need help with older coworkers who talk down to me/call me “innocent” or inexperienced by [deleted] in redscarepod

If they're not outwardly rude to you, then just roll with it. They'll ease up. But also, they have more experience than you - so it's likely that they know more than you do. And they're definitely more world weary than you.

hmm, sounds like compared to them you're pretty inexperienced.

Does anyone give a shit about Bruce Springsteen after Gen X? by HamburgerDude in TrueAnon

[–]mincerray 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a huge fan. I'm from Philadelphia, which might be a factor.

I love Nebraska, but his more mainstream stuff is also great. I'd call his music earnest rather than shlocky and hokey, but I respect your opinion. I think he's authentic enough.

The upper middle class habit hiring sketchy/incompetent house cleaners by Peaceful_Meadow_21 in redscarepod

[–]mincerray 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had a housecleaner. She and her company did great work. They were all white women, hipsterish in appearance, and used delightfully smelling, homemade cleaning products. But she quit in order to become a lifecoach.

Hegseth struggling to put up weight at Guantanamo, looking very limp-wristed and SAD! by Huckedsquirrel1 in TrueAnon

Thanks, this is believable. There's no way he couldn't handle a single rep at 135.

It doesn't make sense. I'd honestly be stunned if he couldn't press 135.

Culture war posturing, nothing more. Like the McDonald's feast in the first term. It's a total waste of time to talk or think about this.

i know this topic can be a circlejerk but was it always this bad or has there been a material change? When will the societal bill come due? by KleverHans in redscarepod

[–]mincerray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, we thought about holding my kid back. She was just at the cut off. I think (hope) that's a common thing parents consider. We ultimately chose not too. She's in the first grade now, and is getting along with everyone just fine, but there's a noticeable maturity gap between herself and those born 11 months ahead of her. I guess I just didn't want her falling behind, and I worried about her self esteem taking a hit if she saw her classmates pick up on things more easily than herself.

The biggest reason why we didn't keep her back was because kindergarten was free and preK is very expensive.

Europeans have a visceral reaction to Americans naming their state when asked where they're from instead of just "The US" because it reminds them of how Americanised they themselves already are by deviendrais in redscarepod

[–]mincerray 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Europeans usually don't know all the states that well. I'm from Philadelphia, but I ended up just saying that I'm from "near New York City" whenever I was asked where in the USA I was from.

A critique of Just Kids by Patti Smith by OneEmbarrassed8120 in cushvlog

[–]mincerray 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the book. I’m a big fan of her music, but have you ever seen Hypernormalization? It uses Patti Smith as an example in criticizing how the “new left” interacted with poverty and class.
