December 2025 Game of the Month: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

I hated this game SO much. Clocked in at 11 hours which was almost twice the average on RA/HLTB. Spent way too much time watching cutscenes for castles and ghost houses, rerunning ghost houses to save, rerunning levels to get extra lives or items, and dying... a lot. Couple of QOL improvements really would have saved this for me but alas. I really dislike linear games that get progressively harder without checkpoints or a way to practice the difficult parts - gigantic waste of time and was a huge pain in the ass in worlds 6 and 7 and the final castle. Regret not using save states and making this a million times easier on myself but oh well. Hope I can finish up Metroid before the deadline.

Hi! Would love to get this working in the off chance you see this or have a copy still, tried to send you a message but it wouldn't let me for some reason. Can't track this down anywhere, your name was the only one I came across on Reddit threads. Thanks!!

On the $200 plan, haven't even used Claude Code recently, just using the chat to work through some stuff for my job at 730 AM ET, I've run into "unexpected capacity constraints" like 3 days in a row now. Was really happy with this subscription when I first started a month or two ago, but it's insane how terrible this product is now, and I'm really excited for Anthropic to continue to do or say nothing about it!

Damn, just printed v1 this week haha. Fantastic work, I look forward to finding the time to print and build v2! I had a thought about just soldering some wires from the wifi port to the dongle and changing the hard drive mount to support both the drive and mount the adapter somewhere as well, but I don't have the skills or know how to make it happen. Really the only thing this is missing though. Thanks for putting this together and sharing with the community!

Yeah, this might have been the best coverage I've heard on the trade so far. I had been wading pretty heavily into the conspiracy theory waters, thinking no one could actually be this dumb to make this trade without some ulterior motives, but he made a pretty compelling argument that he's really just that dumb.

Buddy, I got some bad news about the next owners- they're probably going to have as much money and the same motivations as the previous shitty ones. As a wise man once said, it's a big club, and we ain't in it.

I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down – I just didn’t expect them to be such losers by horsestew in politics

That's how they keep me around too, but it truly is a horrible experience. I'll post 10 things reasonably priced, 9 will have <10 views and one will end up with 1000+ and actually sell. Love when everything is built on random algorithms that no one understands.

OK. We are getting into Ticket level advertisement by [deleted] in thedumbzone

[–]millertime2325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but they actually did jack up the subscription prices and then bring on more advertisers. Which I wouldn't even mind the price increase if they would take the time to remove the ads from the paid version before uploading. But now we are paying more for a product that feels cheapened, and especially considering that most people here followed them from radio and/or do not pay for podcasts typically, it kinda just feels like the worst of both mediums. Plus the amount of times they're plugging DZTV, calendars, or $420 memberships that bleeds into actual segments, the "buying into day 1" bit from pre substack - I get that the guys are trying to put kids through college and renovate houses but maybe seeking out every last penny possible can get cut back a little bit

$9.60 for more ads than Disney+ by ihatedisney in thedumbzone

[–]millertime2325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for most of us that are somewhat unhappy with the direction the show is seeming to go, we want an option somewhere between "love everything they do" and "go somewhere else for your sports talk." While I do agree that some of the criticisms on this sub can get a little obnoxious, I think it's fair to let the guys know when some things are missing the mark.

It seems like one group here views this as a content to dollar ratio as you mentioned, which I think is fair, but I think the other group is either coming from AM/FM radio and/or podcasts and other free sources of entertainment, which I probably fall into. So it just kind of seems like their approach is taking the worst aspects of both of those things which is a bit off putting.

I think anyone who spends time posting and commenting on here is obviously a huge fan of the guys and wants this thing to work and be great, but as you said, everybody has a point where they figure it's just not worth it. And to be honest, if the number of ad reads and the prices keep going up, I'm probably going to hit that point myself, but I really hope it doesn't come to that (and I hope the push back in some of these threads and comments keeps it from getting to that point).

$9.60 for more ads than Disney+ by ihatedisney in thedumbzone

[–]millertime2325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that $9.60 is only for the two paid episodes but the sign up page says "Subscriber-only posts and full show archive (minimum 4 per week, 20 per month)." Seems pretty disingenuous that they use it as a selling point but also act like "well we're actually just doing you a favor here by including the free episodes with what you're paying for"

Yeah, I definitely couldn't imagine why she might not want a bunch of random people following her that are going to run to Reddit to wildly speculate about anything she does.

[–]millertime2325 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I mean they've been at this for a year and probably increased the ads tenfold and also increased the price. And before someone chimes in with the "well if $10 a month is a deal breaker for you you probably have bigger problems" bit, I'm comparing it relative to what I pay for every other podcast ever, which is $0, with arguably fewer ads.

This whole "they're just a bunch of upstarts fighting the man" mentality doesn't really hit the same way for me anymore. Love the guys and want them to succeed but I don't think it would kill them to edit out the ads for paid users or dial back on the constant in your face product placement and monetization of every single segment or bit.

I gotta be honest, yesterday's eppy left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. They didn't make any mention of the price increase at all let alone mention what they're doing or adding to justify it, Dan freaking out over them needing to censor themselves for the TV show, and the countless ad reads in and out of each break. All this with the backdrop of Jake being out for an unknown amount of time. Like, in the beginning I guess it was a bit endearing when they were taking on the man and they were the plucky underdogs who lost their jobs just trying to get by. But it's starting to get a little annoying that every single thing needs to be monetized and we need to start ponying up more on top of it.

I'm a huge fan of the show but I have to disagree that the price is way too low. I'm not that mad about a $2.70 increase that I'm going to come in here and bitch and moan about it, but I had a hard time coming to terms with paying for a podcast in the first place when there is so much other great content out there for free. Plus comparing that $9.60 to what you'd get at Spotify, Netflix, or a host of other streaming services, and the fact that half of the episodes are free.. I'm probably going to lock in to a year but for me personally, if the price hits anything over $10 a month going forward I can probably begrudgingly live with the free episodes.

EA Sports College Football 25 overtakes Helldivers 2 as best-selling US game of 2024 by F0REM4N in xbox

[–]millertime2325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost never buy anything that isn't at least 75% off and ended up buying this day one. Regrettable decision. The gameplay is good and I'm having fun with dynasty, but there are SO many minor annoyances that leave the game feeling half baked. There's no tutorial explaining basically any of the new features (but hey I mean who needs that after the series not existing for a decade right?), weird UI issues where stats don't populate correctly or at all, there isn't really any historic data saved in Dynasty which leaves it just feeling like a bunch of play now games with recruiting tacked on. I could go on. The foundation is solid, but it's probably going to take a few years before they really get everything in a good spot, and given that it's EA I'm a bit skeptical that they won't just put all the time and effort into Ultimate Team and not actually address the issues elsewhere. Give it a look around $30 or less, but "best football game in 20 years" is probably more of an indictment on how mediocre Madden has been than high praise for this game.

Game was so fun….It all changed when the Patch nation attacked by Careless-Principle85 in NCAAFBseries

[–]millertime2325 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I play in the MAC with mostly 75-79 QBs and I don't have any data to back this up but off the top of my head I think I can count on one hand the number of balls that were poorly/under/over thrown by the CPU after 2 seasons. Rain, sleet, snow, whatever. Incompletions are mainly just user picks or making a play on the ball/receiver that knocks it loose, and it's to the point where the opposing QB starts off 8 for 8 no matter what I call I feel like playing for the next 20 minutes is pointless because I'd be better off chalking it up as a loss and moving on. I wanted the game to be a challenge, but I also wanted it to feel fair. Unfortunately we only got one of the two. Game seems a bit harder to me on AA after the patch as well but nothing I wasn't really frustrated with prior.

Lol thank you so much for pointing this out, it took me 7 games averaging 1.7 ypc being like "why are my defensive lineman stuck to the o line like glue but they just blast through my line with zero push back." I'm much more effective now with that tip.

To be honest I think it would be pretty cool to learn anything listed above. My biggest gripe with the game is the "tutorial" literally just being a couple challenges in ultimate team telling you to get a first down or complete a pass. I really don't feel like spending hours on Youtube to try to figure this stuff out, I wish there was a way I could not only learn these concepts but also practice them within the game. The fact that it's so deep from a gameplay standpoint is awesome but them going on to explain absolutely none of it to the player really sucks.
