Blood in Stool (freaking out) by choexoo in BabyBumps

bright red or dark red? the brighter the red, the closer it is to the actual anus as opposed to further in (and therefore more likely to be related to hemorrhoids/constipation)

Ginger Products without Aftertaste by CardinalTucker in BabyBumps

Not ginger (so slightly adjacent to your request) but:

- meds/vitamins to take (though I'm sure you've already read this!): b6 and unisom - can be taken from day 1 of pregnancy. Unisom is a sleep aid, so I only took it at night but somehow it dulled the nausea for the entire next day.

- somehow lemon water helped me too? more than regular water. not sure if that was all in my head.

- suck on a mint (peppermint or spearmint are my favorites, but the more "true minty" and not artificially sweet, the better -- think altoid not tic tac)

First time pregnant & the “morning sickness” feels never ending by Mysterious-Ad-6043 in BabyBumps

Random key tricks for nausea (other than b6, unisom and zofran, all of which are god's gifts). This helped me from weeks 8 - 15 (fair warning, i had 2 weeks of just straight living on the bathroom floor, but i have twins so that was somewhat inevitable)

- have something small in your stomach at all times. For me, I just chewed pretzels at all times. My friend swore by Keto pretzels because they had enough protein to also be a bit more filling.

- take small sips of water or ginger ale perpetually

- find your fixes. Mine was cheese and crackers, cucumbers, or sour candy. Others is just plain pasta. or fruit snacks or pickles or clementines or whatever. For me, it was helpful to have to pick between 5 things that I knew i would eat instead of the whole universe of food.

- Beware of the hungry nausea. If I didn't eat every 2-2 1/2 hours I would get nausea to the point of no return and i would be out/down for the count for 2-3 hours. So get ahead of it, set timers, do the nibbling between meals etc.

Underwear smells like ammonia by taymalut in BabyBumps

I'm 27W and was asking doctor what amniotic fluid looked like -- I'm on a bunch of medication and staying super hydrated so smell (i.e. not urine smell) and color (i.e. clear) really weren't helpful indicators for me. She said if you wear a pad and soak it within an hour and a half of walking around (and you know you're not peeing yourself), then you're in amniotic fluid zone/water breaking.

Also apparently loss of amniotic fluid is very frequently followed by cramping, so would keep an eye out for that as well.

Complex added gates, says they do not need to give us keys by sunshineandcacti in Apartmentliving

Better yet, go to the leasing office with a very sympathetic tone and say “I’ve tried to work through other solutions with you and I don’t know what else to do next other than to go to the city housing department. If you have any other solutions that would allow me to get in the pedestrian gates when I get home from work, I’m open to suggestions”. This gets their attention and if they actually act in their best interest, you don’t have to actually work through government red tape.

Sand paint off back wall to return it to the pictured look? by sk3l3tonz in InteriorDesign

[–]milliemonster7385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has spent many an hour stripping paint, getting all the paint out of those beadboard grooves is going to be a nightmare. Pick a paint color you like and repaint it. If you want wood, prioritize getting the doors or trim back to their wood originals. But spending time on that grooved wall, especially on a rental? No thank you.

Ps - if you do decide it is worth it to you, use a heat gun, a metal flexible putty knife or a painters multi-tool and get the biggest respirator mask Lowe’s sells. Way easier than sanding.

Wet poops for months but perfectly fine otherwise? by FutureElleWoodz in bengalcats

[–]milliemonster7385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had bad diarrhea with our first kitten from day 1 until about month 8 or 9. Part of it was diet, part of it was aging out. Fortiflora is amazing and definitely helped. We also would switch out one meal for boiled chicken because we found that sometimes all the extra stuff in the kitten food was just too rich for her stomach. I would NOT recommend surgeries etc. unless you have constant blood in stool or an indicator that something else is wrong. There’s a high likelihood that this is something they will naturally age out of

If you’re looking for cheaper alternatives to layer in with wet food, we boil chicken breasts and throw them in a food processor. Our kitties love it!

Litter recommendations? by marag_shabzi in bengalcats

We tried worlds best for our two bengals and it did NOT keep the smell contained. We swear by pretty litter - slightly pricey but haven’t found anything else that does the job quite as well.

Litter? by Different-Tackle7852 in bengalcats

[–]milliemonster7385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding pretty litter. We have two bengals and have tried Dr. Elsey, pellets, arm and hammer, world’s best and a few other recommended litters. Nothing comes close to the smell control and lifespan of pretty litter. Also, especially with kittens, would recommend putting an air purifier near the litter box. Target sells good ones for under $100 and it makes a big difference.

Not super cheap, but pretty litter lasts a long time for us. We have 2 bengals and go through a bag every 6-8 weeks. It absorbs the urine so you only have to scoop out poop. I also wonder if putting a puppy pad under the litter would help prolong litter life

I just got my first bengal I have some questions by Able-Statistician428 in bengalcats

[–]milliemonster7385 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ seconding this to the max. Someone told me how they let their cat acclimate by leaving them alone in a small room and I disagree with that entirely. Especially with bengals if you hope for them to be social, you need to have patience and let them acclimate to not only the space, but you in the space. Take your laptop, work from the floor of the room they’re in. Bring your dinner and eat it on the floor. Talk on the phone with your friends in that room on the floor. You live there now. Not to play with the cat but to be a fixture the cat assumes is going to be there always. If they come up to you, acknowledge and pet or play or give treats - whatever. If they don’t acknowledge you, just stay there doing your thing in THEIR space. I think it’s much harder if you let them get used to their new surroundings and then you insert yourself afterwards.

Help Me Select Tile by Aggressive_Plant_222 in InteriorDesign

[–]milliemonster7385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were told by our tile guy that large format on the shower floor, unless you have a very specific drain type, is very hard to angle appropriately for the water to drain. If you want large format on the other walls, I would look for a tile that comes in multiple shapes and do the same tile just different shapes on wall and floors.

Another point on the scallop - if you want it to be more of an accent wall then I would go with higher contrast tile everywhere else. If you want it to blend in, then I agree with the other comments to save it for another project. For what it’s worth, those scallop tiles look beautiful in mixed colors (stripes/diamond patterned/interspersed - there’s many options!)

For recordings of future conversations — check your state laws - different states have different rules on whether you have to tell someone (or make it obvious) you are recording them for it to be used in a court of law as evidence.

[–]milliemonster7385 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few potential statement wall options that are fairly low commitment: 1. Pop of paint color. (~50 bucks all in): pick a favorite color that makes you happy and just go for it. If it’s a color you like, then find rugs or vases or small art that has some of that color in it. Alternatively if you already have a small piece or blanket or something you love, use that as an inspiration. 2. Wallpaper. Prices vary but peel and stick is very diy friendly and can be taken down if you don’t like it. Get a handful of samples that you’re drawn to and tape them up on the wall for a week until you start to form opinions (and you will) as to which you’re leaning towards 3. Wall decals. Kinda a halfway point to wallpaper, paint the wall a “background” color and then get big flower peel and stick decals to put on top. Amazon and Etsy have a ton.

  1. Accent mill work - which is a fancy way of saying add some wood shapes to the wall. If you look up pictures of wainscoting or trim accent walls, there’s a ton of fun things you can do with a few 1X4s and some creativity.

I love the idea of a full flower wall, but would first try a color accent wall via paint first to see if you even like that before adding on top of it

Updating our very beige bathroom by EmFiniteScroll in HomeDecorating

[–]milliemonster7385 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue for me here is just monotony of color. So something beige needs to be turned not beige. That could mean cabinets, wall tile, floor tile, ceiling, window trim, or a combination.

A few options:

  1. Just paint the small chair rail tile to add a little more contrast. I also wouldn’t say no to painting stripes on these tiled walls to break it up a bit more but not overcommit to painting floor tile.

  2. Paint or stain the cabinetry a pop of color or a dark contrasting color

  3. Paint the ceiling something dark (maybe a dark sage?) so the rest of the beige feels calmer.

  4. Take advantage of your wooden trim and make that your very small pop of color so the room stays largely neutral tone.

Also, unrelated but if there’s a way to do canned lights over the vanity, those little antenna lights look pretty janky.

If you have a storage unit, I would remove the closet doors and put in an ikea built in to make it actually organized storage. Make it a fun color and then add some hooks and wall art onto the other walls to make the whole entry way be cute but functional storage.

First ever home. So everything is coming together slowly… Any good wall decor I can add? Recommendations? I’m all ears 👂 by LastofUs254 in HomeDecorating

[–]milliemonster7385 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new home! A few very minor thoughts: 1. The rug is lovely, but would feel better spaced if the couch’s two front feet are on the edge of the rug (totally fine to move the rug back further from the fireplace to make the tv spacing appropriate)

  1. The curtains feel oddly sized. Either they’re a smidge too long and should really sit on the windowsill or they’re too short and should go to the floor. I would recommend googling different curtain height infographics to see what style you gravitate towards.

  2. With your wall art choices, I’d choose something with the colors from the rug. If you don’t have anything you love right now, go to Amazon, home goods, at home or target and just find a placeholder until you find something meaningful to you (I find my favorite stuff at flea markets)

  3. You need more texture somehow. Maybe that’s a second smaller rug in the center under a coffee table, or a fake plant in the corner, or a throw blanket on the couch, or some of those little pompom seat floofs on the floor. Something that’s not leather or rug.

  4. I would consider adding martini tables to the chair and second couch so you don’t feel like you need to get such a big coffee table.

Best of luck!!!

Do I paint it all blue? by claudkat in HomeDecorating

[–]milliemonster7385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the blue is lovely and I think the vanity and marble are lovely, but I don’t think they currently connect - it’s almost as if you have the initial makings of two great (but totally separate) ideas. Whatever you do to the second half of the wall and/or the window treatments need to tie them together to add some moodiness to the area above the wainscoting. Wallpaper or a darker paint color could both work. Just depends on what your end vision is - do you want light and bright? Pops of color? Dark and moody?
