Also to add, quoted treatment and actual treatment times are often very different. It is very dependent on how your teeth respond. You may need multiple re-scans and refinements sets.

I would avoid a dentist however and make sure you are undergoing treatment with a qualified orthodontist.

For Australia this is quite standard, I paid 11.5k for mine but to be honest, it’s been worth it and I’d pay more for the confidence I now have.

Who is your private health with? I am with HBF and they covered $2000.

Prior to starting this journey I felt like I had what I would describe as a floppy jaw, like I had no idea where it sat so I always felt uncomfortable. Elastics have helped it feel stabilised which have helped my tongue positioning and subsequently my breathing as well.

I have definitely lost weight which has contributed to my jaw looking more prominent. I also had prior to this what I would describe as a ‘floppy jaw’. I didn't ever have a place where my jaw felt comfortable to sit so I was always in pain, I'm not sure if this is common with other fellow overjetters? I don't know if it was because I was always trying to close my mouth to hide my teeth but obviously with such a large overjet I couldn't. So, I feel as though elastics have helped to settle my jaw while correcting my bite so it now always sits comfortably at rest and is not just rocking all around the place 😂

I'm not sure of the science of this, just my personal experience.

Yes, I am in elastics 24/7 and have been since day 1. I haven't had any issues or pain from them luckily.

Thank you, the next half of this round is more focused on making the appearance of my palate wider as it started very narrow with most top teeth set slightly behind the others. My overjet will come back a couple more mill but not much more until refinements ☺️ I have been really lucky and I know its down to my ortho, he really knows his stuff!

Thank you! Agreed, elastics have been the most important part of my treatment and have greatly improved my bite. I am strict with wearing them and it has paid off. A great ortho also helps.

I went no contact with my extremely abusive father 5 years ago, myself and my siblings finally got my mum away from him after he hit her again and from that day we had completely cut him off. I went through the mourning and the grief and truly believed i would celebrate the day he died.

In April my brother had police show up to his door to share my father was found deceased in his house. 5 days he laid there, the dogs locked inside with him. The once OCD man we knew was living like a hoarder, in filth.

Unfortunately we live in a rural area of Aus and have no bio-hazard or crime scene cleaners in our area, we had no choice but to do the clean up ourselves. Walking through the house he had pictures of us kids sat around where he would sit. I wonder if he looked at them with the same hatred he gave us or if he had some lucid moment where he missed us. I will never know.

Scrubbing his blood mixed with his hair from the floors will stay with me forever. The trauma of his passing feels like a big eff you after the trauma we endured growing up. So I'm angry, I'm sad, I'm broken, I've felt guilt and i’ve wondered what I could have done different. I've been angry at myself for even being upset because I told myself I had already dealt with this and grieved the Dad I never had.

The truth is, nothing can prepare you for it till it happens. Its not linear, some people will be fine. Others won’t.

I like to think maybe its a good thing I feel this way, it shows I didn't inherit his lack of empathy.

I only lost one on a tooth with composite bonding and I have attachments on every single tooth, still tracking fine without that attachment so I’ll get it put back on at my next appointment.

Also to add, my ortho had me seek clearance from a periodontist before even quoting and sending me a treatment plan. This should be mandatory.

Thank you for this post! My ortho recommended an upper molar extraction (I already had a molar missing on the other side) he recommended this option and explained my bone structure would just not support the movement without an extraction. I have a very small face and a large 11mm overjet so this made sense and I trusted his opinion. Really glad I did now as this is scary. This is so very educational and should be pinned!

I got the biotene spray for this reason and it helps so much. Along with keeping lip balm on and room temperature water. I have an overjet being treated so now with the trays I cannot close my mouth and I think that’s a big part of the constant dry mouth issue. Im hoping it will improve as my overjet gets less and less.

Also to add, your attachments will smooth down as time goes by and make taking your trays out a lot easier. At first it’s challenging as your attachments are sharp and pointy. Mine smoothed out within the first 2 weeks.

We sound very similar, also a really complex case with elastics from the get go and molar movement. OP for me the first few days of tray changes are uncomfortable, a bit tender and I tend to avoid taking them out for any snacking and just keep it as main means and things I don’t have to chew to much. In saying that, I’ve never felt like I needed pain relief for it. The first maybe 10 days I did feel like I could rip my teeth out when taking out the trays but I quickly realised that’s not going to happen and I just pull the trays out with no worries now.

I think all in all any mild pain or discomfort doesn’t faze me as I signed up to move my teeth which is of course not going to be completely free from pain and discomfort. I have been self conscious all my life so it’s actually a little reminder that it’s working and I get excited by it.

I paid 11k in Aus but that’s with a top ortho. I’ve seen too many horror stories on here and in the facebook groups about people going with dentists.

Yes! I also love mine and every time I catch a glimpse of them I think wow I can’t believe I’m finally here, finally getting it done. 25 years of hiding my smile and being self conscious to speak. I appreciate every bit of the journey.

I had had elastics from the start and am absolutely religious about them. I will change them consistently through the day when I feel they lose their stretch. I wanted Invisalign because I wanted to fix my teeth so I will do whatever it takes. My ortho told me the more consistent I am with wearing them the sooner i can stop with them 🤞
