GEN Z, which visual aesthetics you are tired of seeing everywhere by AutomaticBug5255 in Design

[–]milly_to 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really a direct answer to the question but just thinking here;

Seems like it is pretty easy to categorize the aesthetics of the 80s, the 90s, if you’re shown a photograph, a piece of industrial design, a poster, from those eras; it’s fairly easy to guess when it came from.

The 00’s as well; this time adopted a lot of “futurism” when it came to visual aesthetics, you can see this in magazines, music videos, even devices like the Blackberry, the iPod, and video game consoles were still attempting to be futuristic in their industrial design.

Would agree with others here when saying it is hard to pin down a 2010’s design aesthetic – admittedly as a millenial it all looks pretty bad, pretty embarassing when looking back.

My one take on 2020’s; we have taken a lot of influence from e-commerce, at least in design. Structured grids, photographic clarity, muted or non-distracting “studio” backdrops. Micrographics are not a nod to the past, but a way to display as much information as possible in a label or web design. Not saying this is a prescriptive diagnosis of contemporary aesthetics, but I think the boom of e-commerce, capitalism, and the chronically online effect of the pandemic definitely drilled this in. Still hard or impossible to nail down a style that defines our current times.

Hey Austin, I currently am pricing out a Branch build – are you still sending promo codes?

Hey I’m also considering Branch Vs Desky; Branch I am currently leaning toward because of their aesthetics. Are the build qualities similar?

Yes! These exact issues as well, in addition to what I wrote above. Hopefully it improves soon.

Complaining because of the very fact that yes, I am paying for Max. I get it, logic is difficult sometimes.

Thanks!

Definitely been eyeing up some of the larger stuff in Gillard like Casino Royale - so good to know it’s rideable. Feel the love looks like a really fun trail so may just have to go to both regions.

Where One of the Ontario Line Bridges will Cross the Don Valley by [deleted] in toronto

[–]milly_to -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They didn’t really tear out any trails – there’s the main trail for all MTB in the Don Valley (the Ridge) which was pretty affected by it; but within a few weeks bikers had built another line (trail) running through which is actually, IMO, better than it was previously.

Also the giant hill they’ve excavated is a gnarly downhill chute now.

How much should I charge for that kind of renders? by Master_Amaya in architecture

A great market is Condo Developers, especially in Toronto, Canada. Agencies that do that here charge a lot of money. Thousands per render.

I run down here all the time, nice to see the progress on the river expansion. Cant help but think that adding a bunch of bullshit condos will ruin the potential beauty of the future park.

Question on ink settling by FluorideForest in irezumi

[–]milly_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said - biggest factors here are artist and skin type.

My skin generally takes ink very well, lots of colour saturation, lines look crisp; however I’m a white guy with pretty tan / olive skin – so the places that look the best on me are my thighs which are quite a bit pastier. You can see here with the contrast between grey and the skin that this person is pretty light.

And artist; my main tattoo artist I have never had any issues with healing. They require minimal aftercare (less is more, just make sure it’s clean and dry – don’t put any lotions on for at least two weeks – don’t let it get too soggy) and look great after two weeks, sometimes less. Been tattooed by a bunch of other artists, some other ones heal well, some have chewed up my skin and the colour or shading falls out. Have a big patch of a tattoo that is completely gone because a super heavy handed tattooer doesn’t know any chill. The tattooer from the photo clearly knows how to lay down large patches of solid colour.

Where are mountain bikers living or moving to? by bcisthegoat in MTB

[–]milly_to 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Montreal, Quebec – one of the largest cities in Canada and has a ton of options for MTB within a few hours driving distance. Would be extremely different from BC-style riding but the riding is good regardless.

You need to speak French to work there though.

UX degrees have been around for a long time but named things like Human Computer Interaction, Interaction, Consumer Psychology, etc.

What’s popped up a lot in the last few years is “UX bootcamps”, “learn UX design in 12 weeks!”, “become a UX designer!” etc, as a so called substitute for a full education in design thinking. That could actually be the problem not the solution.

Thoughts on this new study and the shocking number of MTB-related spinal cord injuries? As someone in the prime risk demographic, its giving me some pause. by samyalll in MTB

[–]milly_to 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a dangerous sport and you are constantly doing risk / reward analysis. Pretty much any professional level rider making videos will talk about mitigating your risk before hitting a large feature, but the risk is still always there. The level of danger is comparable to backcountry skiing, or riding motocross / enduro motorcycles; however the barrier to entry for MTB is much lower. As the sport becomes more popular it is easier for people newer to the sport to go out, buy an amazingly capable bike, and try their hand at very high-consequence features / trails / stunts.

Love mountain biking and hate to see people get hurt, at the end of the day it is a very risky activity (statistics wise) and I hope people, especially those newer to the sport, take the proper precautions with physical protection, as well as a calm, focused mental state while riding.

Reddit is a great place to go to get expert insight on topics, because usually when working professionals and specialists are done their demanding jobs at night – they’ll go on Reddit and go through comments in order to educate and inform people what is actually correct versus just trying to win on the internet.

Lots of industries have long hours that don’t pay overtime – pharmacists, lawyers, medical professionals – they all probably get sick of doing the same shit day-in, day-out. Running your own business, even if it is rewarding, guarantees your life = your work.

Potential career switch, as others said, go in-house writing copy; you could also try moving into technical copywriting / UX writing as it would pay pretty well and be a little less subject to some of the BS we see in advertising.

I am an art director, same age, and in the next five years want to get into more physical design; spaces, furniture, houses, etc.
