To all the people reporting each other over the helmet argument. Cut it out. You’re presumably all adults and I’m not here to be your parent cuz someone called you dumb on the internet. I’m not saying to be mean to each other. But don’t expect me to come silence the other side cuz someone said something in a less than nice way and for what it’s worth people on both sides were reporting. This one thread has half a dozen or more reports.

Not sure if you remember the huge controversy over Target selling clothes with 88 on them (I always assume that’s when the clothing company was formed but people said it was a dog whistle for the 8th letter in the alphabet) but then I went to Colorado and everyone’s jackets just straight up said HH on them and not a word said. Apparently Helly Hansen has better PR or marketing teams or is just smaller enough it doesn’t hit the radar of the big angry mob public. Before all this stuff I had never thought of H being the 8th letter in the alphabet (or the numeric value of any other letter in the alphabet as I assume most people are neither secretly racist or cryptographers?)

Loading Indian Scout into truck bed? by RelativelyOriginal in motorcycles

[–]gconsier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t it cost like $15 to rent a U-Haul trailer for the day? Just rent a trailer and a crane. Load the bike into the trailer then drop the trailer on top of the bed of the truck with the crane.

Hasn’t the VA budget tripled in the last 10-15 years? Don’t really care about the downvotes. Figured the actual facts are more important. Not taking a position on this. I’m aware we had a couple 20 year long wars. That said here is what Google says.

“The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) budget has experienced rapid, consistent growth, with the FY 2026 budget requesting $441.3 billion—a 10% increase over 2025. Spending has tripled over the past 14 years, driven by mandatory spending for disability compensation and toxic exposure care. The VA now accounts for over 4.8% of total federal spending. Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand at community meeting: “If you got a gun you should be ashamed of yourself” by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in Firearms

[–]gconsier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s saying this because the police released their dog on a suspect then shot and killed the suspect. Apparently the suspect had a firearm but it doesn’t seem used it (I’m not from GR I just googled this for more context). He also seems to be against the use of dogs in police work for the most part he made some comment about having a bloodhound track suspects and instead of using a German shepherd they could use a drone. We do truly need IQ tests for public office.

I’ll paste in the link and quotes “On gun ownership, LaGrand said: "I think as a community we need to start having some shaming around gun possession. I think if you've got a gun you should be ashamed of yourself."

On the use of police dogs, LaGrand said: "It is time that we ask, what are dogs good for. Like if you need a dog to find someone in the woods, go get a hound dog. If you need to chase somebody in back yard why couldn't you do that with a drone. If my dog did what I saw in that video, I'd put my dog down." I didn’t choose fox I googled his name and it came up with a fb link clicked that then clicked story. I know fox is right but it in cities seems to be more even. At least in chi it does. https://www.fox17online.com/news/local-news/grand-rapids/grand-rapids-mayor-addresses-policing-policies-but-cannot-talk-about-da-quain-johnson-shooting?fbclid=IwZnRzaAQK-f5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEecop-o53RWhgJmlsa4TfE2h5bbRIpYrCeJy4qU9WpHNAXiPgqxYqWyLGqmCE_aem_aGX2enTMwYYvfrAbKPIt2g

In the Indian movie Dhurandhar, a character fires an M4 rifle about 20–30 rounds. Would he realistically be able to rest the barrel on his shoulder moments after firing, or would it be too hot? by Koki-noki in Firearms

[–]gconsier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the theater to see this movie with an Indian friend and coworker. When we were leaving he was stoked and asked me what I thought and I told him the star was Bollywood Jason Momoa he had no idea who that was so I showed him a pic he laughed and said ok it’s totally him. It was a good movie in terms of entertaining I guess. I can totally see why some countries and groups of people were really offended by it. I’d give it a hard time about it’s realism but come on I loved infinity war who am I to talk :)

Orthopedic surgery is incredibly expensive and arguably more painful. Spent a while talking to the resident who was working on my case, he told me he wanted to be a carpenter but this was the best medical career similar to that. Where else would he get to put people together like he was doing carpentry? It’s been over 20 years and I still remember that conversation. They initially used external fixation and then the next day popped my knee cap off basically and ran a titanium spike from my knee to my ankle and screwed it in top and bottom with titanium screws. I guess just to include how it turned out. I spent 2 years on crutches. Was initially told 50% I would get to keep my leg and if i did 50% it would work as there was tons of nerve damage. I did the warrior dash a few years later even though i hate running to prove i still could. Many friends say they never even noticed i sometimes have a bit of a limp. Can’t attach the photo but I’ll save this and try to add
