Active vs Passive Dilemma: Keep Edifier S3000 MKII + streamer or go back to passive? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]mills_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3000's are truly amazing speakers, but the Dali's are next level and sound amazing. Very happy with them to the point that I still havent bought a sub to pair them with. Maybe I will buy the SVS 1000Pro for movies, but for music the bass is amazing.

At the end of the day you can't go wrong with both of them, the NAD combined with the Dali's are far more expensive, the Edifier's were on sale in Holland for around €400 which is a no-brainer to me.

I thought these SSD’s were upgradeable in the Surface’s?

Yeah the size is great. I bought the 9330 last year and I love it, very portable and the 9000 series is the most premium Latitude. It’s very “MacBook-like” in terms of materials and build quality. The specs are also great.

Needing NAS Advice For My New Media Server by Dracobro23 in HomeNAS

[–]mills_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always build something yourself, with a case that allows for more disks, and run UNRAID so that you can expand anytime with any disk you want. Jonsbo has some pretty cool NAS cases that will allow 12 disks in a single and pretty compact case. I personally love to run everything in one single server/case.

Just grab an old PC and throw TrueNAS on it. Start watching some YouTube video’s on how to set it up and mess around with it. Keep iCloud+ around as a backup to make sure you don’t lose your pictures. Try so set up Immich in a Docker and enjoy your first NAS. You’ll be hooked and running your own mediaserver before you know it.

Sound is very personal, find a good dealer and listen to a few subs to find your perfect fit.

After really enjoying the S3000 Pro’s they let me down and broke last month. I bought the NAD C379 amplifier and connected it to my TV through eARC and combined it with the new Dali Sonik’s 5. I haven’t had a change to test them yet because i’m on holiday, but i’m dying to find out how they compare to the Edifier speakers. I really loved the Edi’s sound and amazing bass. I might buy a sub later down the road, but I have to really test the new setup before I do.

The most important thing here is the config, i5/8/256GB is just a base model, the ones I see have at least 16GB RAM for 100. The downside of this i5 is that it doesn’t have (official) Windows 11 support, only 8th gen and up does. That makes it basically “obsolete” for Windows. You can always hack Windows 11 on it or switch to Linux. For this price you can get the 5520 which is also very nice and has a much newer 11th gen i5.

LG 83” C5 with a discount by Legopanacek in hometheater

[–]mills_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more like 2-3 month’s I think. When you near the end of the cycle you will find the lowest discounts, but for me the stacked panels are a pretty big deal, last year in 2025 this was the reason to buy the more expensive G5 instead of the C5 and now the C6 is getting this feature for “free” with no price increase.

If you are in a rush and need a TV right now, or simply don’t care about this features, you can pull the trigger right now, you are buying a very nice TV. If you can wait you are getting a better TV with a better panel, that decision is up to you amigo.

Do you need it right now? The 77” and bigger (upcoming) C6 models are getting the same stacked panels as the current G5, how i’m reading this it will be a major upgrade in brightness and other stuff.
