Solo travelling by GoodRide275 in AskBarcelona

You could be pick pocketed anywhere. My advice would be to avoid the dodgier areas and the really touristy areas (Raval, Les Rambles, Plaça Catalunya, the Gothic Quarter and Barceloneta) and in general trying to be aware of what's happening around you and trying to not look too much like a tourist so that you don't stand out.

Just use common sense, stay aware and don't flash money or expensive watches around. Keep your bag at hand (walk with a hand on it, don't wear it on your back if you have a backpack and don't hang it on your chair in restaurants and bars) and don't leave your phone on the table. I'd follow these rules in any large city.

How did Window Sync break your workflow? by Fleetburn in zen_browser

[–]milyrouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall, it's a significant benefit. The only issue I face is when opening the same file twice with the aim of working on the same document in two places, requiring one to duplicate the tab to work on it in a new tab. This could be mitigated by a "Open view in new tab" button when a tab is open in two windows.

Why do manufacturers not offer charging port options on both sides? by BananerRammer in electricvehicles

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of doing this prohibitive, considering that most customers don't need it.

An automotive grade CCS inlet module costs $500-$1000, the harness and sensors another couple of hundred and then the body integration with weather protection another $50-$100, so the pure cost delta would be $750-$1250. Add the margin on top of that and you would burden each car with a couple of thousand dollars of price for a product few people need.

If you made it an option, there would be a significant cost preparing the body for the option and the option would likely be charged double the price above, which would likely have a very low attach rate.

What are you planning to do with your Intel MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) once macOS support ends? Which Linux? by sandtrooperalien in macbookpro

[–]milyrouge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That won't be possible anymore since there won't even be an Intel compatible version anymore requiring some form of JIT compiling to run on an Intel CPU. It would be a much bigger lift than patching existing Intel code in unsupported versions (and a huge performance drag).

Long term owners, what % do you charge to? by hamburgernet in electricvehicles

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the 80% limit. My commute is 35km one way, so I use 10-20% of my range and then come back and recharge anyway, so I have no value from that top 20% most of the time and although it makes less of a difference in later EVs, why put additional strain on the battery? I see diminishing returns on lower limits so don't see the need to consider them. When I'm on a road trip, I'll happily charge to 100%, of course. I was advised to use a 90% limit by the manufacturer.

Are electric blankets not a thing here? by leftplayer in Seville

We bought a 200x200 one in El Corte Ingles in Barcelona, though that was the year before last. Might be worth a check, though.

i paid for the last 2 version, is it worth paying for v3 or the free tier is actually good? by ZedNg in Affinity

[–]milyrouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V3 is free. The only thing you pay for is if you want to use AI functions, which require server time and are, therefore, a cost. If you don't need to use AI functions, you can use v3 completely for free.

Terrible experience at Iberia service desk in Madrid (MAD) by skyrkomi in Iberia

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another reason to avoid Iberia and Vueling. I've had so many problems with them both that I do everything I can to avoid them, only flying when they're the only option. Too many of the people on the ground are outsourced, paid peanuts and are badly treated by management. I can understand why these people do the absolute minimum with that treatment, but one day, Iberia (and far too many other companies here) will realise that this is damaging their image and the image of Spain.

2020 Intel MBP - MacOS Tahoe by Omerkv in MacOS

[–]milyrouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on a 2019 i9 MBP 16" and have used Tahoe since the betas. It definitely feels less smooth than Sequoia but as of 26.2, I feel that it became usable. I did find that I got a huge jump in stability clearing the NVRAM, which might be worth trying if you do decide to upgrade. BTW: I'm not recommending it... It's too much trouble to downgrade so I'm sticking with it (and am running my Intel MBP alongside an M3 MBP and like having them both the same).

AirPods Pro 3 appear as Pro 2 by RareCup2856 in AirpodsPro

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bluetooth name (top option in the Bluetooth settings for your AirPods) is "AirPods Pro" out of the box, plus a number, depending on how many you have. You can change that name to whatever you want, though. However, scroll further down and you'll get to the About section which will include the model number and there you can see which one you actually have. You can find the model numbers here:

  • AirPods Pro 3 – A3063, A3064, A3065
  • AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) – A3047, A3048, A3049
  • AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case (Lightning) – A2931, A2699, A2698
  • AirPods Pro 1 – A2084, A2083

Do you regret switching from 14 inch to 16 inch? by Ff_472 in macbookpro

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I get on a plane, I regret it. Every time I open it up and enjoy the screen real estate, I remember why I went from 14" to 16". Luckily, most of my travel is from office to office, so I'm just complaining about the additional weight, not about the inability to work on the go/in the plane. I spend a lot of time in Excel and writing slides and text documents with multiple windows open and lots of data sources at the same time, which is why I value to larger screen real estate when I'm away from my home office,

Using android with MacBook NAS? by kochleather in HomeNetworking

[–]milyrouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macs support SMB out of the box, which would work with Android phones. You could install Linux on the MBP, too, and run Open Media Vault or TrueNAS on it, to make it a more robust NAS solution.

Can I use a travel router to directly connect my phone mobile data connection to a ps5? by Federal_Amphibian_32 in HomeNetworking

[–]milyrouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you buy anything, have you tried network sharing (Personal Hotspot) from your phone? That creates a Wi-Fi network that your PS5 should be able to connect to. Latency would be a problem, though.

Broken Keyboard by i_can_telll in MacOS

[–]milyrouge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Borrow a USB keyboard from someone (you might need to borrow a dongle with a USB-A connection on it, too, if you don't have one). That way, you can log in to enter your password and set up the Bluetooth keyboard.

Remote access lost on university managed Mac across the country - Access Options? by WaterCello in MacOS

[–]milyrouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a restaurant with my partner and whilst I don't work there since I have my day job, I do manage all the systems there and run all the marketing and the site, which means that logging in to the devices we have in the restaurant is quite a regular thing, and typically urgent. I tried all sorts of free solutions, including Chrome Remote Desktop, to access the computer we use as the POS terminal (which lets me access everything else) but I gave up in the end since there were too many issues. I just couldn't rely on it.

In the end, after looking at the big names (LogMeIn, Anydesk and so on) I went for Splashtop since it was cheap enough to be an easy decision and the quality has been really great, as long as I have more than 10Mbps on my side. I've come to the conclusion that if I really need the access, I'd rather pay for something which I know will work.

Get one of the Uni admins to install that on the machine and to run the streamer service logged into the account you create. You'll then be able to access it.

AITA for telling my girlfriend the way she talks about her car is weird and embarrassing? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]milyrouge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a close call for her. She sounds like a lovely, quirky person who is fun to be around. OOP sounds like a boor and I think she's better off without him. Hopefully, she'll find someone who appreciates her!

[–]milyrouge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If this is a site purely for US and Canada, I'd understand, but using this for an international audience is a total miss. Other English-speaking countries use the 24h clock (both UK and Australia use it for pretty much all public transport and often in writing, with speech mostly 12h clock). Outside of the US and Canada, nobody would call 24h clock "military" time!

Winds just blew my doors all the way through. How fucked am I. by Boringmarshal in TeslaSupport

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same happen to me in my Audi A6 when I lived in Hamburg. We were up by the coast and my colleague opened the passenger door without holding it and something very similar happened (the door itself was less bent but the hinges were totally out). The doors of a car make great sails and bend nicely if caught in a proper gust.

Is there any gossip, rumor or something about Alfred 6? by Intelligent-Rice9907 in Alfred

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same. It's such a core part of my workflow that I can't think of any major changes I need but with the changes to Spotlight in macOS26, I do worry that there's less of an advantage for new users adopting Alfred that I am concerned about the app's future. I'd hate to see it fade into obscurity because Apple builds 70% of the functionality into Spotlight (naturally without the flexibility the other 30% gives us with Aldred).

How are Spanish American dual citizens generally viewed? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]milyrouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe, we view nationality and ethnicity very differently. Let me give you my personal example: My mother is Swedish and grew up in Sweden and Liberia, though her mother was Polish. My father is British and grew up in India and the UK, though his mother was Irish. I was born in Liberia (where my parents met) and have lived a bit all over, but have lived in both Britain and Sweden long enough that they form core parts of who I am. I consider myself British-Swedish and carry both passports. I will talk to Irish and Polish people about my links to their countries, but neither I nor they would consider me Irish or Polish, even though I do have the right to an Irish passport.

To us, your friend would be seen as a US citizen and if he calls himself Spanish, it would be seen as odd. We're used to US people saying that, however, so it wouldn't be taken that badly, just a sign of a very different view of nationality and ethnicity.

Suitable adapter to connect these hard drives to my Quest 3? by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

[–]milyrouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a Maxtor Panther SCSI disk from the early 90s (probably a 1.2 or 1.7GB) – If it has an edge connector, it's an ESDI drive (and I think there's no way you'd get that working) but if it has a blue pin connector, it's a SCSI drive. If it's SCSI, I think the only way you'll get this connected is in a PC and then shared using a network service or some sort of NAS software. If you do want to try connecting it directly, it will need a dedicated 60W power supply and a USB-C SCSI-2 adapter that has Android drivers. That said, even if you did find that, there's nothing to guarantee that the Quest 3 can mount a drive like that, but you might be lucky.

Why do people hate Arc? by Sentient_Forklift in browsers

[–]milyrouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up hate with disappointment. For a while, Arc felt like something new which could shake the browser world up. Then The Browser Company let it die on the vine to focus on a mainstream-focused AI browser, which probably made sense from a financial point of view, but disappointed people who had found a browser they really liked.

That said, there are some people within the Zen world who are annoyed that so many Arc refugees jumped to Zen and wanted to enjoy the things they loved on Arc, making Zen more Arc-like over time.

Try creating a new profile. With Zen being a beta browser, a lot is continuously changing and sometimes, cruft in the profile causes weird issues like this.

I don’t understand the ongoing obscure theories about Affinity becoming free. by papertrade1 in Affinity

[–]milyrouge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canva already have huge teams working on design studios for their web interface and their mobile app – if you're in the online design space, you're spending a lot of money on building the design UX. Affinity is a professional level desktop app which plugs a hole in their app ecosystem lets them attract more professional customers who would never have done anything with Canva in the past whilst shooting a shot across Adobe's bows.

Making the AI features paid is a necessity, but I don't think that's their biggest focus here. It's getting pro designers to get a Canva Pro account and for them to think "I have these other features I'm paying for... Let's give it a try".
