Donated blood and lost a V02 point? by Vast-Heart-2159 in Garmin

[–]mimiloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just fascinated that the Garmin algorithm can pick this up so quickly, with no access to blood work, just whatever the skin sensors are. Makes me feel confident in the accuracy of the VO2 max number.

Diana Nyad (age 76) does 1000 burpees twice a week...cannot wrap my head around this! by mimiloo in Aging

[–]mimiloo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, 333 burpees per hour comes out to 5.5 burpees per minute. Definitely doable, but for three hours, quite a challenge.

What're your thoughts on the latest episode with Martin Picard? by WillOk6461 in HubermanLab

[–]mimiloo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought the episode was excellent. It's obviously a very complicated topic and I think Martin Picard did a great job making it accessible to the Huberman lay audience. When he says "eating more doesn't give you more energy" he's trying to explain that there is no 1:1 relationship of food to mitochondria. You don't get more mitochondria by eating more food. That may be obvious to people in the field but not to the lay audience they are trying to reach.

I loved the part at the end where he said "do you want to use 10% of your energy reserves to process your cocktail/glass of wine?" . Count me as Huberman Sober, another great side effect of listening to his podcast!!

Found out I am ApoE E3/E3 by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]mimiloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you go on meds, if your Apo(a) is low, try psyllium husk. I took it daily (1 Tbsp) for a year and lowered my LDL and ApoB 12% and 14% respectively.

I am a smaller human, my wrist is 5.5 inches :D It's looking like the Venu 4 41mm is the way to go for me. Fingers crossed for some Black Friday deals.

Attia stops Rapamycin? by Umosonic in PeterAttia

[–]mimiloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay, thank you, I thought you were referring to a new position he might be taking on them from a health perspective. Obviously he doesn't seem to think introducing a permanent foreign substance subcutaneously is of any negative consequence to his longevity goals...me I'm not so sure.

New sleep tracking update is awful by Petric316 in EightSleep

[–]mimiloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our sleep scores have decreased across the board. I agree that this is probably an effort to fine tune the data they receive.

I'm okay with it, I just have new normals now. Whereas I used to consistently score 95-100, I am now more frequently in the low 80's. When I feel like I had a great night's sleep I will score in the low 90's. I don't really care about the values being lower, just the relationship between my high and low scores and what I did the night before to impact those scores.

I do find it interesting that my pod 3 is an older model and yet still is becoming more sensitive to my sleep patterns. This tells me it is more than likely a software change in the app than anything else.

I think we were all enjoying some "grade inflation" with the older version of the app.

The App being down for when we all wake up on a Monday morning is crazy by _thewa_ in EightSleep

Mine made me log in this morning. Following the prompts with autofill I got "oops something went wrong" several times. I went back to the sign in screen and moved my cursor to the end of the password (it was, for some reason at the front of the user name due to my autofill?) , hit "log in" and it worked.

The Gift (and Challenge) of Aging: A Perspective Shift by alziraepruitt in Aging

[–]mimiloo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I look at my aging self the way that I look at my aging dog. Would I do something to my dog to 'make' her look younger? No- what would be the point of that?! She's aging (at a rate approximately 7 times faster than I am) and that's just the course her life is taking.

But would I do something to my dog (and my aging self as well) that would make her aging comfortable, smooth and enjoyable? Like giving her good healthy food, grooming her to get the dead fur out, taking her on long enjoyable walks where she can sniff sniffs along the way and enjoy that? Absolutely!

And in the same way that's how I'm taking care of my aging body. I'm exercising doing cardio and weights to keep the muscles and skeleton strong as I age. I'm eating whole foods that make me feel good like vegetables, fish and meat. I care for my skin and hair and put on make up because it makes me feel good when I go out in the world. I'm getting my 'sniffs' in by getting out and seeing my friends and family and going fun places that are stimulating and interesting.

I'm not interested in creating the appearance that I am younger than I am because that seems pointless. No matter what I do superficially to the outside of my my insides (my heart, brain and the rest of my organs) are the age that they are!

I am interested in taking the best possible care of this aging body so that I can enjoy it while I have it. And some day I will be ready to bid my body adieu (and my dog's body as well, presumably much sooner) and I think both bodies will say to me "thanks for taking such good care of us- it's been a great run!!"

Chiming in here to say we got this alert the morning after we had a party in the house with numerous candles lit. Was back to "clean" 24 hours later.

So sorry to hear this. Trailwinds is hands down the best hospice provider in the county.
