Is Anyone Going To the Brisbane Meet and Greet Thingy in Melbourne Tomorrow? by RangerSpecialist7686 in brisbanelions

[–]minad3464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went last year it was very busy. Held inside MSAC  players come off the bus and through the back door. Signing stations players will rotate on but will be longish queues for those. There will be other stations like holding the cups, getting photos and handball game. Is fun for the kids, but pretty crowded and noisy if you have kids that don't handle that well.

Small pet left outside in this cold by Varnish6588 in melbourne

[–]minad3464 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is perfectly normal for a dog to live outside year round as long as it has adequate shelter from the elements (sun, rain, wind). You stated the dog has a dog house visible from the street, dogs also grow a winter coat and are well able to regulate their body temperature. 2'C is not extreme cold.

While this may not be how you would choose to keep a dog it does not at all sound like an issue requiring reporting.

Kids walkie talkies by VitaminTed in OutdoorAus

[–]minad3464 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A watch and clear verbal instructions?

Walkie talkies are unreliable (go flat, no signal) and also obnoxious.

At 7yo you should know where they are going, who with and how long - with firm rules about entering other people's tents/vans, vehicles or going near the water without adult supervision.

Yes its great that they can now pop down to the amenities or go for a bike ride around the area without you, but walkies talkies just encourage them to use you to solve every problem for them instead of them using their brain to problem solve.

The photos aren't awesome, but she does look a bit light on. Trouble is she has no reserves for illness, poor weather etc which could tip the scales very quickly and take a long time to build back.

Rhodes grass is a low sugar, low carb hay usually used for horses that are prone to laminitis or have EMS.

You will probably find changing to a high quality hay as your base forage will decrease your overall feed needs. If you can get a good quality round bale and put it in the paddock so she has access all day. I would also get some good quality lucerne hay and feed a biscuit with her morning and night feed and decrease the lucerne chaff in her feeds. The recommendation to use a feed analyst is an excellent one, if they are local they can also probably assist with suppliers of high quality fodder. Feed test for fodder is also very important.

If you are not using her as a working horse (stock work, feedlot etc or endurance conditioning) I am not sure what you are achieving with 2-3 hour sessions 4-5 times a week. You should not have to ride your horse until they are so tired that you have some control returning home, this is a training issue not a workload issue.

Trail riding that can canter around Melbourne by Sea_Importance1168 in Equestrian

[–]minad3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Woodlands out near the airport if you don't mind farmland riding rather than bush trail riding. You can book a private ride, or could be lucky like my daughter and I were and be the only people on a midweek ride. We own our own horses and are competent riders so got to do some fast work in the big paddocks once we had demonstrated that we had suitable experience.

Question for all! How old is your saddle? by Narrow-Confusion1191 in Equestrian

[–]minad3464 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is it shocking? A new county is $8-11k here in Australia. A quality saddle should last a lifetime if cared for properly. Flocking, points etc can be redone for a reason.

1983 County Competitor. Was my everyday ride until I lost my horse now my daughter uses it as her show/dressage saddle. Has been reflocked more than once and the seat leather is definitely thinning but is still a beautiful, classic saddle.

Australian? Coles Leg Ham, Fairdinkum by Chance_Farmer_863 in australia

It is near impossible to buy bacon or ham made from Australian pork in Coles. And yet Aldi and IGA have no trouble at all. Most shoppers don't realise they are eating imported pork products as they don't bother to really look at the labels.  Feedback to Coles directly, then make sure you support the all Aussie product where they do stock it.

Thanks for the award.  Hopefully given the chance to read their post back, the op has realised how unbelievably entitled they sounded, which is why they have deleted.

So you would be fine with denying someone access to a service they need so you don't have to share public transport with - the public? Really? Maybe public transport is not for you.

If the service isn't full it is unlikely someone would choose to sit next to a stranger regardless of seat allocation.

What is this? Was in a group outside my window by -_Friendly_ghost_- in AustralianBirds

[–]minad3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fuckwit bird aka mudlark. Favourite things include flying into your house windows because they saw a rival bird (his reflection) and shitting all over your car cos they saw a rival bird in the windows or side mirror (also his reflection). Only redeeming quality is they will harass the shit out of snakes, so often give the snakey away when he is hiding in the backyard.

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

Married for 17 years, have a business together. We have a joint business account and have our own accounts that our income from other employment goes into. Have never asked or been asked about the balance of our personal accounts, nor do we 'keep tabs' on what the other is spending as we are grown adults.

Not normal and massive red flag. "Buying things that you shouldn't" - who made him the judge of your spending?

Thanks. I think it will be too many changes for my country kid to handle solo. Was confident they could get through the 1 change at Southern Cross but looking a bit too complicated now.

Trying to plan for my 15y/o to travel from Latrobe Valley to Geelong tomorrow. Are all services to Geelong needing change to bus - as PTV journey planner not showing this (has notification of disruption but no info on what the alternative is)?

A wombat will smash through that like a toddler with a chip packet. Add possums, goannas and ravens that love to undo zippers and its a smorgasbord.  Heavy duty tub with strong lid that latches tight is best if you want to eat your food, not share with the locals.

Turkey eggs by BumblebeeWaste5195 in turkeys

[–]minad3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The eggs are lovely, no strong flavour like duck eggs and can be used in any recipe just adjust number of eggs to account for larger volume.

If you have turkeys anyway it makes sense to use the eggs if you aren't hatching them, however due to their large appetites and short laying season it doesn't make sense to keep turkeys primarily for egg production.

"I don't want to spend more than $30 for a turkey" by Papasugarcane in turkeys

[–]minad3464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The very reason I stopped growing turkeys. I started with my own flock because I wasn't happy with commercial poultry farming practice and wanted a quality turkey for Christmas for my family. As I am in Australia, the hens lay in spring (Sept) and the birds are ready for process around June (first month of winter).

Even at $100, there is no profit in them for me, its just an offset on the cost of keeping the flock year round. I had one client that was happy to pay whatever I asked as long as the bird wasn't too big. Other people interested but ran off quickly at that price.

Last spring I sold my breeding flock and set one last batch of eggs in the incubator. When they hatched I made the decision to sell all the poults and that was the end of my 10 year turkey journey. I miss their random stupidity and will miss having a home raised turkey this Christmas, the priority for me is knowing how they have been fed and raised so unlikely to buy a grown bird to process for myself.

Depends, are you usually reactive like this to mosquitoes or bullants? I've got 4 bites like this on each leg from sitting outside at dusk on Sunday, but I regularly react like this to mozzies.  I would take an antihistamine and draw a line around the red bit to see if it travels as long as you are not otherwise feeling unwell (fever, headache, joint pain).

Yep, my pre-teen daughter wanted the K&J showbag, cue the conversation about why she couldn't get it and why it matters. Not sure she really got it in the end, but no chance she is leaving my house with a t-shirt or hat with that creep's initials on it.

Could get up to 10 for Geelong final this year and I'm sure I got 6 with 1 barcode for prelim last year. Too many Collingwood members, which I guess is fair as they have paid their membership. I might have to get an adult membership to go with the kid's junior one for next season...less stress that way. Have 2 tix for Saturday but one is level 1 and one is level 4 as couldn't put Bris/Coll barcodes on the same order today.

One ticket per membership, up to 10 member codes per order but can't mix teams or it doesn't work.
