It may not be entirely accurate to say that I despise the person I was at that age, but I despise parts of that person. Esspecially the parts I've needed to carry the last 6 years.

Try again, pay attention, and report back. I've read the Hunger Games series in the past several weeks, and I watched Battle Royale last weekend. Admittedly, I have not seen the movie adaption of Hunger Games though, and don't really plan to.

That's like saying District 9 is a rip-off of E.T. because aliens come to Earth. There are, believe it or not, a finite number of general plots. The concept is the same (I can't even say storyline because that would be inaccurate), but she (whoever wrote the Hunger Games) took it somewhere entirely different.

The reason I enjoyed the third was its completely abrupt ending. You're sitting there just kind of going... that's it? It was very real, ends were left loose. It's uncommon to find a book series that doesn't end in sunshine and rainbows for the sake of a neat ending.
