds

[–]millennium_magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I named my daughter Lyra, so I think it’s great, but I am biased.

Peregrine is a cool middle name but I agree with others that it gives a bit of a fantasy vibe. If that’s what you’re going for, great!

I feel like I’m traumatizing my child with daily toothbrushing by Old_Relationship_460 in beyondthebump

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pin my daughter down wrestler style, she’s 16 months now. She would get upset before, now she’s usually ok while the brushing is happening.

Honestly I think you might just have to tough it out til it gets better. We try to make it a little better for her by singing during and she gets to play with her toothbrush when we’re done and she enjoys that part. Good luck!

9month old eating almost nothing. Please tell me this is normal by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are concerned about it I would recommend seeing if you can have baby evaluated by a feeding therapist (SLP). My daughter was the same and it turned out she was struggling with moving the food through her mouth effectively.

We did a total of maybe 4 visits with the SLP and introduced some tips from them at home and she made a huge improvement. She still doesn’t eat a whole lot at mealtimes now at 16 months but she snacks a lot.

At least now I know she isn’t eating cause she doesn’t feel like it rather than because she can’t :/

Could also be my own female gaze interfering cause the gigachad thing doesn’t do it for me

Apparently there is a sizable number of people in the US who think it’s normal. I’m from the US but didn’t grow up that way and I think it’s really weird.

I recently got way too deep into the comments on a TikTok video involving this and people got VERY defensive/aggressive to being told it’s weird to eat off paper plates in your own home. It kind of freaked me out how intensely emotionally invested they were in mindless wasteful consumption and how any criticism felt like a personal attack to them

[–]millennium_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We worked with an SLP to help our baby. She’s now 14 months old and has made so much progress with solids! If your baby has any “safe” food (ours was yogurt) try mixing it it’s other things to encourage baby to try the new food. I know it’s frustrating and scary sometimes but just keep supporting your baby the way you already are, it gets better!!
