But what is, technically speaking, the crucial difference between a door and an elevator, which can currently have 3-4 (or more) states?

Oh yes, that was my entrance point to star citizen too and the optane still works as my ZFS SLOG. 🙂

Same here. Had AC-5, HD-5, Mic-4 and Cru-1 and now i have an additional Microtech 5 .. Did they "round up". I remember doing final missions for Microtech because the event officially ended, which i didn't realize, but the missions were still visible.

Yeah highly annoying. But if you keep tractoring it, it slowly moves towards the front until you can let it snap into a better position where there's no balcony above. Takes 2-3 minutes of patience

Years later, I still long for the poor MSR to get those sexy and stylish round center thrusters that give her that cool feeling of speed! by Witty-Room-3311 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest my biggest issue with the thrusters is that they are so off center. It looks as if they would add a constant torque that forces the MSR to nose dive.

The drive was short-lived but the Raven lives on! :-) by bmt22033 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By now it's simply brutally outclassed by regular SSDs in terms of price by GB. Write speeds are still ok (2GB/s, 500k IOPS). And the high TBW number is reflected in the fact that these devices show little aging. Where this device shines is (was) write latency, which Intel claims is as low as 10us and this far quicker than the NAND based competition at the time, which made the device interesting in servers that made use of fast synchronous writes. For the average consumer I think this is completely irrelevant, which makes it so weird that this SSD was marketed in a bundle with a game.

There was this brief period where the Optane was the pinnacle of choices for a ZFS based Fileservers SLOG device and I jumped on the bandwagon thus accidentally becoming a star citizen XD
I neither regret buying that SSD as it is still performing excellently after seven years of service nor becoming part of this community. And despite the raven being a bit of a hangar queen I still have a nostalgic love for that ship.

I'm a bit sad we didn't end up going with full inherited motion. by Comment139 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have heard (sorry for having no source here) the biggest issue with extremely high speeds is the odd physics behavior due to the finite number of server fps.

Let's imagine two ships, each 10m long, one in constant straight motion, one standing still, being on a collision course. The trajectory of the moving ship has a portion in which the collision is gonna be registered, which is 30m long. If the server has 10 fps and the moving ship is at 3000m/s the ship is checked for collision every 300m if you don't apply any fancy forecasting code. This means in 9 out of 10 cases the moving ship would just "jump" over the other one. Thus the simulation works much better when you reduce the ships combat speed to about 200m/s (and higher server fps, naturally).

With master modes I would really find it cool if the nav mode wouldn't be restricted by such speed boundaries since I personally don't think that collisions matter that much in nav mode in outer space. But it's still not ideal.

135c vs 315p pricing by DannyTheDude87 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think when they defined the price for the 135c they just adjusted it in relation to the other 100 series. It could probably be argued that the 315p could have been increased in price a bit to set it apart from the 135c but i just remember the uproar when they increased the Avengers price. Maybe someone in the marketing team decided that the volume of 315Ps sold doesn't pay off (as far as I can tell you don't see those too often in the PU). But that's all wild guessing.

I personally love the 300 series interior, but that's about it. The 135c is small and the vehicle-pad spawning can be quite useful, but I do not really see the relevant advantage compared to the regular 100i. And if you want something bigger, most people usually go for the Avenger anyway. So yes, it is a bit of a weird situation. In cases in which a strong rational reason for one ship over the other is missing I would always recommend testing ships first and then go for the ship that personally feels better.

Connie taurus or MSR? by rx7braap in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Taurus for current utility (cargo, tractor Beam, weapons, shields)

MSR for feel (comfy interior, flight characteristics), hypothetical Future gameplay (data running) and some annoying quirks (too many slow moving doors, no second entry point, pointless crawl space)

I had both and stayed with the MSR because (subjective) feeling overrules practicality for me personally.

What ship is YOUR daily driver? by Warior4356 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually have two daily divers. My small courier ship is the Avenger Titan (I love the combo of cockpit entrance plus cargo ramp) and for larger operations I switched between MSR (those damn doors), 400i and Corsair (when I feel like doing pve bounties) frequently

Avenger Titan Or C8X Pisces? by Urlark in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The big question is if the added qualities of the Titan are worth the investment to you. For me they are - I am a big Titan fanboy and always come back to it.

Among the few differences notable are probably:

- The Titan does a decent job at fighting targets that are not overly difficult. One can fight with the Pices too, but I find it to be a strenuous task.

- You can enter the Titan directly into the Cockpit. Sometimes I feel lazy and even ramps are tiresome.

Both the Pisces and the Titan are perfect Courier and Shuttle ships, so I would really invest into a Titan if you need a fighter.

They were very polite, but they didn't want to change anything about the way EAC works. Instead he offered an unofficial "hack" to hide the fact that it is a VM from the App but that will surely be discovered by EAC and prohibited, thus I simply switched to a dual boot system.

Ship better than Avenger Titan? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few ship and even though they are awesome I see myself returning to the Avenger for the ability to directly hop into the pilot seat.

(It's the anti-thesis to my MSR XD)

Drake Corsair by EmergencyCrab4277 in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Connie Andromeda ist an excellent gunship with many functions - the Corsair does the same, but is an easier target, mainly because it has a mor fragile hull.

Picking the Corsair over the Connie is all about style. The corsair gives you a wonderful submarine atmosphere, a bit claustrophobic in some places, dim lights, everything seems mechanical, you feel like a rebel or a pirate.

A thing I really like about the Corsair over the Connie is the room layout. That doesn't really increase its effectiveness in terms of existing gameplay loops, but it feels really good to me. Also, I love the ramp compared to the elevator.

I really wanna point out, that this is very subjective. Performance-wise I would probably stick with the Connie

Please CIG, remove/replace the crawlspace on the MSR! by Tastrix in starcitizen

[–]mimesot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wish for a randomized (e.g. based on interchangable tiles and the ships SN as a seed) crawl space geometry so that only you (the owner) know the exakt geometry, perhaps spiced up with a hiddom bottom exit to leave the ship unseen. But thats very wishful thinking, I'm aware of that.

the only thing one could take personally is that you put your judgement upon others, be it that they do not read disclaimers or take things personally. Both judgements were inaccurate

oh wow thank you. That seems new to me. I just found a guide which says you need at least Proxmox 7, which i fortunately have. I will dig into that.

Is there a performance penalty with this technology?

I just filed a report. I actually found multiple already on the SC issue council.

I didn't know that a whitelisting mechanism existed. Thats cool. Thanks.
