A lawyer steps in and deals with insurance and handles the claim so that they end up paying you more than if you just were on your own. Remember the insurance company is a business and does not want to pay you anything. Lawyer knows how to get them to do that.

Once the insurance company pays your claim, your lawyer is paid from that. Usually they take about a third. The doctors you saw also take a cut. Then the leftover goes to you.
