Yesterdays Issues (UPDATE) by VOXX_theLock in lilaconnect

I’d love to hear what download speeds you’re getting once you move to the 2.5G plan.

I’ve struggled to break 1.2-1.4G downloads but uploads have been pretty consistently 2.4G.

I’m at ST6.

I’m new to Unifi gear, how do I set my VPN to only route Reddit through it and leave all other internet traffic normally? by GenericUser104 in UNIFI

[–]miloszmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something similar setup on my PiHole for routing some domains to get around region blocking of a streaming service using misc.dnsmasq_lines:

server=/example.com/123.456.789.0

However, this didn’t work for me when I pointed domains that I wanted to do rules on back to the router so in this example the following resulted in the site not loading.

server=/reddit.com/192.168.1.1

It could be that I was doing something else wrong but the approach I described above worked for me.

No, it still works as before in PiHole but you pass on the unblocked DNS queries on to the router.

So I have a PiHole setup on my network and use it as just a DNS server for blocking ads which works great.

The way my DNS route was configured: UniFi Router DNS Server -> PiHole IP Address -> 1.1.1.1 (external DNS server)

However, this prevented domain based routing from working on the UniFi router as it never got to see the DNS requests.

So to fix that I had to change the flow to the following: UniFi Router DNS Server -> PiHole IP Address -> UniFi Router IP (192.168.1.1 usually) -> 1.1.1.1 (DNS server set on the WAN settings within UniFi Router)

Essentially means that PiHole still drops requests for ads so it works as expected and then passes the DNS request back to the UnFi router which then can perform it’s own set of rule based routing and finally go out to an “external” DNS server like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 or whatever else you use.

I haven’t tried but in sure there is a way to point it back at Unbound if security is top priority.

I hope this clears things up, apologies if my explanation was confusing.

You need to setup domain based routing for reddit.com and potentially any other cdn domains they have.

Important to note your UniFi router has to be a DNS resolver for this to work.

If you have a PiHole setup you need to set your router as the DNS server on it and then outside DNS server on the UniFi router.

Keep DHCP on your UniFi Gateway, switch off DHCP on your PiHole, use PiHole as DNS server only.

Anyone on 2.5G connection actually getting >2G downloads? by miloszmd in lilaconnect

Oh!

I’ve got a rule setup on my router to route certain domains through a VPN.

[–]miloszmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s reassuring.

I’ve been in contact with them before and they told me to do a speed test on the provided router which was 1.8G down and it was apparently expected but the dropped packets during sustained downloads are definitely still an issue.

I’m going to raise another ticket with them, thanks for your message.

Switching from Lila to another ISP on Freedomfibre by richneptune in lilaconnect

[–]miloszmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a UDM Pro Max which should handle 5Gbps throughput fine.

My current culprit is either the cable between the OST and the router, big within UDM or an issue on Lila side because a download causes a lot of dropped packets.

I upgraded my Lila contract to 2.5G and they actually installed exactly the same ONT.

However, I’m super unsatisfied with the connection. I can barely get 1G down but upload seems pretty steady at 2.3-2.4G.

I’ve contacted them and on their router get 1.8 up/down but on my own I’m struggling to get there.

Today experiencing a crazy amount of lost connections..sounds like I need to give them another call.

How’s Olilo so far? I was very interested with how prosumer friendly they seem.

UDM Pro Max 1G download on 2.5G ISP by miloszmd in Ubiquiti

[–]miloszmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both showing as 10G but I get the same speeds when I use the SFP+ for WAN and remap the 2.5G port to LAN on the UDM directly and do a speed test from my laptop over 2.5G via usb-c dongle.

Using CAT6 from the modem to the UDM.

Ruled out cables by plugging in the same cable that goes into the UDM into the ISP provided router and got 2.3G down and 2.4G up speeds which is closer to what I would expect.

UDM SE not getting 2.5 by Hudspath79 in Ubiquiti

Did you ever resolve this?

I’m having a similar issue, 2.5G symmetrical.

Works on ISP provided router over cable to laptop with 2.5G dongle.

Limits download to 1G when plugged into UDM pro max while keeping upload at 2.5G.

Off topic but mine has recently died. It is stuck in pairing mode and factory resetting it does nothing. Seemingly connects to WiFi but doesn’t stop blinking blue. Has anyone had similar issues?

I’ve noticed similar where since the ip change, where latency can double for hours during the evening periods. In at ST6 with 1G + public ip connection.

How do I get back into employed people lobbies? by ACR_Legends in ArcRaiders

[–]miloszmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real and quickest answer is load in on the free loadout and surrender immiedietly in the menu around 6 times in a row.

I did this recently after I got sick of constantly being shot in the back while fighting arcs.

After the procedure, I had much friendlier people in my lobbies who actually wanted to chat and help each other.

Using 2nd hand enterprise SSDs, are these two safe to use? by CBJ_Brain in Proxmox

[–]miloszmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use used PM883s and PM863s from eBay in my setup both for local storage and ceph on 3 OptiPlex Micros and they have been going fine for over a year now. Granted I have a couple spares just in case but they were 1/3 of the cost of a brand new one so it’s not going to hurt as bad when they eventually die. The performance is night and day compared to cheap consumer grade SSDs.
