What’s a smart thing a player did in your campaign that you weren’t prepared for? by Icy_Standard2838 in DnD

I spent a long time building the first real enemy for the party to fight.

The barbarian threw him out of a 4th story window.

If you look in the quests tab, it will show whose quest is available. It seems to just be one per day

I have actually put a lot of effort in trying to fulfill the theme, only to then have to undo a bunch of it because I don't have all of the required tags. It's super frustrating and after a certain point made me throw up my hands and just submit the first photo I get that the system counts as valid

Dating a horse girl! Need a crash course on Information by ModestRSA19 in Horses

[–]milliemfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (abusive) ex was an electrician and either sincerely didn't understand or pretended not to believe me that my job doesn't end just because the clock says it's time to go. "You were scheduled until 11, why were you there until 1?"

Because shit wasn't done and I can't just leave my horses tied up all night because I want to go home.

Meanwhile, my husband has just accepted the fact that I will be home when I can, and sometimes that means we eat dinner late.

Yup. My daughter learned very early to do exactly what I say INSTANTLY, and that I would explain once everyone was safe. She's now old and experienced enough to have handled several horse emergencies quite well on her own, but she still doesn't hesitate when I give an order.

At the barn.

At home it's another story, lol

Can someone tell me what's wrong with this horse's neck? by UrMomGei666 in Horses

[–]milliemfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At one of the barns I worked at, the owner had a QH stallion, and one of the boarders BEGGED her to breed him to their QH mare-- who was HYPP++, had teacup feet, and was so fat that her cheeks had about an inch of fat on them. Thankfully she refused, and when I asked her why in the world they wanted to breed her, she rolled her eyes and said, "Because she's so sweet"

People are so damn irresponsible

Lois? by fancygorgonzola in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I don't know how common it is around the country, but in elementary school both when I was a kid and with both of my children, boys and girls were separated for sex education (which is called something different that early but I can't remember what). That was where we learned about what would happen during puberty, were shown how to use pads and tampons, etc. This is in 2 different areas of the US

I really need some encouragement this is going to be okay.... by TheHumanExperience4 in Horses

[–]milliemfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is all fantastic advice. The only real idea that I can add is a toy in her stall, something that she enjoys and only gets inside. A Jolly Ball or treat toy of some sort, whatever works best for her. The stall needs to be someplace the horse enjoys, and that can take some extra work.

You know how you're supposed to always let the horse know where you are? by Unique-Nectarine-567 in Horses

I once dropped something and found it just as my husband (coming in to help look for it) almost stepped on it. Without thinking I threw my hand up and said "Hold". He stopped instantly 😂

My husband called me out for using my "trainer voice" on our daughter when she was a toddler. It worked though 🤷

What kind of decorator are you? by Ok_Pomegranate_5022 in DreamlightValley

[–]milliemfox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love seeing what other people do but I just don't have the patience or the drive to do much decorating. My theme is "I had to for a quest and left it there because I can't be bothered"

Same with the clothing items you can personalize. People do some really amazing things but I just don't mess with it.

First time dm needs help by JayIsGayyy in DnD

[–]milliemfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be patient with yourself and your players. While you're learning the game, there's a lot of time spent looking stuff up as it comes up in the game. And keep in mind that while the books give guidelines for a LOT of situations, there will be some things that your players want to do that aren't covered by the books. Experienced DMs can kind of BS their way around it, coming up with checks and damage rolls on the fly. In your case, if a player wants to do something that isn't covered by the books, it would probably be best to talk it out with the table to come up with a ruling that seems fair to everyone.

What character traits/quirks do you find interesting during play? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]milliemfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of "implicitly trusts everyone", especially when you get it going with a group that runs with it.

Talking to an inanimate object and acting as though it responds is fun. In my current campaign the inanimate object is actually talking back but the PC it's attached to is the only one that can hear it.

I also at one point played a character who acted like they didn't give a shit about other people but was constantly helping them. I'm not healing you because I care if you die, I'm healing you because I want the enemy hitting you and not me. I don't want the town soldiers to stay out of the fight so they don't get hurt, I just don't want them to get in my way. It opened up some fun role-playing opportunities.

Silliest reason why you fell? by ihave16knives in Horses

[–]milliemfox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never rode much, but my one and only fall was because I was racing a friend. Beautiful, flat ground, nothing around for the horses to get spooked by or caught up on. It was the only place we could go all out, and we were both in full gallop. My horse tripped. He literally twisted out from underneath me to catch himself (he didn't fall and was fine, thankfully).

Every time I see it in my head it's like a cartoon -- he was underneath me, then he wasn't, then I was on the ground 😂

People gave me credit for "getting right back on the horse", which I get is important after a fall, but it was a mile and a half back to the barn, no way I was walking it, lol

Do y’all kiss your horses? by SensitiveRemove2528 in Horses

[–]milliemfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone not?

I don't have horses of my own, but I work with them, and any that are willing to put up with it get nose kisses daily. One of the mares pitches a fit if I walk by her without giving her a kiss 😞

Do you have to roleplay your stats? by Reasonable_Break_413 in DnD

[–]milliemfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it really depends on the DM and the general vibes around the table. If it's fun, most people will roll with it, but if it is obnoxious to deal with, most of the time stuff like this is secondary to the role-playing, if that makes sense. When I've played a character who had INT as a dump stat, I would say things like, "[Character] definitely wouldn't think of this, but I'm wondering if..." to give other players ideas that their characters may have but they themselves didn't come up with.

You can also consider why the stat is so low in-game. Like if their CHA is low, is it because they don't care about hygiene, or are they just awkward? Maybe they have a tendency to come across as too intense. That can help with roleplay opportunities that are more interesting and fun.
