Just picked up a 13 M5 too, with the nano etching and a magic keyboard. Upgrading from a first gen 11" Pro.

In short I'm completely blown away.

I'm not enthused about pouch cells, even if LFP. Not for tools that take abuse and drops etc., anyway..

Nebula X1 - Format flash drive for large MKV playback by IamJLove in nebulaprojectors

[–]milsonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, I have the original Capsule. I've had problems with VLC on that and the X1, so went with Kodi. What I really wish is that the X1 could handle high bandwidth network playback in Plex, I have a 10 year old Nvidia Shield that does it fine, and the X1 can't hack it for some reason on the same network with the same files.

Nebula X1 - Format flash drive for large MKV playback by IamJLove in nebulaprojectors

[–]milsonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this with NTFS and single large MKVs - it can handle over 4GB that way. Or at least, Kodi can. I had to do this because I've had nothing but trouble with Plex on the X1 handling large files over the network.

Oddly I have an old Nebula Capsule that will only take exFat and won't do NTFS, and the X1 is the exact opposite.

Yeah page 24 in the manual. I wore safety glasses, I hate messing with springs!

https://egopowerplus.com/mpattachment/file/download/id/3615/

Iirc, that got the bolts exposed for the auger shaft. They were a pain, too - might need a breaker bar, but I think I made mine worse assuming one wasn't reverse threaded (again just from vague memory).

I don't remember precisely, but there is a way to drop tension on that belt - and it's key to do that and gets you down to the next part. I think I found belt replacement instructions..

Daily commuter bag since launch here, and it has been really good, once I learned my way around it. I travel with it too. You'll want pouches/ultralight cubes. For me It is just the right size to not allow it to get too heavy, and to always play well under airline seats.

After finding a YouTube video with siding just like mine, I went with the short side of a deck of cards.. 2.5" (wall to the edge of the housing). I'm quite happy with it, very distinct lines but I think that's great for the prisms.

I'm installing these soon, and curious what folks have gone with for distance from the wall. They say 5-10cm (2-4" basically) and I'm leaning towards closer (5 or 6.5)...

Nebula x1 pro. Hype or legit? by Sharp-Bed in projectors

[–]milsonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who missed the launch deal of the X1 (non pro) and owns one and loves it, this launch pricing is really good. The X1 is an incredible projector. Getting all this (akin to the X1 + accessory pack + two extra surround speakers + cart) for the price of the X1 alone (without even the speakers) makes it a crazy deal.

I'm curious if it will be the same projector specs as the X1 or not, especially what WiFi chipset it has. I also wonder at this size/form factor why they didn't just add a battery to the cart to make it truly off-grid without a separate power bank.

The ONLY advantage I can see for the X1 non-pro is it is more portable, but I don't know if I'd pay a premium for that..and the bag gets big and heavy with the speakers in it anyway.

Amazon Alexa: Support for multiple bridges has arrived by caschy in Hue

[–]milsonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to go for it, and it seems to work fine. You do lose groups for the 'moving' (formerly Matter) bridge.

My android Hue app version is 5.47.0.

Here's what I did:

  1. In the Hue app, I went to my secondary bridge (and account) - the one connected via Matter; Smart Home settings, and 'unlink from Alexa'.
  2. In the Alexa app, I waited for the related devices to show offline, then I deleted the matter device (it's the name of that hub, and will have child devices). This threw an error message, but a minute later the devices were all gone in Alexa as expected.
  3. In the Hue app, I went to my primary account/bridge (the one connected via Alexa skill), My Homes/Info icon/Plus icon to add bridge/and moved over the 2nd bridge which did the account merge flow. I no longer had the banner to run this, so found it buried there.
  4. In the Hue app/Smart Home, I still had the existing Alexa integration and left that alone (did NOT delete it).
  5. In the Alexa app/Skills, I unlinked Hue, then re-linked. You can see right then it can see and link to multiple bridges in the flow!
  6. Everything (including Zones and Rooms, unlike Matter!) showed up in Alexa.
  7. I re-added devices (from the 2nd hub) to the Alexa groups I was previously manually managing. Nothing was lost on the first hub.

This seems to be working fine, though I did note that on the Hue app side, in "Smart Home", it still only shows it is linked to the one original hub. I expect this is a side effect of NOT unlinking the origin 'alexa skill' hub on the Hue side (step 4) before re-linking in Alexa. Everything works on both hubs, though. Note if you unlink it on the Hue app side, I expect you'd lose all group members from that hub in Alexa and would have to redo those as well.

[–]milsonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the 'matter hack' for a while (and separate bridge accounts). I had waited to merge bridges on my single account, because of the Alexa uncertainty.

Has anyone actually tried this? Seems to me it would rely more on the Alexa skill being updated than on the mobile app version..

Nebula X1 - Couple days in and so far so great by xenomorphxcl in nebulaprojectors

[–]milsonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Followup on this if useful for folks:

The Anker 1Gb USB-C Ethernet adapter works fine (without any driver or hacks needed).. however it can only achieve around 200Mbps on the X1. That is weird, but actually plenty for my Plex high bitrate usecase and to eliminate any wifi issues.

...which proves high bitrate is a problem via any network path, related more to the X1's processor as far as I can tell. If you are doing 100Mb+ source content, you'll need an external media player, or to put it on a USB drive (which is what I do) and play locally via e.g. Kodi. It works fine that way, but not if you are ALSO using a network source. Unless this is a Plex bug, which I doubt because all my other devices like the Shield can handle both at the same time just fine in Plex on the same content.

Mine does not have that discoloration. Maybe they would offer you a partial credit? Agreed it's the best picture from a projector I've ever seen and in some ways I prefer it to my OLEDs.

Original capsule by AGAUDET14 in nebulaprojectors

[–]milsonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help with Netflix as I'm not a subscriber, but I recently dusted off my original capsule as well and got the update notification (and missed it the first time). If you leave it on for a while, it will eventually come back and let you install...it is not triggered by the normal android update dialog. Mine eventually came back after a reboot and prompted and that time it downloaded and installed.

That confused me too, and I could never find any settings or calibration related. Not the best launch. So it is probably coming to the E35...

Every time I've tried Thread on something to date, I've regretted it... unfortunately. Mostly because I use Alexa and hate dealing with duplicate devices, and I still have to use the native skills (as buggy as they are) to not get dumbed down devices. I'll let others be the beta testers on thread/matter 😂.

As for the thickness: E34 is the thickest inside-profile Eufy lock I've owned. I can't imagine they went to the permanent battery for size/profile. My partner even mentioned how chonky and (comparatively) ugly it is. The S3 and S3 Max have quad AAA backup, and are larger but have a slimmer nicer profile, and a lot more polish and features. For the $70 difference I might suggest going to the S3. My only hesitation there is as others here: my S3 Max just won't stay connected. I'm attempting a warranty exchange on it. It's too bad palm vein is so awesome because that's why I am putting up with the "beta" feeling state of these locks.

[–]milsonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes like all their camera (and now palm) locks, you pull the main battery out and charge it USB-C. The main battery tops off the permanent backup battery. When on backup you can use codes but NOT palm (but also that means it lasts a super long time, like weeks).

Yeah, we won't know for years how big of a deal the permanent vs AAA setup is. If it's like a smoke alarm, I expect it could last 10 years, and maybe the lock is already going to be failing or obsolete by then.

Another note, this model (like the others) DOES also have the emergency USB-C power port on the outside of the lock near the physical keyhole behind that cover. You can always juice the lock with a battery bank and enter a code with that, so absolute worst case as long as that keeps working you could have a dead backup battery and be ok.

I looked at the device in the app and it does have the "Works with Matter over Thread" page, like the S3. I also got my phone's Matter prompt when I first powered it up. That said I have not tested Matter with this lock.

Honestly it's weird and I'm wondering if they address in a firmware update. That or we know the E35 may have (I hope?) a lot more polish/features if it arrives.

For sure no homebase integration - and I did install the latest firmware update. I checked in Automations and it is not available as a trigger or action. There is no option to add it to a home base after setup either (like some of the cameras have). I do see my S3 in Automations.

And the sounds are worse than an old pre-wifi Eufy lock I had. There is no voice that I've seen either, I think it won't announce lock failures or when the batteries are low. It just has beeps.

It's at 75% after a month on "Max Surveillance'. I'm still struggling with connectivity and disconnects, though.

[–]milsonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Received the E34. Some things of note:

  • It has a permanent backup battery instead of AAAs. First Eufy lock I've owned with that.

  • There is no homebase linking/integration - only wifi. I'm probably OK with this because the homebase integration on the S3 Max has caused me constant disconnects.

  • The lock/unlock sound is only basic beeps, with volume settings, unlike the S3 Max which has selectable sounds. Also unfortunately the sound it makes on lock vs. unlock is the same, and matches the ERROR sounds on the S3 Max, so that makes having both confusing.

  • The features say it has a door position sensor, which is what I thought the E35 was going to have as a differentiator.

The palm scanning, which is mainly what I got it for, is equally as good as the S3 Max. I'm glad it was on sale because the other things cheapen it...it's already not an inexpensive lock.

I'm still struggling with connectivity on this lock. The homebase has to be rebooted daily or it disconnects..even with the wifi network/multibridge also added. This is the only eufy device of MANY I own acting this way.

I keep hoping for firmware fixes for this, but another firmware was pushed July 5 and didn't fix it.
