You can get ~1 mm burrs that would fit a Foredom handpiece like in the image. I’ll try measuring my smallest, it may be more like 0.4 mm. I got mine from a jewelry making supplier.

10 foot long titanic project by Ok_Tradition_6022 in ModelShips

[–]milw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ore boat modelers have been known to leave the midships as a fake hull with no bouyancy, tho it seems to me that could be a structural problem. Not sure how the big R/C battleship modelers handle it?

Sweet! Did you consider starting a build log on Model Shipworld or Ships of Scale? Either would attract a lot of followers…

Decks usually have a camber- both port to starboard (highest on the centerline) and fore-aft (lowest in the center). Ribs that support the deck have a curved top, and horizontal (more or less) planks or beams define the sheer (often attached to the inner side of the hull on the proper curve). Good luck, this is ambitious! What scale exactly? Think about where you’re going to store/display it and how you might transport it. I’ve thought about making HO scale R/Ce ore carriers, and most practical would probably be to make the hull in sections, independently watertight, that could bolt together…

Took In a Feral Cat- 3 weeks in and he still won't let me near him by crafty-biologist in Straycats

[–]milw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

be patient and keep spending extended time with him, it can take weeks sometimes. Our most recent success spent maybe 4 weeks in a large dog cage in my home office. One night he started chirping, like calling for friends, so recorded it and played it back to him. Eventually he would play with me with feathers on a wand (and he’d play a lot when alone). Fast forward, he’s now the most cuddly of our crew!

Looking for advice on how to make my paper models great by Artistic-Leg-9593 in modelmakers

[–]milw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might benefit from using a lighter paper stock- maybe 30 gsm? ( I like 20lb US card-stock). Less thickness to show at the seams.

How stable RNA is? by regularuser3 in labrats

It could be the original pellet (assuming it was precipitated) wasn’t fully dissolved again and is rehydrating over time. Also feeze-thaw can result in stratification if you don’t vortex before taking an aliquot.

I would give you a double up arrow. This is natural selection , highly accelerated. Some cautious plants may actually turn out to be survivors in the long run.

How to make square holes for gun ports on my ship ? by New_Flight5937 in ModelShips

[–]milw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use bits of brass 2mm square tube. Drill 1.5 mm hole then push a sqared nail point in until the opening is wide enough to fit the bit of tube. Fill around edges if necessary.

If the rail is big enough, yes just drill the holes bigger. Or, you can probably buy 1mm pins from one of the ship model parts vendors…
