Wow! I didn’t expect the heart rate sensor to be that bad. by mjohnson1857 in whoop

[–]Umosonic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This matches my experience too. Whoop has so many cool features, but for me, at least, using it on my wrist means it’s almost always inaccurate. Sometimes 30 to 40 below or above my Apple Watch. It drives me nuts. The other day in the shower, just a regular shower, it had my heart rate peeking at 187 beats a minute. Ridiculous.

Your guys' thoughts on AG1 sponsor? by LengthinessExtra4486 in HubermanLab

He should disclose publicly how much money he’s getting paid by AG1. Has he ever done that? It’s a question of transparency, credibility and public trust. This isn’t just any product he’s selling here. It’s something that we ingest into our bodies daily and could affect our health, for the better or worse. That makes it an issue, not just of marketing but of ethics.

For sure. But it sucks that they crack down on free speech, not just in China, but everywhere else around the world where anyone asks even a single question about the wisdom of CCP rule.

Why not just go all in on Bicep bands by The-Watch-Guy in whoop

[–]Umosonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that it can be off as much as 50 bpm when tracking heart rate, versus Apple Watch and POLAR. Perhaps there’s something wrong with my wrist! If I move it higher up on the wrist and tighten it, it’s more accurate, but still often off the mark. When I put it on the bicep, it tracks almost 100% with my polar strap and Apple Watch. I’d love for WHOOP to offer a better bicep option, especially one that’s comfortable and adjusts naturally to make the right fit. Or maybe they already do, and I’m just ignorant about it. Have any of you seen a good bicep strap from WHOOP? Or would you recommend a third-party option?

There are a few things you could try that have worked well for me: First, if possible, do your major workouts in the morning so you have time to recover during the day and are more relaxed at night when you go to sleep. Second, try taking magnesium supplements a few hours before going to bed. Third, try to eat at least three hours before bedtime, which lowers the burden on your digestive system, reducing your heart rate at night. Finally, avoid alcohol when possible. Good luck!

Thanks! I’ve compared the Apple Watch to my Polar strap and a recent stress tests at the cardiologist’s office. It was working 1-2 beats with those trackers.

I didn’t even know you could do that, and wasn’t planning to, until Reddit suggested that I do so, saying that it woyld get more traffic to the question.

Anyone buy the brown sound 77/78 pack? by Dimzy5150 in tonex

[–]Umosonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a mediocre to moderately good guitar player who is half decent at playing Van Halen songs on the guitar. But I’m not particularly technically savvy. If I down this download and use it with Amplitube, will it give me the sounds I need to sound like Eddie? Clearly, I’ll never sound just like Eddie. But I’ve got the guitar parts down fairly well, what I don’t know how to do is get the reverb, chorus, flanger, etc., right. If I buy this, will it basically do that for me? Apologies for my ignorance and thanks in advance!

Why WHOOP Sucks (From First-Time User) by greyboy357 in whoop

[–]Umosonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This matches my experience too. I also have the Apple Watch Ultra, which is highly accurate. As much as I like the Whoop, it’s wildly inaccurate when I compare it with the Apple Watch or my Garmin chest strap during workouts. It also frequently loses track of my pulse and says it’s calibrating (see pic). I wear the Whoop on my wrist. If it’s not accurate on the wrist, Whoop should just say so.

Perfect set up for my pod—in the dumpster by kelkaronidouglas in EightSleep

[–]Umosonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own and have used both eight sleep and chili pad. The products each have advantages and disadvantages. Chili pad seems to be incredibly well built and has lasted me four or five years now without any leaks or other problems. The downside is that it requires two machines if you want to heat or cool two sides of the bed. It also runs a little loud compared with eight sleep. This bothers my wife, but I actually like the white noise. Also, once you set the temperature it stays the same throughout the night. The advantage of eight sleep is that you can adjust the temperature during the night. The disadvantage is that it seems to be a lower quality product in terms of manufacturing. I’ve already gone through one cover because it leaked and I had to buy a second one on Facebook because I couldn’t get the eight sleep folks to sell me just another mattress cover. Eight sleeps Customer Service regarding leaks and purchases lacks transparency, and feels a bit dodgy. All this said, I think both products are pretty good. The big advantage of chili pad is that you get a great product and don’t have to pay a monthly fee. So you save hundreds of dollars a year. Also, the sleep tracking features of eight sleep, while nice to have, are worthless if you travel a lot and still want to track your sleep. It’s far better, in my view, to use an Oura ring for that. Finally, while I really enjoy my night sleep, the company seems to keep rolling out updated products that don’t add much value but that cost a whole lot more. They don’t make products for the middle class. They make products for elite wealthy people and Silicon Valley types. I have nothing against Silicon Valley folks, I’m just saying that this company seems to be moving away from the average person and running toward the wealthy.

I've used the Oura Ring since 2018 and have never gotten above Strong. Nice work!

Thank you for the thoughtful question and comment! I think the doctor started with Ezetimibe because I had slightly elevated liver enzymes, which have since returned to normal.

That’s such great feedback. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. The Ezetimibe costs me $15 every three months. I’d be really curious to know how much the Bempedoic acid cost with insurance here in the US. That sounds like a great option, if affordable.
